Re: Creating a LAN on GateWay Laptop?

Re: Creating a LAN on GateWay Laptop? I have a device, essentially like a camera, that needs a ethernet port and address, 10:0:0:0. I've created a port on W2000, and can successfully use it there. I did it years ago by assigning the device to a LAN. How do I do this in XP Pro? I tried something like Network Connections via the Control Panel, but it seems intent on having me deal with a printer or files. On my desktop with XP Pro, it looks like using the CP will get me to a LAN. Using Help gets me to two icons, one of which is for a LAN. However, this is not the machine I need to have the device. -- W. eWatson …

System Properties question: RAM
by Guest K. Stonefield- 12 replies
When I click Start > right-click My Computer > choose Properties, I see my computer's properties. My question is regarding the information at the bottom of the General tab. For the amount of RAM, is the amount shown the amount of RAM I have left or the amount installed? I ask because I thought it was the amount installed but a computer technician told me it's how much I have left. -- Thanks, K. In the field of stones...

Date Format Changes Back
by Guest ErnieNet- 7 replies

Recently, my Windows XP (SP2) date format keeps changing back to MM/dd/yy format after I set it to dddd, MMMM dd, yyyy format. I see it after a day or two in my Outlook (2003) calendar view. When I go back to Control Panel -> Regional Settings, etc. to change it back, everything is fine for an indeterminate amount of time (a few days or more), then it defaults back to the MM/dd/yy format. I usually keep the computer running continuously, so it's not related to rebooting, and I don't do the "sleep mode" thing. I only reboot when the computer isn't running optimally.

Sent box says emails a go, recipients say no
by Guest wonkywidget- 4 replies

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 with Outlook 2002 being used for email. When I try to send emails, they go to the sent box like they've been succesfully sent, but the people I'm sending them to say they never received the message. This happens with OE also; I even tried Thunderbird and got the same thing, which seems to indicate a Windows problem of some kind. Messages sent through the isp's webmail portal have no problems. This happens whether the message is addressed to one recipient or one hundred. I ran a virus scan on the hard drive and cleaned off several infections, maybe some unwanted modification was left behind that needs to be corrected? AVG was ins…

Since upgrading my laptop from 1GB to 2GB, I now sometimes receive the following error whenever I try to hibernate. Windows - System Error Insufficient system resources exists to complete the API. Once this error pops up in the system tray, hibernation option isn't available again until a system reboot. Seems to happen about 50% of the time when you try to hibernate. Any ideas? I'm thinking about downgrading the memory to 1.5GB. LOL -- Bill Gateway Celeron M 370 (1.5GHZ) MX6124 (laptop) w/2GB Windows XP Home SP2 (120GB HD) IntelĀ® 910GML (64MB shared)

Profile corrupted
by Guest Andy Baker- 6 replies

A friend of mine has a persistent problem with his XP machine in that every so often when booting up he gets an error message to the effect that windows is unable to load the default profile and is instead logging him on with a temporary profile. The error message also says a registry file it has tried to load is not in registry format. It then logs on with the default startup wallpaper and sets up default settings for Internet Explorer, Outlook Express etc We can get it going again by doing a system restore, and it seems to work for a few days, then the same thing happens again. If he leaves the PC on, it works fine, then at the weekend, it presumably …

Hidden LAN connection
by Guest BBran- 1 reply

Hello, I am using XPSP2, and DO NOT have any connection problems with my LAN that I use to connect to the Internet over DSL. However, some hidden LAN connections are keeping me from being able to see the status of an active LAN connection. I can see the status when I am in safe mode with networking, but not in full mode. I know I have some hidden LAN's because when I set up a new LAN to try to fix the problem I get a message something like "if I use the same DNS, etc., as the hidden LAN, and then reconnect it, I will have problems". I will not be reconnecting any hidden LAN's because I only have one card. I have deleted the old LAN's from my Netw…
