A Desktop.ini file has appeared in My Recent Documents folder, but I don't know its original location, so I can't return it there, and I'm warned of dire consequences if I try to delete it. Can somebody tell me where its belongs? I run XP Pro/SP3, and here are the contents of the stray Desktop.ini file: [.ShellClassInfo] InfoTip=@Shell32.dll,-12692 IconFile=%SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll IconIndex=-21 LocalizedResourceName=@shell32.dll,-12691 *TimDaniels*

VPN file access and Transfer issue
by Guest GNET_NY- 1 reply

Anyone know why a Winxp laptop would take an extremely long time to copy large image files over a VPN network link? i.e. broadband connection, 5 meg file, 15 minutes? the same thing happens when connecting to a VPN network outlook.pst file for mail. It could take up to 25 minutes to send and receive mail in outlook 2007. Every other request takes normal time. Even after the Mfgr. (Dell) replaced the processor and memory.

All of a sudden after always working before, my printer, which is not connected to my laptop, but our home pc, is not connected to my laptop. I can not find it using the add a printer wizard, and I no longer have the original printer install disc. I have tried numerous suggestions from other posts, and none have worked. My home pc printer is set up to share, the printer has a name, and my wireless connection is up and running. Any suggestions for getting my printer to work from my laptop?

When opening a file shortcut, excel opens a blank worksheet. The worksheet will eventually fill in if the resize button is clicked. Opening files from menu works but not from shortcut. I found a regedit procedure a while back that fixed it but after installing SP3 for XP it no longer works and I can't find the regedit again. Any help? Thanks

Hello all, Just ran my virus sweep and also use spysweeper here. Avast found Win 32 : Zbot-ALY [trj] in two places it seems : C: System Volume Information\restore and C:\documents and setting\myname\desktop XPAinstall . There's more info. per those two places but I don't know how to hijack this-or whatever-to leave it all here. Just wondering if someone can lead me to a good source ( thats free) to help clean this stuff totally off my computer. As of now, I only had the option -per avast- to put it in the virus chest , should I leave them there , delete them or what ? Thanks if you can help !

File Associations and User Profiles
by Guest Steve- 8 replies

I have an issue with file associations not being set for all users. I log in as local administrator and set Microsoft Document Imaging Veiwer to open ..tiff and .tif files. I check the box to always use this program to open this type of file. It works as it should for the local administrator. But when I log in as a different user that does not have admin privledges the file association does reflect the changes I made to use Microsoft Document Imaging viewer to open .tiff and .tif files. How can I set this so that all users on our computers will use the same program to open .tiff and .tif files? I feel like this is some sort of a permissions issue but I am …

Permissions Question.

I have several directories under my web root. These directories are tied to virtual dirs. All is well and there are no issues, however when I delete files within a certain directory (not withstanding that it is a virtual dir), the virtual dir display in mmc show a stop sign. AND, the dir security settings show that USERS has FC, no one else. If I then change the perms on this particular dir to inherit and prop al the way down, the stop sign disappears and the appropriate groups have the correct perms in the dialog. As suggested, there is no harm and everything seems to be fine. My question is, why do the permissions disappear and only the local US…

Internet Explorer 7
by Guest Tom- 20 replies

I have downloaded Internet Explorer 7,but when I open it, I get a screen asking me for required settings, for me to choose either to keep my current default search provider, or to let me select from a list of other search providers. When I pick the first option, and click "save your settings", it immediately comes up with"settings were not able to be saved successfully". I tried reloading IE 7, but get the same thing. This means I do not have a home page. I can use IE 7 normally after this, but it's driving me nuts, so any ideas?
