Re: XP - multiple installations with same licence?
by Guest James from Canberra- 0 replies

Re: XP - multiple installations with same licence? I was looking through my old postings and found this one. I may as well give an update. I never did install the second copy of XP. The video card was second hand, and the seller explained it was my problem -it worked OK under SP1. The $350 (second hand!) video capture card sat in its box waiting for new SP2 drivers. They never happened. Life moved on. I bought a USB video capture box. It works fine. I gave the capture card to a friend who uses Linux on the of-chance there are Linux drivers for it. It still leaved a bad taste in my mouth. That was a lot of money. "HeyBub" wrote: > Jam…

User questions?
by Guest Pheasant PluckerĀ®- 3 replies

Hi there, Has the behaviour of creating users when installing XP changed somewhere along the line? I mean *I think* when installing XP some time ago I used to setup without first creating a user - everything was under Administrator but the last few times when installing XP I was unable to proceed without first creating a user other than one called Administrator...or am I going mad? ;^) Secondly, and probably connected to the above I now have a selection of computers on my home network with various user names, Administrator, Admin, my own name etc. and it is getting more than a little confusing when I want to access a machine over the network having …

hello, As I look at the august patches I have come across patch for DST again (KB951072). Our company did DST way back in March 0f 2007 using (KB931836) with the outlook move tool and Exchange 2003 DST patch. Question. Do I have to apply this new DST patch (kb951072)?? Is there another exchange patch as well or am I good? Thank you for your Help! Koz

MP3 Players and Viruses
by Guest lindalbo- 9 replies

We have 2 MP3 players, an iRiver IFP 795, and a newly purchased Sansa Fuze. We use 2 different computers, both with Windows XP Pro, one has Norton Anti-virus, and one has BitDefender Anti-virus version 10. Neither one will give us an option to scan our MP3 players. After dealing with viruses and cleaning them up twice, we discovered that the viruses evidently were still lurking on the Sansa Fuze. After plugging it in again, I once again had the same viruses on my computer. We don't know what the source of the viruses was. But since the Fuze was still new enough, the store replaced it. Our question - since it seems that they are capable of becoming …

How long does it take you to boot XP?
by Guest Spiral- 8 replies

Little survey here--and if you have fast times, please mention your mobo and processor. I get 22 seconds on a six-year old Intel PBZ with a P4 3.0, Raid 0. A networked, but stripped down XP (minimal services except for virus). I think that's good but I'm sure newer machines will beat it easily... interested to hear yours--no cheating! by Guest Bob V- 4 replies

On my second internal HDD 'D:' I have 1 Folder (empty) that I can't Delete ~ "(folder) is not accessible. Access is denied." This folder (& file contents) was originally a straight drag & drop Copy using Windows Explorer. Also, I have five older Nero BackitUp files that I can't Delete ~ "Cannot delete (file name): Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not currently in use." These 5 Nero files were Backed Up on the same morning, but other previous & subsequent Back Ups have not been a problem. How can I Delete these old Folders/Files?

Hi everyone, Has anyone experienced any problems with remote desktop connection 6.1 client not working after installing XP SP3? Note 6.x was not installed before the upgrade. When I try to connect to any other machine, PC or server, I get the error "Remote Desktop Connection has encountered a problem and needs to close..." When i check the details it mentions the appname mstsc.exe (obviously) and the modname mstscax.dll. Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance. Darren

Prob'ly OT: Drive two monitors from laptop?
by Guest Ed from AZ- 3 replies

I don't really know where to go for this solution, so I thought I'd ask here first because I know most of you have dealt with just about everything!! I have an older Dell Latitude laptop (one external standard monitor port, no DVI). I know I can hook up one external monitor. Is there a cheap and easy way to hook up two flat screen monitors that will display the same thing? I've seen add-on boxes costing over $1400! WIll a simple splitter cable work? Ed

Remote desktop won't allow access
by Guest Didier_Toulouse- 6 replies

Hi all, I have three PC computers running XPP SP3. All of them have the same config in terms of remote desktop authorization. One of the three PCs, say "A", was part of a WS2003 network. I took that machine off this network and created a new one with "B" and "C", an ADSL box and a hub. I can connect from A to B and C via the remote Desktop application, but I cannot connect from B or C to A. I immediately get an error message saying that either the Administrator denied access (which is obviously not the case), or a network error occurred during connection. There are no messages in any system event logfiles. The three PCs have an account password. A…
