I think SP3 broke my OE
by Guest dwaing- 1 reply

After I installed SP3 on my SP Pro in my desktop my Outlook Express does not connect to the servers and I get an error message. Socket Error 10061 Error number 0x800CCC0E. I used the Microsoft chat but the technician could not help me. I googled the error and the suggestion was that two ports were closed; Port 25 and Port 110. Any suggestions? Earlier I installed SP3 on my laptop with no problem. -- dwaing If you can read you can learn anything for there are those who are smarter than you who can write, however not everyone who can write is smarter than you.

XP Explorer.exe will not start
by Guest smicale- 5 replies

I have a XP machine when it reboots the explorer.exe file will not run. If I go to task manager and browse to the file in the windows directory it is there, but if i try and run it I get the error message saying, "Windows cannot find 'C:\windows\explorer.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search." This system was hot with a virus, but I think I have removed them all. I also ran a registry cleaner and it found 187 errors and fixed that as well. I think there still is something wrong in the registry and that is why explorer will not run. Anyone have any id…

Backup missing.
by Guest Patrick- 9 replies

I need more help from the pros! I attempted to perform a Backup of my system. I went to Programs, selected Accessories, then System Tools and I couldn't find Backup. System Restore appeared along with other options, but the Backup option was missing? I just recently performed the latest Windows Update without any errors. How can System Restore be an option, and not have Backup as an option? Has this in someway been deleted? I didn't delete it... not knowingly, anyway! Do you have a suggestion? Your help will be greatly appreciated, needless to say. Thanks -- Patrick

I was working in a word document that I opened from an e-mail attachment. Instead of clicking "Save As" to save it, I clicked the disk icon in the upper left corner. Now I can't find the document. I've searched by date and key word, looked in all my document folders and hidden folders. Is there any way to find this document?

SP3
by Guest speedy_mike- 1 reply

I got a window saying SP3 was ready to install with warnings to close all programs and backup my system. Trouble is, it didn't say how to restart the install Wizard after the backup. Also, this took me by surprise and I have no idea what SP3 will do. Changes? Remove functionality? Enhance functionality? I went to a Windows page, http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=68c48dad-bc34-40be-8d85-6bb4f56f5110&displaylang=en, and couldn't really find any good material on what's actually being done. Does anyone have a good reference to SP3 and what it does? Thanks much, Mike

Random Reboots; Minidump says kmixer
by Guest Marla- 7 replies

We purchased 8 identical XP workstations around August last year and deployed them in September through November last year. Each machine is running identical software. We had 2 reboots in September, one in November, and 2 in February, on different machines. Then on June 12 we started having frequent random reboots. They seem hardware rather than software related because the machine doesn't log anything going down, only coming back up. The two error messages we are getting are: Error code 8086 with all parameters 0s or error code 100000d1 with parameters 28, 2, 0 and f7b51be7. Each minidump always refers to kmixer.sys. We are only using on-board audi…

by Guest Extremaluz- 2 replies

I've a legal copy of Windows XP with Service Pack 3. I recently bought a 320Gb Maxtor PATA HDD. My BIOS recognizes 320Gb, so Linux and Plan 9 Operating Systems, but for some extrange reason, Windows XP SP3, only 128Gb. I created EnableBigLba Key (It didn`t exist), DWORD, Value 1 in: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Parameters Rebooted the machine, but had no effect. When I open Administrative tools->Equipment Management->Disk Management I see always a 128Gb Disk instead the real, 320 Gb. The same with Partition Magic and other partitioning tools. My XP is in Spanish. First I installed XP, then upgraded to SP1, later …

Hi, I have two NICs in my Windows XP box, one wireless. I would like to have each attached to a different network and then specify traffic uses which NIC. For example, I want all SSH traffic traffic to go on NIC 1 and all web surfing traffic to go on NIC 2. Is there a way to do this in Windows XP? Thanks. Kevin
