I have a file on my XP PRO SP2 desktop that I cannot delete. The icon for the file has a washed-out look. When I try to delete the file I receive this message: "Cannot delete file: Cannot read from the source file or disk". The filename is: run[1].just.3.Ultra.Edition.3.3.6.0..Working.Fe. Any ideas on how to delete it? Thanks....

a while back I started having a major performance degradation when selecting all and copying files - like in a folder where there may be 3000 files, if I select all and then copy, I may have as much as a 30 second lag before I can go somewhere else and paste. Anyone have any idea why this is happening?

I have a firewire hard drive used for backup purposes (Norton Ghost). Although no programs appear to be using it I get a message saying "one or more programs is using this device . . " when I try to safely remove it by clicking on the icon in the system tray. Is there a program that will find out what is using the drive so we can stop it? --

VIRUS CREATED PROBLEMS
by Guest NHTXMN- 6 replies

I was infected with a virus. It has since been removed. However, my desktop now acts different. The start button bottom left no longer has programs or log off tabs. My computer no longer lists "C" drive. I now have a white box in the upper left of the desktop that appears to be a list of my network places. Although I am listed as the Administrator, I cannot access the properties of the desktop. I get a message that states that the administrator has restricted access. I can set up another user and assign it as administrator. However, my current user has lists and links(E-mail ) etc that I do not want to take the time to recreate. Is there a way to set up a …

Windows error with certain users
by Guest Information- 1 reply

I have a Windows Media Center machine with three users (plus the "Administrator") The "Administrator" user, reached only by Ctrl-Alt-Del at the login screen, seems to work fine. When we login to any of the users, we get the "Application Error - The instruction referenced at location could not be "read"" Obviously not verbatim, but this does not occur in the Administrator account. A virus was removed, which I believe the remnants result in the App Error. I can get into the registry through the Administrator, but cannot with the users. I believe there is a reference in the registry that, when removed, will clear up this error. The errors seem to …

by Guest swordfish1945- 1 reply

Used to see an icon/thumbnail in the Left Folder Details Pane when mouse hovers over a file. That feature has disappeared. There is a registry key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\* Details which contains the properties to display and I can alter the display by changing this but don't know the property name to show an icon/thumbnail preview. Anyone have the answer?

Windows Live meeting Won't Quit
by Guest PT- 4 replies

I recently used Windows Live Meting for a one-time use. Now, it keeps popping up, and shows up in my taskbar on the right. I right click and close it, but after a wakeup from standby it's back. I went into its Tools | Otions | General and unchecked the appropriate boxes. Any reason for this Dracula-like behavior?

I have an error message with a source of vcsexpress and these properties: "The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( vcsexpress ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: The data source '{42568f9e-354a-4c76-9916-3225d8c8e750}' specifies no supporting providers or a set that are not registered." I don't know what the significance this has. Can anyone enlighten me?

Steady State : No programs in the Start > All Programs
by Guest Jeryhen- 1 reply

I installed the Microsoft Steady State and tried to setup a restricted profile. I set some programs to be accessible to the profile, and blocked some of them . . . the programs that I allowed and blocked are all the programs exist in the All Programs when I login with the administrator's profile. When I login with the restricted profile, I didn't find any programs in the All Programs, except some "standard" programs provided by Windows, like IE, Outlook Express, etc. Even the previously "allowed" programs don't show up. Any comments? Please help . . . = JE =
