Hello,I have noticed that, trying to play videos from YouTube, quite a few will not play in IE6 but they will in Firefox3! As I prefer to use IE6,I am wondering why this is so,I have all the latest updates, and I suspect I need some Add-On but I have not been able to identify the cause of this,I even went to the MS Add-Ons page but I found nothing I could use. Any ideas appreciated! Thanks and regards from Vancouver,Canada Alberto My computer:Dell,Pentium4,1.35 Gb RAM,WinXP Home Edition, high speed internet connection

MCE 2005 Long time to boot
by Guest AT and HMB- 2 replies

One of my systems is taking ages to boot, while and identical system gives no problems. Is there any way I can get Windows Task Manager to show the the Applications that are running. All I can see are the processes. During the boot situation the Applications column is always blank. If I could see the Applications it would be so much easier to delete etc. Thanks. PS I use free AVG 8 and ZoneAlarm and these always seem to be slow. Incidentally, the Windows firewall system ALWAYS suggests I have neither virus checker nor firewall.

Bootvis 'Optimize System' Restart
by Guest bonapardo- 6 replies

Hi, I have had the following issue with my PC for about a year… During startup, Windows often takes a long time to leave the XP splash (or logo) screen before kicking in to the welcome screen. I’m not too bothered about slow load times in themselves – my PC is not the newest and it is to be expected. Sometimes however, the computer loads fine – the splash screen is up for a short period before Windows proper kicks in. It tends to go through periods of loading slowly, occasionally being okay if restarted – mostly not though. Around a year ago, I found that whenever the machine had loaded slowly, the frame rate when playing DirectX games was seriousl…

I managed to slipstream Net framework 1.1 and 2 (with updates). Only thing is, in add/remove programs it said 1.1 maybe corrupt. I thought installing Net framework 2 corrupted the 1.1 install. So, to test this, I removed the NF 2 files, and installed the 1.1 files. Same thing happened. Is there a trick to installing Net framework 1.1 or something?? Since it doesnt matter if I install it by itself or slipstream it with Net framework 2, or install it after I install XP (not slipstreamed) the install is still corrupt Or is it one of the 1.1 updates that screw the NF 1.1 install up??

Strange behavior in Windows XP 64-bit Edition
by Guest tbone- 5 replies

I just installed my favorite launcher program, TurboLaunch, on my new quad core system with Win XP 64-bit, and noticed some strange behavior. I tried to add the icon for Computer Management to it, but it could not see the executable file. I checked with Windows Explorer, and the file pointed to by the Start menu shortcut exists (compmgmt.msc), but TurboLaunch can't see it. After coming across this with another program, nVidia's RAID manager program, NvRaidMan.exe, I've come to think that 32-bit programs can't see certain files in C:\Windows\system32. I've temporarily worked around this by copying the files I want to run via TurboLaunch into another folder…

File Associations Question 1 2
by Guest JD- 25 replies

I receive Power Point docs as attachments via Outlook Express. I can only open them if I move them into Windows Explorer. I don't have the same problem with Word docs. When I try to open a Power Point doc I am told to create an association in Folder options. But it appears that the association is already there. Is there a way to enable the opening of Power Point presentations from within OE? Note: I have the Power Point reader, not the application itself. Thanks.

Image Screen Appears/Disappears
by Guest JLM808@charter.net- 4 replies

I am running Windows XP SP3 and IE7. When I click on an icon on a web page for the image to be enlarged, the page appears then disappears. I have tried disabling the popup blocker to see if that would resolve the issue but it didn't. An example of what I am talking about is to go to http://www.magellangps.com/. Under Products select Accessories. In the Select a Product Family dropdown select Magellan Maestro Series. You can use the default dropdown item in the second box. Click on any picture on the right side of the page. It is supposed to pop up an enlarged picture but in my case it don't. I had to rebuild my PC recently and since then I can't …

http://img394.imageshack.us/img394/3630/vistaiqbellcurvell2.jpg on the low left end we have the dumb vista users Notice that Frank, the vista newsgroup village idiot, is on the far left size, because he is a total moron of course with zero IQ. Spanky de monkey and bill yaniare are also on this far left side... Then we have the masses that are the XP users still, in the middle. This is true that the masses use XP. On the far right side we have the people who would never use vista because it's a stupid OS, rather they use a combination of XP, Linux and MACOS. Of course as expected not many people are that smart, the masses are left behind, so lets say…

Newbie Wireless Question
by Guest PT- 5 replies

I have a laptop which came with WinXP Home plus a Wireless card. I never used the wireless, since the computer has been exclusively at home. At some point in the past, I dimly recall doing something to remove the Wireless so its icon no longer appeared in the lower right hand corner of the screen. Now I plan to travel with the laptop and want to be able to access wireless networks on the road. I tried to reactivate and configure the wireless card. I need advice. Here's what I've done: I clicked start | settings | network connections | wireless connection I see a dialog box with a message that "Windows cannot configure this w…

Installing application issue
by Guest abnewallo- 2 replies

I have two applications that I am having an issue with during their installation. Only the user that they are installed under has access to use the application. If I try to install them under a user that does not have administrator privileges, and use the 'Run as Administrator' method then this user does not get access only the administrator-level user that was referenced. The software installs without a hitch; that is, it does not report any error or warnings. The icon does not appear on the desktop or under 'Start/All programs' for the non-administrator user. I have tried copying the icon after installing the application under an administrato…

Read Only Folder Problems
by Guest Brian Graham- 1 reply

I recently bot a laptop with Vista Home Premium and networked it to my desktop which runs XP. I can access all my files on the desktop from the laptop but when I try to save changes I have made I get an error message saying the file is "Read Only". Indeed when I use my Laptop to access the same files the folders containing them are marked "Read Only" but I can make changes to the files and save them. Can anyone suggest how I can (1) get my files unmarked "Read Only" and (2) make and save changes from my laptop?

toggle sound output device on the fly
by Guest Rahul- 0 replies

Is there a quick way (keyboard shortcut / icon click) to toggle my sound output between my speakers and USB headset? Currently I have to go through the tiresome procedure of : Right Click my sound Icon --> Sound Properties etc. Besides I need to restart whatever is playing. Can these settings be made to change in the middle of what is playing? eg. a Youtube video or a itunes song etc. -- Rahul
