I have a 2003 domain with Windows XP SP2 clients. Our end users have roaming profiles. We have several users who recieve the error of "Cannot update your roaming profile" when they log off. They all have proper permissions and no netlogon or computer browser events are occurring simultaneously. I have tried to rename the profile on the server to allow the PC to upload a fresh copy, but they still get the error. Here is an example of the two events: Event Type: Error Event Source: Userenv Event Category: None Event ID: 1509 Date: 7/3/2008 Time: 9:00:37 AM User: AAFCU\billh Computer: KJMORT3 Description: Windows cannot copy file C:\Documents an…

Sometimes. . . I can see the memory card from my HP printer and can access it through my desktop as a drive (Z:\). Other times it just disappears and even typing in the address, it can not be found. Sure would like to know how to keep this available. I have a desktop connected to a wireless router; both the computer and printer are connected via Ethernet cable. Thank you, Ed -- Ed H Dell Dimension 4550, WinXP Home SP2 60 Gig. HD, 512 DDR, Pentium IV 2.40 GHz.

I sporadically get this error “The instruction at "0x7c91b1fa" referenced memory at "0x00000010". The memory could not be "written" either at startup or a minute or so after log into my profile. Anybody have a clue as to what is causing this and a remedy to fix it. When the error comes up I usually have to reboot because most programs and computer are handicapped by it. Thanks

Moving files on your computer
by Guest Computer Questions- 9 replies

I have a real basic simplistic understanding of how files are saved/stored on your hard drive. I understand about how they are broken down and stored in clusters and how that information is written to the File Allocation Table so those files don't get over written by new files. I understand how a deleted file, even though it no longer shows up in any folder is still physically present on your harddrive until at some unknown point in time it gets over written. But I have been pondering something for a while and thought I'd ask the experts..... Lets say I have a file on my computer. Now I drag/drop that file from Folder A to Folder B. Is that files ph…

Can't boot. Trying recovery console. How long to 'examine disk'? 1 2
by Guest Bill Cook- 32 replies

Yesterday, my system blue-screened. I'm trying to at least see if I can run chkdsk or look at directories by running the recovery console. (Already tried safe mode and other boot possibilities). It's been displaying 'Examining 238473 MB Disk 0 at Id 0 on bus 0 on atapi...' for more than 12 hours now. I don't see the drive light flashing. I know that the drive is pretty big, but when do I give up and try something else? ...and what else do I try??

I am looking to create a repository for documents that can only be viewed, not amended, printed or removed from that location In short I want to place our agreed 'purchasing prices' which I need to remain confidential to my company, so if a person were to leave they cannot take the whole lot of agreements with them I am aware in Adobe you can stop somebody printing a document, but not removing it from the location Can you advise any software that you may think can help resolve this

Reinstalling XP Pro w/o the original CDs
by Guest nicnat- 12 replies
I have a home built desk top system which I'd like to upgrade as it has performed flawlessly but its only a single core CPU, not 2.x USB, relatively small HDs, etc. I originally bought XP Pro retail and installed it. Problem is now I don't have the disks any longer. I can determine the key via various utility programs and I've heard that one can use any XP installation CDs (assuming its the same version; Retail XP Pro in this case) and use the original product key to complete the install. Is that correct?? Where would I find XP Pro retail CDs to install on my new system without having to buy them again? Any suggestions?

Keyboard key reassignment?
by Guest Faerie_Knight- 3 replies
I have a very embarrassing question... Is it possible to reasign the keys one a keyboard? I spilled some water on it, and now some of the keys are mis-assigned. For example, here is me typing the numbers one through zero using the keys at the top of the keypad: 1,2,83,54,5,7,7,8,9,0 Yes, that was a single keypress in sequence. And no I have no idea why the number eight also showed up when I pressed three. My spacebar also got mis-assigned. Instead of space, it opens a search window now. I am doing all the spaces in this post using the on-screen keyboard accessibility program. Any constructive advice would be appreciated.

by Guest HankL- 2 replies

I received the following error when I attmepted to schedule a task in Win XP with SP2. while setting task information 0X80070005 acess is denied. I research Microsoft and came up with the following: In Run as: in the Schedule Task in the Task windows the computer name was put in automically and I put in a password. I never set a password under the Adminsitrators name because I did not want to do that each time I boot up the computer. I guess I am a little confused using the passwords. Where can I find my password or where can I set one up, so I can use the Schedule Tasks without continually running into this problem. Thank you in advance for your…

by Guest pinger- 11 replies

I’ve got several shortcut icons on my desktop for websites I frequent. Which I click on them I get a dropdown with the name of the site and the following script: “Windows can not find ‘http:://www.xxxxxx.com. Make sure you typed the name Correctly and then try again. To search for a file click the start button and then click search.” About a half second later, the web site opens without a problem, so the dropdown is bogus. It require manual closure, so is a nuisance” I ran a malware search and the system was clean. Any ideas how I make this pesty thing stop doing what it’s doing? Thanks, pinger

When analyze for volumes fragmentation, it is shown that I do not need to defragment C: volume: Free space: 45%, total fragmentation - 3%, File fragmentation - 6%. But when analyze 2nd volume(160GB), it show that I should defragment this volume: Total Fragmentation - 20%, File Fragmentation - 41%,though Free space - 97%. I'm running Windows XP SP2 on my computer and I've had a few problems with Trojans recently which I think I've got rid of using Norton. However whenever I start my computer now I get the following error message: RUNDLL Error loading c:\WINDOWS\System 32\qxxtnws.dll The speciified module could not be found Does anyone know what this message means? Although it doesn't appear to be doing anything at the moment I'd like to get rid of it so it doesn't cause any problems later. The only problem I've had is explorer needing to close? Do you think the error message relates to Internet Explorer? Thanks

Removing Bluetooth
by Guest Ed Wood- 4 replies

I am running XP Pro SP2. I have two different Motorola Cell phones that I want to dl pictures to my computer. One is a Motorola Razr V3. The other is a Motorola V-551. Both have Bluetooth capability. I have installed and successfully downloaded data from the Razr using a Bluetooth connection. Evidently, the Bluetooth software for the Razr phone is not backward compatible with the earlier V-551 phone. I installed the Motorola Bluetooth software that was provided with the V-551, to access that phone (without success, I might add). The V-551 software installed a Bluetooth link and icon in the control panel. I think that that is conflicting with the Blueto…

mutiple windows activations from same location.
by Guest ColOneill- 4 replies

I recently purchased several (35) pc's at a government surplus wharehouse. The machines all have valid win XP pro stickers. Since they are ex government pc's the harddrives have been stripped out of them. I was using the "new" pc to replace older ones here at work, and everything was fine till a week ago. I had reinstalled and activated about 16 machines with no problems, but now I am forced to call microsoft every time I activate one. They are valid codes, but I think microsoft has become suspicious of so many activations from the same IP. If the code is valid why should they care? Is there any way to prove to them that these are legit reinstalls without …

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum, but I've noticed that the IIS Public forum users don't seem to get answers. Anyway, I have XP Pro (had SP2 on it), with IIS 6. My web site used to work fine, but since upgrading to SP3 last evening, users cannot even connect to me. They get all kinds of "Server not responding", "Timeouts" and several other messages.
