Missing Desktop, Icons, Start Menu
by Guest Cinna- 1 reply

Hi...I am in need of someone's help before my husband tosses the computer otta the window. This past week we decided enough is enough and got high speed internet. My husband's computer is pretty old and has not had very many if any updates ran so he decided it was time. After doing updates and restarting the computer he was left staring at his wallpaper. Everything on the desktop was gone. He is working with it now through task manager and has ran explorer.exe and found system restore and backed it up to a few weeks ago. Still nothing. The computer will not even let him get online so we cannot go to the sites to download what I have found so far on the web…

Graphics card/monitor issues
by Guest Monkah- 1 reply

Hello everyone, My family owns a business, and my mom is having trouble with one of the computers she uses to keep information on file. I backed up the files she wanted to keep, and decided it was time to reformat the PC. I reformatted the computer, and now I'm having a big problem with the graphics card and/or monitor. The monitor kept flashing black each time I would try to do anything (click on a web link, close a window, etc.), and I decided to try to update the graphics card drivers. I restarted the computer, and I got the following error upon restarting: STOP: 0x100000EA THREAD_STUCK_IN_DEVICE_DRIVER_M I had set up a restore point before attempi…

Flash and Packet writing CD
by Guest Bob Day- 2 replies

Using Office 07 enterprise on standalone Dell Latitude D820 laptop… I had to reformat and reinstall the hard disk (not fun); I have some quesitons on things I noticed: 1) I have used Nero InCD to read/write CDs the same as floppies (i.e. Packet writing). I was surprised when I put the CD in a computer without InCD on it that the computer could read the CD, although I don't think it could write to it (not sure here). Has the lastest Windows XP incorporated Packet writing so a program like InCD is no longer needed? 2) Before I went to the Adobe website to download flash, flash was installed on the computer (an older version maybe from the older Windo…

DVI and VGA
by Guest Bob Day- 2 replies

Using Windows XP (latest updates), Dell Latitude D820 and View Sonic monitor… I have the VGA on the monitor connected to a KVM switch to view two different computers, this has always worked fine. The Dell laptop docking station has a DVI (in addition to VGA) and the View Sonic monitor has a DVI (in addition to a VGA). So, I thought if I hooked up the DVI, and left the VGA hooked up, it would simply be a matter of using the monitor's on screen input selector to choose Analog (vga) or Digital (dvi). However, when ever I choose DVI, it displays analog, as if there is nothing coming across on the DVI cable. Do you have to do something on the computer to …

I am having a problem with my mouse locking up.I downloaded sp3 and that was a disaster. Couldn't get past the blue screen so I called a guy who got me back to windows. Prior to d/l sp3, I d/l .Net framework 2.0 because the manufactuer of the game I was playing said that could be the problem. That just caused a loop to start that I had to keep canceling until it stopped. I removed that and the loop stopped but my mouse still freezes. I tried putting in the driver resource cd to see if I could get a diagnogstic. That came back with Batch File F:/ MSDOS batch missing. (not sure of exact message). Any suggestions on how to remedy this problem? If I decide to …

Hi: First, I'm NOT familiar with Windows Media Player to begin with. Now, however I am inclined to listen Radio Station, particularly 'Country' that plays 'oldie,' like '70 to up-today. My question is; (1) How to access Radio Station which plays 'oldie-Country Music?' (2) After that, I want to copy any songs that I can listen any time at later days. How to do that? Is there any restriction to make song/Radio copied? Thanks any help on this regard in advance.

It used to be. After that screen it says loading personal preferences, the alignment of the screen is perfect. What could be happening to my screen alignment at boot time?
