VERCLSID.EXE and Amazon.com
by Guest Toni- 0 replies

Since installing security update 908531 on Win XP Pro a few days ago from windows update, I'm seeing some strange behavior. This update installs a new program, VERCLSID.EXE I've got SysInternals Process Explorer running, and occasionally I see VERCLSID.EXE start, then stop. It lasts about a second. The behavior is consistent when I visit Amazon.com. After being on a page for more than a minute, if I click a link on Amazon.com, as the new Amazon page loads, VERCLSID.EXE starts then stops. And, I'm not sure, but it appears that VERCLSID.EXE runs as a System process (despite the fact that I'm logged in as Administrator). I've read KB918165. I don't have HP's h…

Windows Explorer Folders Scroll Slowly
by Guest Thomas M.- 0 replies

XP SP3 My computer has recently developed a problem where the folder list in Windows Explorer scrolls extremely slowly. Only two things have recently changed on my computer. 1) I replaced one of my two monitors with a larger model (I have the correct driver installed), and 2) I installed SP3. I seem to remember that there is an option somewhere that turns off scrolling, but I can't seem to find that option. I already cleared the "Scroll Programs" option in the Start Menu properties, and indeed this is not a problem with the Start Menu--it only happens in Windows Explorer. How can I change the behavior in Windows Explorer so that I don't need to e…

Password Protect box shows a missing text field
by Guest 357mag- 0 replies

Sometimes when I wake up my computer from Standby and I'm looking at the Password Protect box, the text box that you enter your password in is completely missing. I mean the box is gone. I can still type in characters to enter my password to log on, but for some strange reason, the text box itself does not show. At first I thought it was due to an outdated video driver, but I just updated the driver and it still happens on occasion. Anyone know why this could be happening?

Hi there my question is. Can you use the files and settings transfer wizard to transfer files from one disk too another disk on the same computer. I had a system with a 40GB drive on it. I added a 500Gb dive. I made the 500gb drive the master and installed xp home on it then I made the 40gb drive the slave. i would like to transfer all the files, settings and programs from the 40gb drive to the 500gb drive. Will the wizard do it, or do I have to use another methode. -- Thomas G.

SMTP not sending
by Guest Mel- 4 replies

Hi. Email suddenly will not send through one of my provider's SMTP (AT&T - old Bellsouth). I know this sounds like an Outlook issue, but I have other programs that send email and they also cannot send. Outlook can receive from that provider, but not send. Luckily I have another provider on this machine (Earthlink), which uses a different SMTP, and it works fine. I can send using it. So it seems just the Bellsouth SMTP has issues, which seem to be outside Outlook's fault? Before I speak to Bellsouth about this, are there anythings I can check first in Windows or information about this elsewhere? I appreciate any help. WinXP -Mel

Re-installing XP Pro....
by Guest smackallica- 4 replies

Two weeks ago my computer froze up. I powered down and repowered up. As Windows was loading it stopped and an error stated: Floppy diskette error: Press F1 to try again, F2 to reboot. This error pops up every time anything is tried. I have tried to repair and re install with my CD. After the long wait of Windows completely reinstalling, that error pops up. I just bought and replaced my hard drive thinking that may be the problem. After installing Windows XP Professional on my new hard drive that error popped up again. Is there anything anyone can offer that may help? Also, I do not have a floppy drive. Thank you.

by Guest denmarfl- 5 replies

This question is not related to XP.....but I am hoping someone has an answer. For the past 2 days I have been trying to Signin to the Vista Newsgroup. When I click QUESTION, it correctly takes me to the Signin Window, after I enter the ID\Password it does back to the Newsgroup, but when I click QUESTION, it simply comes back to the Newsgroup and I see the SIGNIN tab.... So I am unable to get to the window allowing me to enter a question. Obviously yhere is nothing wrong with my ID\Password...I am now entering this question. Anyone know of any problems with the Microsoft Vista Newsgroup? I see new questions entered yesterday and today so some users ar…

Hi My XP machinces are running slower then usual. I intalled XP 6 months ago and now users are complaining that their machines are working slower then normal. I reinstalled the Win XP on one of the computer and this computer is working normally. We have not made any changes on our network and we have not installed any new software on the client computers. These machines are completely clean. Has any one encoutered this kind of problem? Does XP become slower over the time? Do we need to reinstall it after some time? Secondly, Can anyone recommend good registry cleaner and system cleaner software to tune up my xp machine? Thanks in advance

Cannot Logon to other users of the same computer
by Guest Jingshan- 0 replies

Hi, I notice that I seems to have a similar problem as encountered by one of the users, Carl. All along, I haven't had any problem logging on to other users in the same computer, until recently. I tried to logon onto other users, I keep receiving this error message 'Windows are unable to load your profile. Pls check that you are connected to the network. Add. details: insufficient resources exist to complete the requested service'. What does the above error means? Is there any other way to resolve this issue rather then create a new user and copy the files from the old users to the new user?

wingrub

I'm having trouble with wingrub. The problem is that it won't load menu.lst Here is setup: SATA drive= NTFS Windows on C: IDE drive= Solaris with its grub on MBR the problem might be caused by strange thing that after loading windows, SATA drive becomes (hd1,0) but in grub its (hd0,0) so grub is trying to load menu.lst from solaris, but I cannot change that in windows.. if I try: grubinstall -d (hd0,0) -1 c:/boot/stage1 -2 c:/boot/stage2 -m c:/boot/ menu.lst it says that hd0 is not NTFS or FAT (because its Solaris) please help me solve this..
