I have about 50 machines I am downloading the 3.5 framework on to. Half the machines work fine, the others give me an error: "The Windows Installer service is unavailable. Another application may be running setup. Finish any instaltions in progress, or restart yur computer, and then re-run setup." I have shut down the computer, installed windows services pack 3, followed the instructions to reinstall the windows installer, checked active applications running... and still I get the error. Please help. Thanks, Joel Pettigrew

by Guest Bill Again- 7 replies

My MP3 player is not recognised by my PC when I plug it into a USB port. My PC recognises and operates all the other USB devices that I use. When I plug in the MP3 player a helpful window pops up called "MTP Media Player" that asks me what I want Windows to do. Despite sounding so helpful, the window is empty of suggestions. In System Properties, Hardware, Device Manager, an MP3 player is shown. It shows up with a new entry, "Windows Portable Devices - MTP Device". It alleges that everything is working. But it is not. There is nothing wrong with the MP3 player, it works fine on my laptop. On the laptop Device Manager window it appears under "Storage …

by Guest sheds_1- 1 reply

I am currently running XP home edition sp2 but when I download certain programs like IE 8, ITunes, etc...the software program terminates installation and tells me that the program is not compatible with my OS. Some of these programs report that I am using Windows 2000, which I am not. When I check my OS version on my computer it says I am using XP which was installed when I bought the computer. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? How do I fix it? Thank-you!

I have a Compaq Presario sr2044nx PC with XP MCE2005, Service pack 2, 2.8ghz Pentium D, 2GB ram, 180GB HDD, 90 GB free, that turns itself on while it's supposed to be hibernating. Some days it stays off, sometimes it is only off for an hour. I have to turn off the power strip if I want to be certain it will stay off. The Microsoft hibernate patch KB909095 is installed, and automatic updates are turned on. In Device Manager, there are four devices - network card, modem, keyboard, mouse - with a "power management" tab which have a checkbox for "allow this device to bring computer out of standby," which are all unchecked.
