Roaming Profile still tries to load off network
by Guest JN- 10 replies

Even when I am not on the network my roaming profile tries to load on my laptop when I logon. I get the error: "Windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on with your local profile. Changes to the profile will not be copied to the server when you logoff. Possible causes of this error include network problems or insufficient security rights. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator. " XP can't seem to detect that the computer is at some other location and tries to load the roaming profile. Is there a way to stop it from trying to load the profile when not on the domain?

OK, my computer is giving me warning signs that its about to croak....its running XP, about 3 years old. Compaq. What happens is when its turned on, you'll get the Compaq screen, and nothing else. You have to wait until it goes into standby mode (2 mins) then move the mouse and it'll bring you to the Windows startup screen and everythings OK from there. My question is how can I take EVERYTHING thats on the HD and dupe it onto a new HD? Including the OS? Any help would surely be appriciated! Jay

Without knowing what it "fixed," it's hard to know. For all you know, you have lucked out and haven't done any real damage yet. Just because registry "fixing" programs aren't beneficial doesn't mean they always hose up systems. And I don't believe Free Registry Fix is a rogue program (although it is certainl…

too many user accounts
by Guest Millie- 4 replies

Hi I've just spotted that another user account has appeared in my name in C:Documents and Settings. I didn't create this new account (I don't think). The one I created is labelled with just my first name. The second mysterious one has my first and last name listed. It doesn't appear in User Accounts in Control Panel. Does anyone know why this might have appeared and is it safe to delete it? -- Millie

Wscript SP3 problem
by Guest WmWWallick- 2 replies

Have a script that has been in service for a year or so. XP Pro. Was SP2. The script saves a file name and later uses it. To save the name I select the file, go to file-rename and hit control c, which copies to the clipboard. After installing SP3, this no longer works. Nothing is copied to the clip.

Script for logging onto network drive
by Guest Peter A- 1 reply

My home network includes a LaCie 500GB ethernet drive. All the computers successfully map the drive at boot, but the first time after a boot that any user tries to access the drive, they are required to enter the username and password for the drive. I am hoping that I can write a script to run at boot that will automatically perform this task. Is this possible? -- Peter Aitken Author, MS Word for Medical and Technical Writers http://www.tech-word.com

How to set "The following user" as the default option in Run As di
by Guest yaugenka- 0 replies
Hi, To start a program with other user credentials you can right click on the program file or its shortcut and choose Run As command. You will be prompted with a dialog box that has two options: Current user and The following user. By default the first option is set. The fact is that in almost all cases you run this dialog to launch a program or tool with other user credentials. So you first have to click "The following user" option, and only after that you will be able enter the creds. Above all when you choose the second option the System administrator name will be chosen by default. Is it possible to set "The following user" as the default option…
