Back up
by Guest Simone Marchi- 5 replies

I've read that in XP Home Edition the back up utility isn't installed by default but I can install it from the CD. The problem is XP Home Edition was preinstalled on my PC and I have only the recovery CDs which I browsed but I didn't find Ntbackup.msi. I also checked out the System Tools in the Accessories menu with no success so I think the back up utility wasn't preinstalled togheter with the OS. How can I install Ntbackup.msi on my PC? Thank you in advance -- Simone Marchi

Internet Explorer weirdness
by Guest Daave- 0 replies

I've been working on a friend's laptop. It had IE7 and SP2. Normally, I would downgrade from IE7 to IE6 before upgrading to SP3 (and *then* upgrade back to IE7 in order to have more flexibility -- once you are at SP3, it's impossible to go from IE7 back to IE6 unless you go back to SP2 first!). Okay, this is what happened: BTW, I used a disc burned from the .iso found here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=2FCDE6CE-B5FB-4488-8C50-FE22559D164E&displaylang=en After SP3 was successfully applied, a new icon appeared on the desktop. Previously there had been only a "poor-man's IE shortcut icon" on the desktop (the kind with the …

default settings for new users / new accounts ?
by Guest ProteanThread- 1 reply

How can add, delete, change, or edit settings for default user or new accounts *PRIOR* to the person logging in? Everytime I create a new non-admin user account, I have certain applications attempt to run (even though they are NOT in HKLM/Run or Start>Startup for all users but wind up in the current users settings), somehow these apps are running in the current users settings and not per user (does this make sense)? These are apps that I only want those with administrator privlages to run and not anyone else! -- Woodzy http://www.rtdos.com

by Guest Don- 0 replies

I have a large (1TB) SATA drive that I've installed in an ICY Dock external enclosure with a USB connection. The device is recognized and installed in my XPSP3 system under VMWARE but NOT in my workaday system. The New Found Harware wizard just grinds away searching for a driver but to no avail. Since this wasn't a problem under the virtual system I have no idea how to proceed. Any helpful ideas? Thanks in advance. Don

Hi, Friends, I am sorry to put this post here. But I really need help urgently, and I think lots of your guys must be good at Window 98 too. I am still using Window 98 for my Pen III desktop. Yesterday I misktakenly deleted the system files ( I am not good at computer). These deleted files are in the recycle bin because I did not empty the recycle bin. When I restarted the computer, the only information in the screen is :"invalid system disk. Please replace the system disk, then press any key to start...". Can not get into safe mode. Does not response to any keys or F1-F12, or alt+ctrl+del". I do have a Recovery CD when I bought the computer almost…
