Turn off messages on Taskbar Notification Area?
by Guest Ed from AZ- 2 replies
I'm sorry this is such a mundane and simple question. But every time my laptop fires up, it gives me messages about wireless network availability and connections, antivirus update status, and sundry other things, all with the little balloons from the icons on the right end of the Taskbar. They take a long time to go away - just about as long as it takes to "X" out each and every one!! Is there one simple setting that will turn all these off? Ed

Followed Microsoft automatic update procedure and installed SP3 and then Iexplore 7, now every time I run windows explore it crashes when I try to change folders. Seems to be a common problem when I googled it, but I can not seem to find a fix other than uninstall back to SP2, seems a bit drastic as I have no other issues. Any known fix for this problem Windows xp Home edition.

XP SP2 not installing.

I am not able to access my Windows XP. When I start Windows XP ( during booting ), for a 'flash' of a moment a blue screen comes on which something is written, but I am not able to see what is written there. After this the system restarts. I wanted to repair Windows XP ( assuming that some system file might have gone missing which was causing this behaviour ), but the setup fails everytime stating that some file is missing or corrupted and asks me to press enter to continue. When I press enter it says setup failed press enter to restart. And then I have to restart again. I used lens cleaner assuming that probably dirt and dust might be prohibiti…

"The NTVDM CPU has encounterred a illegal instruction cs.0559:ffdeop:ffif 0906 Choose: Close or ignore to close the application" I installed Registry Smart and ran a scan and got everything fixed. How to tell if a partition is primary?
by Guest Sal- 12 replies

I have a Dell Inspiron 1200 that has 16MB partition that's used for diagnostic testing. The disk management snap-in only tells me that it's 16MB FAT, Healthy (EISA configuration). I need to know if this counts as one of my four primary partitions. How can I tell? When I right click on it, it just brings up a help menu for the Disk Management Console.

Remove a cached credential

I have an odd problem. I recently had to change my user's naming convensions from just their name to first initials + last name. I did this pretty easily by just changing the users logon names in AD so all their SIDs stayed the same and I also updated their profile and home directory names (%USERNAME%) to reflect the new logon name. I have a problem with some laptop users where they occasionally make the mistake of using their old username when they are not on the network. When they are on the network it is fine because they get denied logon because of the non-existing name on the domain but when they are at home, the laptop allows them to logon with…

by Guest Baron- 4 replies

I'm running XP Pro and recently noticed that I can no longer open System Properties from control panel. I also tried Win-key + Break-key and that also does not open System Properties. However, I am able to get to Computer Management either from control panel or from My Computer|Manage. I tried starting in safe mode as a test but was still not able to open System Properties. Also, I am the administrator. Any ideas?

I hope someone, can help me out here. When I start my computer, a blank black screen comes up, with the following erroe message on it. "windows could not start because of an error in the software, load needed DLLs for kernel" Is there a way to fix this problem? Is there a way to get in to my system, to restore to a previous date, or to fix this problem? I do not have a XP recovery disc, as computer came with XP installed, is there a place to purchase an XP recover disc, if I need that? Anyone who can help, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Getting DVD drive to update directory
by Guest Don Wiss- 0 replies

I'm running XP pro. At times I have problems getting the DVD drive to update its directory. I try all sorts of refreshing but ending up booting my machine. This is kind of over kill. What simplier way is there to force an update? I do not have any sort of auto play turned on. (DVDs were burned as data DVDs with Nero.) Don <www.donwiss.com> (e-mail link at home page bottom).

XP Home+SP2 - IE7 I am gaving a ShutDown problem When I go to Shutdown it hangs for quite a while (almost a minute) on Logging Off and then eventually goes to Windows is Shutting Down and it Shuts Down but it misses out 'Saving your Settings' I have done a System Restore but I can't remember exactly when the problem started so that didn't cure it I have looked at the Auhma Site Page but nothing seems relevant Most problems of other people seem to be hanging on Logging Off, same as me but no-one else seems to have the missing 'Saving your Settings' problem
