I have XP SP3 (3 GB RAM) and suddenly most of my programs are closing slowly (Outlook 2007, IE 7, Word, etc). Everything seems to run fine but it takes several seconds for these programs to close. Is there a fix for this? I have already run a virus scan, defraged, check disc and spyware programs. Thanks

Windows Indexing
by Guest Antares 531- 14 replies

How may I remove all traces of Windows Indexing? I've tried everything I can think of but it still interferes and causes my computer to stumble along. I get a repeating message in Outlook saying that an error has occurred and I need to send a report to MS...Send...Don't Send. When I start Outlook it hangs for about 45 seconds while Indexing tries to it's thing, but can't get it done. It continues to show that I have unread e-mail messages, but there are no unread messages. Even when I put Indexing in Snooze mode it continues to mess things up. I want to remove Windows Indexing completely, and deport it to some foreign planet where it will never, ever find…

Scripting error
by Guest C.B.- 2 replies

Again, as in my previous post, I am having a problem in my son's account on a computer running XP Home SP2 and IE7. My administrator account, the main account, has no problems whatsoever. His limited account, and if changed to an administrator account, suffers a "scripting error" problem. I open IE and all I get is a scripting error window that takes about 50 clicks to close. This problem repeats itself and is quite persistent. I do not suffer this problem on my administrator account. I have deleted his account and created a new one but the problem persists. I have gone into Internet Options, Advanced and viewed all the selections and everything is f…

I have tried 2 or 3 PS/2 Keyboards, and are not recognized in the boot process ; so it seems the motherboard´s plug is broken. I am using an USB keyboard , whitch it´s fine for me , but if a need to boot from a CD or press F8 , the USB keyboard doens´t work. This seems to be related to windows , since if I press DEL , I can get into the setup. Is there a workaround for this ?

Wireless or Hardline Internet to basement?
by Guest Eric- 9 replies
My roadrunner cable comes into the basement and runs upstairs (2nd floor – used often) where the wireless router (MS500 Base station) and modem (Motorola surfboard) are, what is the best way to get an internet connection in the basement for occasional PC use? I also have enough Cat-5 to hard wire an ethernet cable from upstairs but am unsure if it will diminish the signal or any other solutions. Time Warner wants me to buy their wirless router but can't guarantee signal strength. Thanks! Eric

why does logging onto yahoo email poision my system ?
by Guest nucleus- 1 reply

am on dial-up speed, and frequently when attempting to logon to yahoo email using IE6, at such long waits, i notice that there appears to be unused time on the communication through the ISP, so i multitask by calling up google or some other website. then, something is poisoning my online capability and i cannot get any online communication. this is happening frequently enough to be annoying. i call it poisoning because i then cannot do any online activity either with IE6 or Firefox. i have tried closing the isp link and initiating a new link, does not help, the online capability is gone. only rebooting will solve the problem. am using XP pro SP2 wi…

I am using Windows XP Pro and I have 2 accounts on my system: 1) Blake and 2) the Guest account. "Blake" is an administrator account that is password protected. However, when I boot into XP, I am never shown a login screen; my computer simply boots directly into the "Blake" account without prompting for a password. Why is it doing this and how can I fix it?

Does anyone have a solution for a locked desktop tab key? I followed the instructions on the microsoft website to get my desktop tab back, but all the buttons are grayed out except the color one. I know someone said to go to the customize desktop option and click on the web settings, but I don't have a web settings option, only the general settings. I am very frustrated, does anyone have a solution?

Slow Logoff
by Guest Jason- 0 replies

I am calling a logoff script using group policy and users experience a 600 second delay logging off in the following two scenarios: Scenario #1 1. Connect to VPN before logon 2. Log on (group policy applies setting to call logoff script from a network location on log off) 3. Disconnect from VPN (but stay connected to an external network) 4. Log off (The system hangs at the “running logoff scripts” screen as it can no longer connect the server the logon script is on and then times out after 600 seconds) Scenario #2 1. Connect Internal Network before logon 2. Log on (group policy applies setting to call logoff script from a network location on log off)…
