Must refresh folder after adding new folders or files to see changes
by Guest David F.- 4 replies
I have Win XP SP2 installed. I have a shared folder on our Win 2003 SBS R2 server. When one of our users (the boss) adds a folder to the shared folder it doesn't show up untill "Refresh" is selected from the menu or he presses the F5 key. Then we see the folder "New Folder". He can change the name of the new folder but again the changes can't be seen until a refresh is done. The same goes for adding new files or changing the names of existing ones. This is only happens when he is working in the network shared folder. None of the rest of our users are having this problem so I'm sure that it is a problem with his computer. Any ideas? Thanks

Default.rdp file appears in folder
by Guest George- 3 replies

Hello, I'm using a WinXP-pro PC. Was experimenting with remote desktop (or whatever allows you to access PC across the Internet from another PC. Noticed Win left this file... My Documents> Default.rdp Was wondering... 1) What's in this file, what's it for? 2) Does it drop this same file (or a file with same name) in every folder I visit while using remote desktop? 3) This adds some clutter to my "My Docs" folder. If I erase it, what are consequences, e.g. ... "none, because it regen's it when _____". or "It'll regenerate it when ____but you'll have to re-enter ______", or ___________(something else) Thanks, George If I ear…

I use my PC 90% of the time but when I travel is there an easy way to copy files in one or two keystrokes to a USB? Right now I use windows explorer and finding every file (palm organizer, account database, miscellaneous .xls & .doc files) then copy them to my USB storage. I'm sure there's an easier way. Thanks, Eric

XP Install stops. Fatal error. ASMS error. One simple solution
by Guest scotteh- 0 replies
Just thought I'd post this in case anyone finds it useful (like ME in the future!). I found the same error many times googling for an answer, but no solutions. I tried something simple on this computer and it worked. Error: During XP install it stops and says this: An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing. Other messages I've found around the internet show that It always seems to happen at the ASMS part of the install. Solution: Well, this will only work on specific computers obviously but it could be a useful clue. I just used the other CD-rom drive! This computer had 2 and I was installing from the top drive. After trying an…

Beed Help - Folder Permissions
by Guest gecko- 2 replies
I am using the so-called Solutions Center for the HP 7200 series AIO, and cannot get the scan function to save what I scan. It shows an error message saying that it cannot do the save. I am using XP PRO SP2. I had created a new folder called c:\My Scans, but I notice the properties say read only. Naturally, I suspect this is my problem, but when I remove the check on read only, it comes right back again. That is, it won't let me remove the check. The XP Helps show that I should be able to change permissions, but it shows doing it via a security tab under the folder's properties. I see no such tab. What am I missing? Am I in the right place to do what …

Please re-install a copy of the above file So.....what can I do? it just goes back to a black screen. How can I fix the problem and If I cant fix it, I just want to get my files off the hard drive (docs, pictures, mp3, etc) then get a new computor. Can I retrieve files off the hard drive somehow?

How can I get in my LAN when I boot from a WinPE disk?
by Guest Levlg- 1 reply
I have a home network of three computers, all under WinXP via modem NetComm NB5Plus4. I have a few boot disks, including Acronis emergency disk. If I boot a computer by this CD (from Acronis), I easily get in local area network and can save backup (a disk image) of one computer to another, i.e. through my network. It means that the operating system of this disk "sees" neighbouring computers in my network. But if I boot a computer by a WinPE disk, I cannot get in other computers of my network. I can get in the Internet, but cannot get in neighbouring computers. Why? What and where should I change for this? Thank you Lev

Maximum Recommended Uptime
by Guest M- 9 replies
Does anyone know if there is any information on maximum recommended uptime for Windows XP? I tend to reboot my PC daily after all why leave a PC running when I am not using it? However an issue has arisen with a client who apparently never reboots their PCs as matter of policy and has an uptime of over two months. He has reported an issue with an application that I am expected to support and I have suggested that at least the occasional reboot would be wise. He being an awkward individual who now wants me to prove this! Can anyone help?

Usually I get a couple of minutes of use before it hangs. I have two different external drives - the problem occurs with both of them. Without the external drives Windows Explorer runs fine. Any ideas??

control panel reflects few versions of same programme
by Guest Menikos- 7 replies

Hello I installed the microsoft.net framework 2.0 service pack 1 (185MB) and upgraded to 3.0 service pack 1 (245MB) and then to 3.5 (25MB) and they all appear in the Control Panel. Does this mean the actual size of this programme in my pc is the sum total of all 3? If so, can I safely remove the earlier 2 versions and still have the full function of the 3.5 with just 25MB? Or is there a better of doing this? I have another programme I want to remove from the PC which I cannot Remove; the error message is - an installation support file could not be installed. The system cannot find the file specified. I have already removed this programme from the …

Unknown dll Errors
by Guest PAmichele- 3 replies

I have a multiple problem that I'm hoping for "simple" help with as I'm not comfortable making Registry edits and am a semi-novice. On booting up Windows XP: Error Loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\tlrqlswg.dll AND again for vpvrxbct.dll. I've had SP2 but the person I share the computer with said he installed SP3!? I use AVG Free and Ad-Aware and that's when it started somehow. I've scanned with several other pgms but most charge to do a complete scan and removal. Is there a GOOD spy/malware pgm that I can run on a regular basis ? I don't have money to be buying all kinds of regedits and such. Secondly ... also on startup I also get an installation attemp…

Icons on login screen won't work
by Guest alsmithfl- 2 replies

I've seen about every other login problem but this one. I've had NO issues with my computer, and haven't installed new software. Today I rebooted and the account icon cannot be clicked. I tried using the alt+tab keys and was able to highlight the icon, but could not select it to get any further. I rebooted into Safe Mode, and the same thing happens - no way to get past the login screen. Any ideas? Thanks!
