I have a laptop that I purchased about 8 months ago. (it came installed with word for home and students) When trying to access Word, I am requested to give the "Product Code". I found the code on the bottom of my laptop, and I have entered it SEVERAL times and it continues to give me an error message that it is not correct. I can no longer use the word on my computer. Does anyone have a resolution to this issue? Thanks..... John

I have 2 identical computers and I have the same problem with both. I have ASUS P5GC-MX/1333 socket 775 motherboard. I have a Seagate 80GB SATA/8MB 7200RPM OEM hard drive. I have an LG GSA-H55N 20X Dual Layer DVD burner (OEM). My DVD burner is hooked to an IDE cable. When I try to hook up a slave hard drive to the IDE cable, it does not see the drive unless I unhook the DVD burner. I cannot see both the slave drive and the DVD burner at the same time. I tried different combination of slave and master configurations but I still cannot see both devices. I tied with 2 different know good hard drives that worked on other computers bot…

Windows Explorer crashes... help!
by Guest Mill3rs- 14 replies

Hi, I'm having a problem with my windows explorer. Every time I try to open the "My Pictures" folder and look at the pictures therein, the Windows Explorer suddenly quits. If I have an MSIE page open, that also quits. It gives me the choices to debug, send error message and cancel. I've tried to debug, but it has not helped, so sent several error messages, but nothing has helped. I've not noticed this problem in any other part of my computer, just when trying to look at pictures. I want to be able to put pics of my family on the computer and print them out, but it won't let me. I have run several scans from several different programs - several …

Which USB port do I use and can I switch?
by Guest bummerz- 2 replies

I just installed my printer after restoring my system. Now the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is in my system tray. It wasn't there before I restored the system unless I had something plugged in obviously. Did I plug my printer into the wrong USB port? If I did, how do I move it? Additionally, I now have new "Removeable Disk" drive in my drive locations and nothing is plugged in. I want to remove that so I don't get confused when I DO have a removeable drive/device plugged in. Should I just remove the device? The printer is listed under printers. Thank you.

by Guest Markkk- 4 replies

Recently I’ve noticed when I bring up Google I lose my cursor. I have to move my mouse to the query line and click on it to get the cursor back and enter a query, which is something new. Has anyone else noticed this, and if so were they able to get around the extra mouse click?

2 Questions

I'm running XP Home SP2 after upgrading from ME. 1. The disk clean-up utility has the option of getting rid of the over 900 mb worth of ME files. Is that the best way of doing that or is there a different way? 2. In the control panel while view it in classic mode, I cannot see the add/remove programs applet. Switching it to category view shows it though. How do I make it show in the classic mode?

Just what is XP Black??????? 1 2
by Guest Ken Springer- 30 replies

I've got a nephew who had come up with a copy of XP Black. He is after me and his dad to install that on our computers. I've done a Google search, and one here in the XP newsgroups, and cannot find out exactly what it is.......or isn't. Just discussions as to whether it's bogus or not. Even in this newsgroup area there's an argument about the "bogus" issue. :-( Bogus or not, what *IS* it? This is what I want to know. If it is bogus, I might make a separate boot partition (have to learn how to do that! LOL) to experiment with XP Black. But I've no intention to use is as the regular OS. Too damn many problems with the real thing, I'm not mas…

Does copy and paste have limits in XP?
by Guest Anthony Buckland- 6 replies

The subject line may seem like a very odd question, but ... I'm making my first acquaintance with large-capacity SDHC cards as data storage devices. Using an 8Gb Lexar card in an Optex USB2.0 adapter, I've tried three methods of copying data from my VAIO desktop (WinXP Media Center Edition with SP3, up to date) to the card: Send To, Copy and Paste, and XCOPY in command mode. In a sense, each method is a variation on copying and pasting. And with each method, once I get past a couple of GBy, I start getting errors -- corrupted files, or actual Delayed Write Failed errors. Does copying and pasting have limits to the amount of data that can be reliably hand…

How to Change the Default View in File/Open Window?
by Guest BillyBaloney- 5 replies
When I do a File/Open in a program, like Photoshop for example, it defaults to the Thumbnail view. I would really prefer the List or Detail view instead. Is there a way to permanently change the default view upon using File/Open? I don't think this is the same as the Folder View which remembers the last settings that were used for each folder being opened. TIA JoeW

Does anyone know where the win32/Bugbear.B.dam worm hangs out? Does it live in Outlook Express email attachments, specifically .pst files, and if so can it get out into other computer files?
