Scan function
by Guest NS- 1 reply
Every time I try to open a program, Windows Installer opens and tries to configure scan. Then I get this msg in a Scan box: "The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'Scan' disk and click ok." I've been printing out pictures and checking email, then suddenly this starts happening when I try to open those functions again just a short while later. Help!

I want to create a folder named "Notes and stuff".. BUT I would like to put some 'symbol - character - numeral' whatever to cause theat folder to be listed alpabetically at the BOTTOM of the alphabet.. below the leterr z (if I had any foders starting w the letter Z). Each symbol or numeral I added before the name Notes and stuff.. just put the folder alphabetically at the TOP of the alphabet.. before the letter A. SO the question : Is there a keyboard character that will sort a folder/filename BELOW the letter Z ??

Blue Screen Error
by Guest lyon_art@bellsouth.net- 3 replies

I ran an anti-virus program on a friends computer because it had several hundred viruses and worms. After healing/removing all the malicious junk I restarted the computer and received the blue screen with the following message: Stop: c0000135 {Unable To Locate Component} This application has failed to start because basemjjne32 was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Never seen such a message before but can't boot in safe mode or any mode for that matter. The computer is running windows xp if that helps. If there is any way to fix this, I'd really love to know. Also, is there any way to save the data on the hard drive if the r…

Is there a feature in XP that might turn off a USB printer to save power? I am aware of the check box in my subject line, but I wasn't sure which devices it applies to. If it DOES turn off the printer, how long is it before Windows turns it off? (I have XP SP2 on a home computer)

Re: mysterious error message log item Hi, I am also getting the same message, but mine says "The server could not bind to the transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{268C747B-4EAA-4411-8896-E15E357F6058} because another computer on the network has the same name. I've only just reinstalled my whole PC, so I'm not sure why this is happening. Any advice/thoughts? Thanks, Andrew G. I get a bunch of "Entry Point Not Found" errors when opening MSPAINT.EXE. If I keep hitting OK - it starts to load up MSPAINT. It just goes on and on and on... I found a procedure (download new version of IMM32.DLL - it is dated 2004 and my current DLL is dated 4/2008) - go into SafeMode and copy over existing - reboot and RUN REGSVR32 C:\windows\system32... When I go into SafeMode and attempt to copy - I get process in use. Any suggestions? Thanks!

by Guest sonicj- 7 replies

Running WinXP Home 2002 SP2 on a Dell Dimension DE051. When I plug a flash drive into either USB port on the front, the drive does not appear in My Computer window. When I look in the device manager it "sees" the drive and reads that it is operating properly. When I go to stop it, the drive is also seen. Each of the ports appear as Location 0. The drive works in other computers and I tested other drives and still the same problem. Any ideas? Thank you.

Backup or not?
by Guest Eric- 10 replies

In office, when I request my boss to purchase backup device for file storage, I suggest Storage Server or Server 2003, but they turn me down because of budget, then I suggestion portable HDD device for each dept head and they perform backup by themselves, then my boss suggests to use their desktop HDD / DVD for backup instead, but each PC only has one HDD, if this HDD fails, there is no backup. On the other hands, each dept head can burn all data files into DVD periodically, but the size for backup is 100 GB. Can they backup using DVD? Yes, but will they do it? No. My boss said why? Does anyone have any suggestions on how to respond this question? All the…

I purchased an HP computer several years ago. It came with MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook) installed for a trial period. I purchased the product before the end of the trial period. Recently my hard drive crashed and I lost my Office Suite. I had a new hard drive installed, but how do I get the programs back? There was never a CD with the programs on them. -- Livin'' the good life.

NTbackup not unsetting archive bit
by Guest Davy- 3 replies
I am running NTbackup from a Windows 2000 workstation. Monthly it backs up data on two Windows XP workstations on a simple MS network. Although files are backed up OK, the 'file ready for archiving' bit is not unset on each file. Therefore the daily differential NTbackup backs up the files all over again. I am wondering if the 'file ready for archiving' bit is not unset on a network computer? Anybody know?

Hi, This error occurs everytime i open a drive where my multimedias are. specifically the videos with extensions *.AVI and *.mpeg. When i open up my drive and folder this error pops up at least six (6) times. "Fatal Error: Installation corrupted - please reinstall nero". I have already installed and uninstalled and then re-installed the program again and again but the notification error still appears. It even appears when I had already uninstalled the program. I think it has corrupted my registry during installation process but i dont know where to look for it. Any ideas are surely appreciated.

missing hard drive space on new (used) laptop.
by Guest cosmo_kramer1@rocketmail.com- 10 replies

Hello, I just purchased an old used Toshiba Satellite laptop with a 20GB hard drive (Shows 18.x GB capacity in Explorer). It has Windows XP Home edition installed. I went through it and cleaned out any of the clutter (programs/files I don't need) to clear some drive space. Here's my problem/question... I only "see" about 5.5 GB of data on the C: drive (I have checked the option to display hidden files), but Windows Explorer still shows only 1.5GB of free space. Any idea what's happened to the other 11-12 GB of HD space? I'll probably be re-installing Windows XP on this laptop anyway, which presumably will give me back my drive space... But I am curiou…

Using TV as 2nd monitor
by Guest sbga- 6 replies

Hi, I am trying to use my TV to view AVI files on my laptop and I can't get it to work. I am using a s-video cable that converts to 3 red, green, and blue plugs.. and am using a standard RCA cable to connect from that to my TV.. my TV does have the red, green and blue plugs in the back. However when I hook it up I get nothing, and I have set in control panel to use the 2nd monitor. The video card in my laptop is a ATI radeon xpress 200 series. Do I need to get a program like ATI Catalyst? is this even possible? BTW, the adapter cable I am using came with a nvidia video card that I got for my desktop, but I am trying to use it with my laptop so I can view …

After XP SP3 pemanently fragmented files
by Guest Stephen Ford- 19 replies

PC= 2.8MHz Celeron + 1GB ram + loads disc space I have pemanently fragmented files. The defragmentation tool says the relevant file names are in the report but nothing is listed. Files defragmented properly prior to SP3 (which was SP2). Coincidence? The PC is fairly clean. Very little runs at start-up and nothing new operates compared with the setup with SP2. -- Regards Stephen Ford

USER32.dll Relocated - XP Service Pack 3
by Guest johnjinsf- 1 reply

There have been several postings in these Discussion Groups about user32.dll being relocated. The solution suggested has always been MS Knowledge Base article 935448 -http://support.microsoft.com/kb/935448. That solution is only relevant to XP SP2, and I am receiving the message after updating to XP Service Pack 3. Does anyone know of a solution once a user is at XP SP3 release? Thanks -- johnjinsf
