Batch files acting erratically?
by Guest Ross- 5 replies
If I go into the command prompt and type "defrag C:" (without quotes) everything works fine. However, if I run that exact same command from a batch file the command constantly repeats itself over and over like it's stuck in some kind of loop. If I write start defrag c: then about 250 cmd windows open and do nothing. I've checked DOSKEY /macros and they are empty (as they should be) Although it doesn't seem like a big deal it has me rather agitated. Anybody have any idea what is going on? Any help would be much appreciated.

Paint colours
by Guest Clare- 5 replies

The colours used in Paint carry numbers identifying the hue, saturation and luminescence. Is it possible to find out what these numbers are for any particular colour? I don't mean the colours given in the colour box but a colour, say, in a jpeg image imported into or saved in Paint. -- Clare

RE: Starting Up Computer (Programs that load automatically) Hi, Normally when getting rid of startup menu items I just remove them from MSConfig, through Start/Run, but when I execute the command it is returning nothing. It looks like I do not HAVE MsConfig on this PC. I do have a MSconfig file in the C:\i386 folder, but it appears to be called msconfig._ex so I am not sure whether this file is corrupt or what. It is a Dell Windows XP Home Edition. Any idea's? Tracey

Double clicking Network Drive opens My Documents instead
by Guest Bruce R- 3 replies

Hello... I have a user running Win XP sp2. Whenever she double clicks My Computer (or accesses it from Start - My Computer) all drives are displayed properly. Then when she double clicks the Shared Network drive, her My Documents folder is displayed instead. The only work around is for her to display the folders on the left, and then navigate to the shared drive. I right-clicked on it and chose Properties. It says that it's the I: drive (out network share). I was going to do System Restore, but she told me "it's always been like that." I'm wondering if its a Registry entry or what I could do to fix it other than using recovery disks. Any help is gre…

External devices and Autoplay does not work
by Guest K Stonefield- 1 reply

Hello, When I connect a Flash Drive or an SD card into my computer, the AutoPlay feature does not work anymore. I right-click on each device in "My Computer" and choose "Properties" and then "Autoplay" tab. Somehow it's always set to Music files but I choose Mixed Content and choose to always prompt me for action (which I've always done anyway). But when I exit, insert an external device, and check Properties again, it's set back to Music and the Autoplay feature still doesn't work. The only external device that works with Autoplay is my external hard drive connected via USB. Any advice or suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks! -K -- In t…

HP Network Server ?
by Guest Henry Kolesnik- 1 reply

I see that Office Depot has the HP MediaSmart with 500 gig for $600.00 which seems reasonable. I'd like to network 5 PCs, 3 with Vista and 2 with XP and printer. But in reading some of the reviews I see that HP doesn't support printers and one has to go through a bunch of steps which I don't want to take to get a printer. In another review I see that if you try to use two drives for redundancy it can lose files! But the complaints were from early this year and maybe MSFT and HPQ have solved the problem. So, does anyone have a suggestion for a plug and play server to handle 5 PCs, a printer, and access the Web that's easy to setup and reliable with o…

All of a sudden the appearance of all the icons in my start menu changed. For instance, instead of the Internet Explorer icon looking like a blue e, it looked like a blank box. Similar for Microsoft Word, etc. What's causing this, and how can I fix it?

A message comes up asking me if I want to "close the program" or "check online for a solution and close the program". It also says that messenger is not working but if i use another computer msn messenger is working. The thing is this is about a week going to weeks that it has stopped working. I really need some help. Thanks
