Printer gets added automatically
by Guest JohnB- 3 replies

I've never seen this before. I recently started working for this company... whenever I setup a new PC, it automatically gets a printer added, that is shared out from a particular PC on the network. It shows up as; Auto Forms on Computername. Every computer in the company has that printer. "forms" is the share name on the PC, which is running XP Home. How could this be happening automatically? I know how to do this from AD with a login script. But this company uses Terminal Server and RDP exclusively, none of the computers are joined to the Domain... so it can't be coming from a login script. TIA

0xc0000005 Recycle Bin exception error is back
by Guest Opinicus- 0 replies

Using WinXP with all updates etc in place. Lately I've started getting the 0xc0000005 error again increasingly more frequently when I double-click on the Recycle Bin or do a right-click / Open. Right-click "Explore" and "Empty" cause no problems. Didn't KB938828 fix this? Has anyone else started seeing this behavior again? -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com

Multiple Save Dumps
by Guest Ross- 0 replies

Up to this point I have tried to diagnose this problem on my own but I can see It's more than I can handle. Here is my system info and a log of previous failure reports and bug checks. I hope I have done them correctly as I have no experience whatsoever and have relied completely on information I could read at Microsoft. I had a problem with the computer going to blue screen and not restarting previously. It got so bad that it would not restart at all. I used a drive washer and wiped out everything. I used my XP Installation disc and reinstalled windows XP. I thought the problem was solved and now the computer is doing it again. I have some theories …

installing hard drive in 2.5" USB case andf connecting to computer with XP for data salvage

installing hard drive in 2.5" USB case andf connecting to computer with XP for data salvage Hello: I'm trying to salvage my hard drive. Following is the advice I got from a user of this newsgroup: "To see if your hard disk is still useable, remove it from the laptop and install it in an external 2.5" USB case. You can now connect this case to any Windows XP PC to check your files. Later on you can use the same case plus a 2.5" hard disk as your backup device. You'll be surprised how little it costs and how effective it is." Do you know where to find instructions for installing the hard drive into the case? Do they come with the case? Is this a simple p…

Greetings, During a lightning storm, the power failed. Upon reboot, a message indicated that new hardware had been found. I tried getting the drivers from the Windows XP Installation CD as well as other CDs, to no avail. This seems related to a USB 2.0 port? However, I am not sure. Can anyone help? In the hardware configuration the drivers it is trying to look for are 2Wire USB Remote NDIS Ethernet. I am trying the knowledge base in parallel, but my initial search yielded nothing. Thank you. Jean-Pierre P.S. This is the second time in as many weeks that I loose sofware in an abnormal shutdown...
