Offline Folder Sync issue
by Guest Benny Van- 1 reply
Hello All, I got a quick question: I setup up my Documents sync with a server shared folder, I use to be able use the offline files when I left the office. However today, when I used a public connection at Star Bucks, I found all the items in my Documents lost, which made sense since I am totally off the local network, I then went back to office and did a sync at logon, it went pretty fast, then I logged off, it took a while to sync again, since my sync was setup at both log on and off. Then I went home and found that my Documents contains all the folders there, which is a kind of improvement, but no files in the folder. Don't know why, any one could explain…

Jerky motion
by Guest Rich Pasco- 10 replies

I have an XP computer about two years old. For the last several months it's behaved in a very annoying way: Every second or so, things which should be moving smoothly stop briefly, then continue. These things include: Mouse pointer movement - No matter how smoothly and evenly I move the mouse, the pointer on the screen stops and jerks along its way. Video playback - Playing any video, the movement on the screen stops every second or so, and then jerks to catch up. At first I thought this was due to network delays, but it happens even with fully down- loaded videos. This happens with any media play (WMP, Winamp, etc.) This behav…

Blank Screen
by Guest dooglemcdermit- 2 replies

Ok, i don't really know how to start with this so i'll just get straight to it. Today I turned on my computer, same as pretty much everyday, however i experienced a problem with my monitor. The initial startup screen appeared (with the XP and dashes moving across the screen) but after that the screen went blank. Through my speakers i could hear that windows had fired up however i couldn't see anything on the screen. I logged onto the other computer in our house (lets call it computer B) and using logmein I tried to log on to the broken computer (computer A). I could log on as usual however a blank screen appeared on that too. Following this I plugged the moni…

Standard User Logoff Demand Re-Boot
by Guest Tom Baxter- 9 replies
Hi all, I'm seeing a very strange problem that's forcing me to re-boot after a Standard user logs off. Here's the situation: I have an XP Pro, SP2 machine. This is a stand-alone machine (no domain involved). There are two Standard Accounts (S1 and S2) and one Administrative Account (A1). After S1 or S2 logs off, the machine needs to be re-booted before *anyone* else can log on. Every time S1 or S2 logs off, no one else can log on. This weird behavior does not occur after A1 logs off. Now, what do I mean by, "needs to be re-booted"? After XP boots up (or after a user logs off) I see the standard screen that lists all user accounts with separate p…

XP Pro Activation After Windows Update - Error Code 0x8004050a
by Guest Flash999- 6 replies

After connecting to windows update the other evening and downloading WGA & IE7 along with other updates my computer asked me to activate windows when it re-started. It could not connect to the internet now for some reason so I used telephone activation. I then typed in the activation code and the computer returned error code: Problem with Windows Activation : Error Code 0x8004050a and computer logs me out. Please don't give me the following advice : 1. Contact MS - As I've got a support number and they have pointed me here or KB. 2. Try starting in safe mode - I've tried that but it still asks for activation 3. Re-Installing XP Pro - F…

by Guest what now- 1 reply

There were 2 unknown profiles on my computer (XP SP2) and when one of them was accidentally deleted all of the information on my real/ recognised profile disappeared (my documents, favourites etc). Much like the current profile had been reset. I don't seem able to find the deleted files or outlook.pst anywhere on the laptop. How do I retrieve the deleted profile (unknown user)? Will a system restore help?

Fonts in Windows XP - Strange Changes
by Guest David De Trolio- 0 replies
I am running Windows XP Professional SP3 on a Dell OptiPlex. In the last few days I have noticed on the bottom of some pages in AOL when opening a link or when sending error messages into Microsoft the font on the screen looks like a leftover from Windows 3.11! It also has the same look when I see the splash screen come up for my fingerprint login software from Microsoft. There is nothing I can recall changing of recent, it is all the same video card and monitor. About the only system change made was removing an extra USB card which of course had me open the case. I jumped into Regedit to clean out some old programs, and when I clicked on File o…

Unable to print in a workgroup
by Guest Sol- 0 replies

Hello. I was working on a 2 PC Windows XP Home SP2 workgroup and I was unable to get a shared printer to print from one of the PCs. The PC hosting the printer was an older Dell Dimension desktop which could print without issues, and the other PC in the workgroup was a Dell laptop (Latitude?). The PCs are connected through a Linksys WiFi router (the laptop is wireless, the desktop wired). The printer is set to be shared, and both PCs can access the internet, and ping each other successfully. Running the Add Printer wizard on the laptop at the beginning of all this, and selecting "browse the network for printers" did list the printer share, but when I tried …

My mothers pc will not boot up after SP3 was installed. She gets to the screen before XP Home boots asking if she wants to go to Safe Mode, etc. But when a option is selected it states to insert the setup disc and press "R" to try to correct a corrupted or missing system file. She is looking for her installation disc. Is there a way to correct this without having to purchase a new one?

mpwxpg readers, I greatly appreciate any help with the following problem. I have checked the ms knowlege base and followed the directions given but have not been able to resolve the problem. The Problem: My computer was infected by spyware trojans that disabled the Taskmgr and Regedit utilities on the "computer administrator" desktop (start>run>regedit or taskmgr). In both instances, when trying to run the utilities I got the "regedit/taskmgr disabled by your administrator" error message. Both utilities were still visible on the guest desktop and in safe mode "administrator" but not in "computer administrator". The trojans were contained in the anti…
