Vista and older versions of Word
by Guest blackdog- 11 replies

I prefer my Word 97 to any newer Word version. However, with Vista I get this error message when I print from Word 97. winword.exe-Application error The instruction at ox776d82b8 referenced memory at ox000000.... The memory could not be read. What I do now, is I copy the Word 97 file to a new version of Works, and print it there. Is there a solution, as I want to use Word 97 in Vista. By the way, I can print envelopes in Word 97?

Can't remove ver 3.0 of Google Earth
by Guest jf19- 4 replies
When I try to remove Google Earth 3.0 I get the following: The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "Google Earth.msi". I don't have Google Earth.msi on my computer, so how can I get rid of this version? I can download the latest version of Google earth but when I try to run it, it says my current version is 3.0 and I need to upgrade to 4.3. So somehow I need to get rid of version 3.0.

Gurus, Running Windows XP Pro SP3. I run my computer as a limited (non-administrator). There is one program I need to launch as an administrator, and I certainly know how to right-click and select "Run As" and input administrative credentials. But what happens is if I save data under that program it goes to the Administror's My Documents and not to my own. So I need to figure out how to use "Run As" but send data to my profile. This would apply to Windows Server 2003 as well I guess. -- Spin

ewgmfxd.dll
by Guest Northern Pike- 2 replies

For the longest time, booting up my system has always given me a warning popup indicating the ewgmfxd.dll could not be found. I would simply click OK and continue. I decided to investigate and did a search. The results gave me one file named ewgmfxd.dll.{a whole bunch of numbers here}. So, I simply renamed it by removing the .{842833282988489342389whatever} so it was back to its original name. I then did a virus scan on the file which indicated it was fine. So I rebooted my system hoping all would be fine and I would never see that popup warning again. No such luck. It now says something about the file not being a proper windows driver file. I click the OK…

Windows XP Service Pack 3
by Guest homebody54- 4 replies
When trying to download and install SP3, I received a message several times along the way that certain service pack files could not be copied, and did I want to go ahead and install without them? There were several of these files that could not be copied, here's an example: -comadmin.dll ("cannot read from the source file or disk") -slbcsp.dll ("data error-cyclic redundancy check") -sqlolebb.rll ("data error-cyclic redundancy check") -wmsdmod.dll ("data error-cyclic redundancy check") At this point I aborted the installation. Should I go ahead and install without these or further files that may not be able to be copied? How important are they?

I changed a fan in my computer and now it will not boot up. I tried Safe mode and Last known good configuration, but nothing works. It appears to be booting then a blue screen appears but it disappears so quickly I cannot read what it says. Is there any way to freeze the screen at that point? Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thank you.

by Guest JJ- 21 replies

I was reviewing my programs in control panel and I found some programs that I do not think I ever use or need and want to know if I can delete them without interfering with some other programs or operations. Apple Modile Device Support: I do not own or use any Apple products. Apple Software Update: I still do not own or use any Apple products. Quicktime: If I use Windows Media Player do I still need Quicktime? I see a banner on top of the screen 'Click Here to Install Silverlight' What is Silverlight? JJ -- jj

Unidentified file: rwywubay.dat
by Guest Larry Kahm- 6 replies

Customer complained of a problem - couldn't connect to the internet, desktop didn't display, no response. I'm running a SysClean scan and there is one file, rwywubay.dat, that couldn't be deleted from the C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Temp folder. The file was currently in use, despite being logged on in Safe Mode as Administrator. I can't find any reference to this file anywhere. Has anyone ever heard of this? Thanks! Larry

Installing Media Center Over XP Pro: What Am I Looking For?
by Guest (PeteCresswell)- 5 replies
Did the install once - got into trouble when it kept asking for SP2 - CD1, so I bypassed all those copies and then applied SP2 afterwards. Result was that I can't see any diff from when I started. TB expected maybe - as SP2 could have downleveled the Media Center stuff? But now I'm running a second Media Center install. When all the dust settles, what am I looking for to tune TV programs? I've got an ATSC card in there. Whether the driver is A-OK is another question.... could the absence of a tuner card be making XP look like it's not Media Center? Or am I looking for a specific application (other than Media Player) to tune TV? -- PeteCresswell

I installed Systweak's Advanced System Optimizer before for trial and uninstalled it. Recently, I would try a new version but when I install and run it, it displays as the software is expired. I guess some old file or registry were not removed after I uninstalled this software last time. Does anybody know how to remove them completely?

Everything is in italics. How do I get all fonts back to normal ??
by Guest Synapse Syndrome- 11 replies
This is actually a problem I am having with Windows Server 2003, but I am sure that the solution is the same as XP. When I applied SP2 for Windows Server 2003, around this time last year, every font turned to italics - the Start Menu, context menus, all text in applications, Event Viewer, Device Manager, IIS Manager, all wizards and dialogue boxes, title bars, icons text, etc. Even the nearly all the text in websites when using IE7 or Firefox is in italics (it does not appear in italics in the rare cases where the CSS calls for 'normal'). The only thing that is not in italics is the Command Prompt. I have been using it for a year thinking that this w…

My firewall tells me that this 'unwanted' program has to be blocked and erase. I click 'ok', then I told to restart the laptop, that the program was removed. After restarting (three times) I get again the same warning, and it seems a repetitive thing that doesn't end. Any advise? Mi laptop: hp pavillion. windows xp

Removable Drive Letter Mapping
by Guest John Gregory- 15 replies
Removable Drive Letter Mapping Is there a way to force the drive letter assignment for removable USB drives? (in the same manner as mapping network drives perhaps?) I frequently use two removable drives, a USB thumb drive with transfer files, and a USB hard drive for back-up purposes. I use batch files to transfer frequently used work files, and another program do perform backups, however they are dependent upon drive letter assignments to work properly.

Vundo infection... nearly fixed.
by Guest Teneo- 3 replies

After spending 2 days fixing vundo infection, spybot and malwarebytes helped clean it. Both give a clean bill of health but I have a little issue in MSCONFIG. There is an entry for Rundll.exe c:\windows\system32\siyipino.dll in msconfig. When I try to untick it and save settings in msconfig I get access denied must be a member of administrator when I am member of administrator. I searched google and there are posts about HP software and Mcafee. I dont have HP software, I have mcafee which was uninstalled but didn't make a difference. I still cannot change settings in msconfig... ANY IDEAS ? Ccleaner lets me delete entries in 'start up' but 30 secon…
