Remote Desktop Connection Credentials
by Guest Gretchen Hembree- 3 replies

I have a few users that use Remote Desktop Connection to connect to our Terminal Server (after a VPN connection is established.) I have a Vista user that is asked for his user name and password directly after hitting connect in RDC. After it then connects to the server he must reenter it because he is actually connecting to a defferent machine (through a drop down list.) I blamed this on a Vista issue and told him hopefully it would be fixed with a Service Pack. In the meantime I replaced my home machine with a XP pro and it works like normal, not asking me for my username and password until I am at my server's log on screen. However now I am looki…

Task Scheduler password
by Guest PSRumbagh- 2 replies
Trying to schedule a simple reminder to exercise my HP color inkjet printer every Friday. I plan on doing this by having Task Scheduler open a Notepad text file every Friday. The Task Scheduler Wizard seems to require a password be entered before the "reminder" Task can be successfully added to the Task list. This in turn requires that I enter my password everytime I boot-up, which I don't want to have to do as this is a single user home computer. How can I get around this roadblock?

Nagging Win IE 7 "AD"
by Guest thinman- 4 replies
For some unknow reason, I've been inflicted with what appears to be an "AD" from MS each time I open IE6. The result of this is an attempt to change the "First Home Page" in IE6. This is the URL -- http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx I've verified that my home page is set to the ISP web page (Tools - IE options) and in the registry. LavaSoft's AdWatch considers it as a possible "Browser HiJack" item and starts displaying Registry alerts, none stop !!. I can disable the monitoring function of AdWatch and it ceases to be a problem; but then, I'm theoretically exposing myself to the risk of a true HiJack event. I can al…

WinXP Home Edition Version 2002 SP2, current with Windows Updates, on a Dell laptop. IE7, MS Office 2000, Opera 9.27, etc. I have a strange text rendering issue in some applications. I suspect that it is caused by some bad code, maybe corruption of some important file, in Windows itself. But, I really don't know. There are also recurring issues regarding rendering when I type a question mark or an angle bracket (?, < or >) in various applications. The fact that there are similar issues (not identical) in several applications makes me think that this is not just a problem with IE7 or MS Office on this PC, but may be some more fundamental problem with…

only a few vista computers will remain by 2010
by Guest Clear Windows- 21 replies
Vista is generally known as the worst and most hated MICROSOFT operating system ever made. Many were smart enough to wait (and still use XP) until the better faster windows 7 would come out... and many will upgrade to windows7 the very first day it will be available in order to get rid of the crappy vista running on their machines. Vista's decline will be such that has never been seen in computer history. The number of computers running vista by 2010, only a year after windows7 will be released will be less than 1% thank god.... let vista be forgotten like a big fat ugly nightmare...

RDP from Vista to XP fails - you are already connected
by Guest Keith- 2 replies

The RDP connection from the new Vista Business laptop to the Windows/XP Pro PC was working, briefly, for a couple of weeks. This was after the home network was expanded with Linksys router and wireless laptop. Now, the message "The client could not connect. You are already connected to this computer. A new console session could not be established" is displayed. Both computers have been shutdown and restarted. Any ideas as what could be wrong?

Motherboard swap
by Guest Lee M- 5 replies

What do think the chances are of a mobo swap without having to do a repair install on these two similar systems: Mobo: Epox 8RDA3+ vs Epox 8RDA3+ Pro Northbridge: nVidia nForce2 Ultra 400 vs nForce2 Ultra 400Gb (gigabit LAN) Southbridge: MCP2 vs MCP2S video card: same card in each hard drive: Seagate 120GB IDE vs Seagate 80GB IDE LAN: onboard Realtek vs Netgear PCI wireless Reason for swap is troubleshooting the occasional boot failures (stops on BIOS screen) on the 8RDA+ system.

Windows XP and Dreamweaver question
by Guest GeneCook2008@gmail.com- 1 reply

Hi, A business person asked me to check their website for the correct display of special lyrics that I wrote that are embedded in their website. My job is to see if they are on the right place on the website soon to be published. They created the messenger kind of website with Dreamweaver. I was unable to download their file(s) on my computer (HP Laptop) as I don't have Dreamweaver. What other possibilities are there for me to see if all is correctly displayed and to correct what is wrong? Gene

Cannot alter read-only status of favorites
by Guest Ric- 0 replies
Hello, I have just clean reinstalled XP. Before doing so, I backed up all my Internet Explorer favorites to a USB hard-disc. Unfortunately these favorites are locked read-only, and I can't change this attribute. I have tried changing the attribute in the file properties, but this does not work. I have also tried the attrib -r command but this does not work either. Does anybody have any suggestions? I made all the favorites on my old Vista installation, and so maybe the problem is linked to UAC on Vista?

While trying to find a NetMeter for monitoring the speed of the broadband connection I have, I suddenly found Security Alert messages on my computer warning me that there are spywares on my computer etc and so I must go to the web-site of some software named NetProject and use their services to remove the spyware etc.The same software has also added a Toolbar named Security Toolbar 7.1 to the toolbar I have in I. E. 7. I am wondering as to how to remove this intruder and ask Microsoft as to how this intruder could push in, in spite of the Firewall being ON and my Virus software QuickHeal operational? I am asking QuickHeal too the same question. Any advic…

XP taskbar problem?
by Guest GrtArtiste- 9 replies
Dell XPS400 running Win XP SP3. I noted after doing the upgrade that the taskbar behaves differently. It used to always display a button to expand/hide inactive icons--not any more. In fact, I have used Control Panel/Taskbar & Start Menu/Customize to select 2 icons to "always show" (Volume and Safely Remove Hardware)...but when and if the system will do it seems to be largely a matter of luck. It's especially irritating when I can't adjust volume as desired. Even when a USB flash drive is recognized, the Hardware button does not appear. Is there a fix for this? Thanks for any assistance.
