I would like for my Win Explorer window to appear in a certain place each time. I resize it and reposition it to that place. But when I close it and reopen it, it does not come back. What is the easiest way to get the size and position to stick? Thanks in advance. Bob

XP computer doesn't see Vista computer on network
by Guest Ernie Lane- 1 reply

I have a home wireless network, a "standard" one: the router is attached to a desktop (XP) and I have a laptop (Vista) that is wireless. I print using printer sharing on the desktop, so I know the laptop "sees" the desktop, at least for that (or is it that the laptop sees the desktop?). That's confirmed in Network -- on the laptop, I see the deskrop's Documents ,Shared Documents and Printers. However, it doesn't work in the other direction: nothing on the laptop, not even the laptop itself, shows up. However, if I click on "view workgroup computers" in Start...My Network Places on the desktop, the laptop computer is listed. However, if I double-c…

Windows XP and MDAC 2.5 or Later Edition
by Guest Steven L.- 0 replies

I received a CD-RAM from the Department of the Army that apparently requires MDAC 2.5 to view its contents (x-ray films). When I try to download MDAC 2.5 or 2.8, my system tells me that an error occurred and this software is already a part of Windows. The ability to view this CD-ROM is essential for Disability Claim purposes, but I am unable to use the CDVIEWER progam on the CD-ROM. Does anyone have a solution?

Say's no sound card detected
by Guest r8er4ever- 7 replies

One day after a power outage all the sudden no sound. I have tried again and again to install the driver's, but I keep getting the message that it is not detecting the card. But if I go to device manager it shows my sound blaster card there with a yellow ! on it. Also when I boot up my computer every time it loads windows I get that blue screen and it wants to do some kind of disk check. If I allow it to do that it gives a error and shuts down, but if i hit space key and skip it, it boots fine except for the sound problem of course. So any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Here is a EVEREST summery I hope it supply's any needed info on my computer to…

How do you restore if your hard drive crashes?
by Guest Chris23- 5 replies

I use Acronis True Image to back up my entire HD. I back up all files to create a system disk image. Now - what if I have this image on a separate USB backupdrive. Next thing is the hard drive on the XP computer irrevocably fails. Then I get a new blank formatted HD installed. What do I do at that point to get it all back on the new computer drive? Don't I need the setup files that were on the original failed drive, and the acronis program, to bring it all back? This is called disaster recovery? Not restoring. Thanks.

Hi: Since it seems now be harder to tell which CPU is preferred based upon dual core and quad core I have a question that maybe someone can answer in descriptive terms. Which would be better to acquire, a dual core with higher speed or a quad core at a lower speed? Thanks

Is there some way to stop WinXP Disk Error Checking on boot?
by Guest E-Double- 3 replies

Is there some way to (safely) terminate the Windows XP Disk Error Checking process during boot? There is a critical PC that needs to be accessed, but that is running the disk check on boot-up. Just trying to reboot, however, re-initiates the disk checking process and does not give the message 'Press Any Key In 5 Seconds To Cancel Error Checking.' In order to bypass this in the future, is there some way to get around this process? TIA ...

Strange Behavior-not sure what to do
by Guest Danger_Duck- 1 reply

So sometimes when I tell my computer to standby, it will do so, but after few minutes, the fan will start roaring and the CD drive sounds like it's spinning its heart out. During these antics, the computer comes back from standby without even touching the mouse or keyboard (perhaps fury of the fan moved the mouse a bit? No idea). Anyhow, since this is not a software problem and hence no stack trace etc. I have no idea what's going on or how to fix it. Suggestions?

After weeks of trying to resolve issues with my HP, I have ordered recovery CDs. I have a couple of concerns... 1) Is there anything I need to do to prep the HP before the installation? 2) Will the recovery affect the BIOS? As always, thanks for all the help!!
