XP Home: How to know my upgraded RAM are up and running ? Dear Sir, I have just installed 2 X 512 MB of RAM in additional to the existing 2 x 235 MB that are already on the slots. I turn on my PC, It is running, but I hardly notice any difference, also the System Info under the Control Panel still shows the old information. May I know how to carry out a test to confirm the new RAMs status ? Thanks Low -- A36B58K641

Dymo Labelwriter application error
by Guest goplayoutside- 2 replies
I'm getting an Application Error with my Dymo Labelwriter. "Exception EPrinter in module LABELS.DLL at 00072F9B. I searched DYMO's website and found my error message but none of their suggestions worked, including removing the labelwriter and reinstalling the driver. I did a system restore to a date prior to when the error occured, and that fixed it, but the next morning, the error message returned. I'm at a loss as to what to do next and am hoping I'll find some help here. Thank you.

Has anyone that has installed the final release of sp3 been able to confirm whether or not sp3 removes the address bar from the task bar? I know it did in the previous releases. I'm holding off on installing it until I know for sure. I am just too used to using this function. Nick

USB device malfunctioning
by Guest ah- 0 replies

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have the message: USB device malfunctioning but when I click on the message, the window that opens is always empty, except once where I had USB root hub (2 ports):unknown USB device and unused port. I keep hearing the sound of an USB device connecting-disconnecting. My laptop keeps trying to connect to WiFi, sometimes I have the message: no network available (but my other laptop can connect), sometimes it connects, but not for long. This problem could be linked to Activesync. When I put my laptop on, I have an Activesync message: cannot connect to the com port. If I reconnect, the PPC is recognized by the machin…

Address bar disappears after SP3 install
by Guest Hofendis- 1 reply

Looks like MS in its infinite wisdom decided to remove the address toolbar from the taskbar. IF the change is documented at all, it's buried. Oversight? Or just another MS whim? The fix is this: replace the new browseui.dll file with the one from SP2. There are already a number of web posts with instructions and even automated ..bat files to do this. -sd

Current (today) SP3 Issue
by Guest stosti- 7 replies

I rebuilt a new machine using an XP SP2 CD. The install was 100% successful. Using Microsoft update I downloaded and installed SP3. Once complete again using windows update and selecting custom I selected the following software optional updates: Windows Media Player 11 Remote Desktop Update Silver Light Update ..net 2.0 Root Certificate Update They all downloaded correctly. Windows tried to install them one by one. All 5 failed to install. I searched on the Expert Exchange for this issue. The answer is in KB943114. Registering wups2.dll corrects the issue. What is going on at Microsoft? I have tried this on at least 6 different branded sy…

Spell checker problem
by Guest Antares 531- 17 replies
I just went through the experience of a hard drive failure and when I got a new hard drive installed and my system back alive I found that Outlook Express won't do a spell check. The spell check function limits me to French only, and since I don't know or use French this is of no benefit to me. When I open Tools > Options then click on the Spelling tab I see the slot at the bottom with the words French (France) in it. The drop-down for this slot has no other languages listed. The spell checker works okay in all my Office 2007 applicaitons, and it goes through the process of doing a spell check in Outlook Express, but calls every word misspelled beca…

SP3 and Windows Defender
by Guest Simon- 9 replies

I updated from XP SP2 to SP3 about a week ago. I also run IE7 and AVG 8.0 and Windows Defender. Not sure whether this is coincidence but Defender is now doing a daily quick scan shortly after PC startup. This is not scheduled by me - the schedule setting is for a once a week quick scan on a Friday evening. PC is also running slower than before SPĀ£ update. Does SP3 override Defender in some way?

I loaded SP3 through MS updates and now I am getting a message that says " Windows cannot connect you to the network" Everything seems to be working fine and I can connect to the internet as well as the server and other places on my network but the toolbar on the bottom has the network connection icon with a yellow excalamtion point on it. When I go to the icon it says "Local Area Connection Speed 100 Mbps Authentication failed" any idea on how to resolve this? Asking it to repair itself does not help.

add/remove programs
by Guest Barry Karas- 15 replies

13/May/2008 8:00 Under the 'add/remove programs' of the control panel, most of the programs listed have indications on how often programs are used. There are programs that I know I use frequently, yet the listing reports that I use the programs infrequently -- or I used them over a month ago. Why? Is this important? If so, how would I make corrections? Barry Karas

Update installation: on the fly or at shutdown
by Guest Levlg- 2 replies
I have WinXP with automatic updates. My system sometimes suggests to install the updates directly on the fly. But sometimes my system installs the updates at shutdown of the computer. Why this is done in such a way? Is this because updates of different type? Is this because updates of varying urgency? Is this depends on the work being done on the computer at the time of updates come? Thanks Lev

no audio
by Guest Andrew- 3 replies

My laptop has no audio, except for a beeping sound it emits when I start up the OS. I read on another forum and it said to delete the WMM.... driver and reboot. I deleted on the "Sounds and Audio Devices">Hardward in Control Panel, coz when I highlighted "Device Status" it says "not working properly". Then I rebooted. Nothing happened, still no audio. Where can I download tis file ? It's probably a windows xp audio driver coz i hv got no specific audio card in my quite basic laptop. I can't remember the whole name already. cheers Andrew
