Help! Lost Password.
by Guest LMO- 2 replies
Aloha all. I forgot my logon password. Fortunately, I use Autologon, so I can still get on. But I'm concerned about changing my system now. When I try to delete the password altogether through the control panel, all I get is the incorrect password error. Is there any way to retrieve the password in the computer? Thanks all.

Store folders
by Guest Jim Macklin- 0 replies
When installing, most settings seem to be picked up and used when switching from OE to Live Mail. But storage folders are not. If you store your mail and messages on another drive or partition, you will need to make that change manually. You will need to show all menus/then Tools/Options/Advanced and click on the Maintenance button. You'll find the generally familiar OE options.

typing replaces text-fix
by Guest Jim Macklin- 0 replies
Noticed that typing was replacing text and could not find the reason or mention in the FAQ on how to fix it. The fix, open a new message, on the format menu [show all menus first step] then under Format, select Encoding, Western European Windows, ISO is the default and the typing replaces text. Suggest that searching for Help with typing as a keyword should point to this fix.

I just completed a new system with XP Pro 64-bit. Whenever a CD/DVD is inserted into my Philips Sata drive or a device is connected I get the usual pop-up box that has the following, "Windows can perform the same action every time you insert a disk or connect a device with this kind of file. What do you want to do?" At the bottom is a checkbox with the caption, "Always do the selected action." along with the "OK" & "Cancel" buttons. The big problem is that the middle selection area, for the actions that are supposed to happen, is completely blank! There is nothing to select to do the actions. If anyone could steer me to a solution to this annoying…

Mobile rack problem XP
by Guest Ken- 7 replies

I purchased a mobile rack and three interchangeable trays for storing data I don't need very often. I installed it first in my Windows 2000 system and it functions just fine--the disks are recognized when inserted and the powered up, and I can interchange them at will without problems. I recently built a new system based on Windows XP SP3. I purchased a second mobile rack for that unit with the expectation that I could use the mobile hdd's in either workstation. On the XPstation I have a C: drive active partition, a D: DVD writer, an E: partition (on the same drive as the C: drive) and an F: drive on its own partition (separate drive). I have 6 SA…

After performing a system clean up, some of the Accessories were missing. I was able to get back most of them through Add/Remove Components; however, for the GAMES, it's only bringing back Internet games but not the usual system games, such as solitaire, freecell, etc. PLEASE HELP? I've performed Add/Remove Components several times, rebooted, deleted the internet games and restarted again and nothing, the games are not loading. They're checked off, details depicts that they're there and those system games are the only ones to be loaded, it says nothing about the internet games, but that's all that's loading. I want my system games back... please help? L…

by Guest Tom- 7 replies

WinXP Pro SP2 all MS updates Dell Latitude D600 USB 2.0 ports ActiveSync 4.5 I'm unable to synchronize from my Motorola Q9c via the USB cable provided with it. I've also replaced the cable and I get the same results-no sync'g. I took my phone into the local Sprint store which checked for any nuances on the MotQ9c. Everything sync'd with them. When I use the USB 2.0 ports on the laptop in the back the Motorola Q9c is recognized but it doesn't sync. I've uninstalled and re-installed ActiveSyncv4.5 but no luck. The USB ports that I've used are also used for a) external IDE 160GB drive (bottom USB port) and b) external 750GB MaxtorOne drive for backu…

XP3 install fails: ntldr in use
by Guest Quaoar- 2 replies
XP3 installation via both windows update and burned CD both fail on this computer with the error "NTLDR in use, close all applications and click retry" (or something like that). This is a dual boot XP/Vista system. There is no error generated other than Canceled by user, which is true since there is no way out of the error. My belief is that the error likely resides with the Vista bootloader that controls the choice at boot between Vista and XP. However, I am unable to get beyond this using recommended BCDedit, etc., since this HP system has only recovery disks and not separate installation disks. Any advice is appreciated. Q

User accounts - looking for account
by Guest Don Culp- 1 reply
Under User accounts, only two accounts are listed: Donald R. Culp (administrator) -- password xxxxxxxx (not the real password). Guest -- no password. When I boot the computer the logon name in the logon dialog box is Don Culp. However, this logon name accepts the password from Donald R. Culp. (These are both me.) Where is the Don Culp logon name stored so that I can change it to Donald R. Culp? XP Pro, service pack 2. Thanks.

cannot recognize external hard drive anymore
by Guest scottfmd- 2 replies

I have been using an Iomega External Firewire hard drive for many years without problem. Recently I had to reinstall my operating system due to a wireless networking problem. Now that my XP is up and running again, the computer does not recognize the drive. It comes up on the "my computer" window as just a generic "local disk" with a drive letter, rather than the IOMEGA HDD icon like it used to. When I right click properties, it shows the free and used space on the drive that reflects the files I have saved on it; however I cannot access the files by clicking on the drive. The device is listed on the "device manager" properly as the Iomega External ha…

by Guest zedel- 1 reply

Is there any way that I can have the "active" window NOT be on top of all other (inactive) windows? I would like to have portions or all of an inactive window visible on TOP of an active window. This is a capability of some (unix) X-windows shells and I would love to be able to do it when using XP. Thanks for any suggestions.

Network WEP Key
by Guest Merlin- 15 replies
I've recently suffered a major PC Crash and I'm trying to recover that machine from it. One of the things I need to do is to reconnect it to my network, but I keep getting the message "Limited or no connectivity" when I know the signal strength is high and it did connect okay before the crash. I suspect that I'm not entering the correct WEP key - I thought I had it noted correctly, but it seems not. Is it possible to get the correct key from the two other PCs that are connected to the network or do I have to set up the network again from scratch? I'm running Windows XP on all machines. Help please!

I'm going to upgrade from XP home to XP Pro, however I read, I should ue the Upgrade XP Pro. 1) What about if I use the full version XP Pro SP2? 2) I use Firefox for navigating and Thunderbird for e-mail. Could the upgrade change my settings? i.e. Install IE and Outlook Express as defaults?
