Won't be installing sp3 !!
by Guest TulsaWitch- 8 replies

Am certainly glad I checked the messages re: the "upgrade" before I downloaded/installed the "SP3 update"!! I am NOT a computer person - so when (not "if") this "update" screwed up my computer .... I would have to have somebody come out - or me untangle it and take it somewhere ... to get it fixed !!! This is when it pays to be highly cynical of anything "new", "improved", etc.etc.! ESPECIALLY from Microsoft!!! -- )0( Blessed Be )0( The Tulsa Witch who rides Sport Bikes ;) -Teresa

by Guest Harlan Labs- 4 replies

When I try to schedule a task, I am prompted for my password. I do not have any passwords enabled. When I try to proceed, I get this error: "0x80070005 Access is denied. You do not have permission to perform the requested operation". I found the Microsoft fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/904423 I downloaded and installed the fix, but I am still getting the same error. What can be done to get around this problem? I am using WinXP v2002, SP2 Thank you.

Hello If this is not the right place to ask, please politely tell me where! Internet Explorer 7. Is there a facility to opt for a different location for the favorites file? Can't find it in the 'options' or elsewhere. I'd like to put it in My Documents for ease of scheduled backup. Currently it's in \Documents and Settings \ [name] \

by Guest tch- 9 replies

hello: I'm having difficulty reading my emails in Windows Life Mail. Latter will open, but when I click on each of the individual emails to read, nothing happens at all -- absolutely unresponsive. Same applies when I click on Junk, Drafts, sent, deleted etc. This is the first time that such a weird thing is happening. Can anyone please offer some suggestions to resolve this issue? help is most appreciated. System details: XP Pro, SP3, Zonealarm free.

Hello, Whenever I press CTRL+ALT+DEL and lock my other computers, the "Computer Locked" screen is always visible. However, I just installed XP on a new computer and now, as soon as I lock the computer, the "Unlock Computer" screen is immediately visible and the cancel button is greyed out so I can't even get to the "Computer Locked" screen. I have never seen this before on any other XP Pro machine. What is causing this to happen? Thanks, Jeff

Images won't save as Desktop Backgrounds
by Guest Talatriel- 5 replies
Wondering if anyone can help wth this. On Windows XP I had a photo from My Pictures set as a desktop background. Now screen is blue after turning on and I cannot save anything in My Pictures as a desktop background. When I go into the desktop properties and go to Themes I can click on any of the themes but nothing changes after clicking on Apply. When I go into backgrounds I can no longer use the drop down box to choose a background as it is unhighlited. When I shutdown XP the image that I originally had on the desktop appears briefly befor the computer turns off. Any problem solving techniques for this would be greatly appreciated.

removing "Desktop Manager" desktop toolbar
by Guest Jeff@unknown.com- 0 replies

Those who have foolishly installed the Powertoy "Microsoft Virtual Desktop Manager" - as I did - soon discover that when they uninstall it, it does not uninstall fully and leaves debris all over. One of the peskiest ones to get rid of is the Taskbar toolbar which continues to show "Desktop Manager" even after that toolbar is no longer functional! Kelly (great guy) has now created a reg file to remove that toolbar. The XP Tweak is found at http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm # 401 right side. Thank you Kelly! Another way to get rid of "Microsoft Virtual Desktop Manager" is to Restore to before it was installed rather than try to uninstall…

Het verschil tussen MSN-e-mail en hotmail ...
by Guest Harpij- 1 reply

printer drivers for different platforms
by Guest dstin- 5 replies

I have a Dell desktop machine running Windows XP with a Dell printer attached via USB. I have a Toshiba laptop running Vista with a built-in wireless network card. My modem is DSL, connected to the desktop via ethernet cable. I want to be able to print from the laptop to the printer wirelessly. My wireless internet connection works great. I have printer sharing turned on, and I can see the Dell printer and Shared Files folder, and can even save to the Shared folder, but I can't get anything to just print from the laptop. Do I need to install the Vista version of the Dell printer driver on the XP machine in order to make this work? Is it possible to have t…

running a vbs script
by Guest Jeff@unknown.com- 11 replies

One of Kelly's Korner tools (#164 in http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm) is a vbs script. I saved it to my PC, but how do I run in? When I double click it asks me what application to run to use it and I do not know. When I double clicked to run it again nothing happens. If I open it in IE7, I just see the text of the script. Jeff

Latest thinking on SP3?
by Guest Poster Matt- 20 replies

Windows Gurus, What's the latest thinking on SP3? I got advise when it first became available that I should wait a while till the bugs got ironed out and fixes were made for any security flaws. I'll be installing XP SP2 on a new PC this weekend, should I install SP3 from the auto-update at the same time or would this be premature? What about on my -work critical- machine? Thanks guys, you lot know a lot more about the ins-and-outs of the OS than this humble programmer does. :) Cheers.
