:Problem Downloading XP SP3 on Vista Machine.
by Guest Harold A Climer- 2 replies
I want to download XP SP3 and install it on my XP machine at home. However I only have dial- up at home and the SP file is humongous. I will have to re-format my hard drive and re-install Media Center Edition because of some glitches, so I want the whole 550+ MB_ file. I have a Vista machine at work, so I thought I would download it there because I have T1 connection. However when I go to the download page for XP SP3 the download button does not appear on the page. It is not grayed out it is just not there. When I go to the same page on my computer at home the download button is just where it is supposed to be. What gives? Is there a direct link where I ca…

E-mail username & p/w had to be reentered after XP SP3 installed
by Guest Michael T.- 10 replies

Last night I installed XP Service Pack 3 (SP3). But when I launched Outlook Express I got an error message (within a dialog box) when OE tried to connect to my mail server. The message said, "Please enter your user name and password for the following server: pop.west.cox.net". Note: This is the common error you get whenever your password or user name is incorrect in the SERVER tab for your e-mail account properties. I reentered the exact same "User Name" and "Password" that was already in the two edit boxes for this dialog box. After that I could read e-mail OK. Please note that this little anomaly seems to be ISP dependent. I have two ISPs and I…

Not sure where to post this question...please move it there is a better place for it. I post alot of questions to many different MS forums and newsgroups (I am a developer). When someone responds, i get an email like this: "A Microsoft Community member has responded to your question entitled "ASP net version" . Please read the response and indicate whether it answered your question or not. By rating a post as an answer, you help others find the answer more quickly, you give the person who posted the answer credit for their contribution, and you help increase the quality of answers in the discussion group. by Guest Matt Schwartz- 0 replies

Hi good people, I have this error in the system event viewer, I am stumped, I have researched this and this seems to be a frequent issue with various fixes, none of which work for me. I am using REGMON and I see that this service is constantly trying to start AND FAIL, sucking up CPU time so actually this is of high priority - does anyone have the TRUE SPECIFIC FIX for this problem? Thank you. It appears to me that this is a REGISTRY problem.

HPIZ plus 450
by Guest OakCliffPeggy- 2 replies
After my motherboard died my hard drive was put into another PC (as a 2nd drive, drive D). I transferred my files from the 2nd (D) drive to the existing C drive. Now, whenever I open a file, I get the message "Please wait while Windows configures HPIZ Plus 450" and indicates that it's trying to download or open something. Then I get a message that it can't, I hit "cancel," and the file opens. It is VERY frustrating to have to x out of two pop boxes every time I want to open a file. I can't find anything on the Microsoft site to tell me what HPIZ Plus 450 is.

XP SP3 Problems/Help 1 2
by Guest Ale- 26 replies

Hi, I just installed SP3 using Windows Update (I had XP SP2 Pro fully updated). Everything went fine, I restarted the PC and apparently everything fine after the desktop showed up (no error messages, etc). But after examining my system I found the following changes: 1) The address bar is removed in the main taskbar, so I tried Right clicking on the taskbar > Toolbars> but notice that the Address option has been removed in SP3. Any way to restore it? 2) Old Windows Messenger was reinstalled, so I uninstalled it. 3) Each time I try to open MSN Messenger an install window opens displaying that MSN Messenger is being restored, so I cancel the process and …

Rules of Conduct for the Microsoft MVP's
by Guest dieHard- 13 replies
For all you MVP's & "wannabes" in training, here's a few basic rules: 1) If a poster is having hardware trouble, always respond with "It's YOUR fault, you should have done you HOMEWORK", regardless of the actual problem. In fact, reading the entire post isn't even necessary. - example: "So what if your new $500 "Vista Certified" video card has no drivers? We never said it would work right NOW, we meant it MIGHT work LATER." BTW, "Homework" = "Upgrade Advisor", yea, we know it's seriously flawed, but who cares? We get to laugh at & ridicule those stupid enough to have trusted it in the first place. It's a "win-win" situation for us if ever there was o…

NTFS Hardlink to UNC Path
by Guest Kristian Oye- 1 reply

I worked as a peon at Microsoft for a couple of years and I *swear* I remember a utility (I thought it was called XLINK32 or something) that allowed you to create an NTFS hardlink to a remote UNC path. Is there a way to create a link to a remote file so that it appears to be local on a machine? e.g. D:\ftpserver\userfs\username\latestdata.zip -> \\backupserver\backups \username\data20080514.zip Thanks in advance! -Kristian Oye

BartPE won't boot from CD-ROM anymore
by Guest BlackBart- 4 replies
Hi. I used to start BartPE from CD-ROM since months. It worked fine up to a fortnight ago (last boot). Today it won't. Instead, after the message that setup checks the hardware, the harddrive LED lights up permanently and nothing else happens. Only a restart gets me out of this. There are three SATA-I harddrives installed: one (Maxtor 300GB) with Windows XP Pro and SuSe Linux, the other two (Maxtor 300GB, Hitachi 320GB) containing only user data on NTFS. When I unplug the first drive with the Windows and Linux systems from the motherboard (Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, the nvidia sothbridge connectors) BartPE boots faultlessly. From this I derive the fault to b…

XP SP3 Dowload Stopped, system will not Boot
by Guest Bill- 3 replies

During the install of SP3 about after 1/2 hour of installing files, message appeared saying acess denied. The system then started to remove files installed but never seemed to complete this phase when the system stried to restart. System does not boot up past black scrren with xp logo. Opened in safe mode twice and used system restore for the two most recent set points. Each system restore took about 15 to 30 min to restore files but system is still dead in the water and will not boot up. Help Please!!! What options do I have besides a system recovery???
