Converting files for Windows Mobile
by Guest JR- 0 replies

Hia folks I'm looking for software to convert video files (AVI, DIVx, etc) for Windows Mobile format. Can anyone recomend one? Preferably cheap? I've tested a few, but they all have 1 problem: I can't rotate the movie from vertical to horizontal display... and I *know* this is possible, for I saw it once on a PDA... Any advice is appreciated. Cheers

Lost System Restore 1 2
by Guest Ben Stevenson- 28 replies

On my regular virus scan (Avast) check yesterday there was a virus or two, which were moved to virus chest as directed. This is not uncommon. It has happened before and no other problems were seen with the computer system. But today I could not access my WORD files. The pop-ups tell me that WORD is not present and asks me to install it again.. Went to System Restore but for whatever date I tried several times to the beginning of this month, it repeatedly says that my system cannot be restored. I need help. TIA

I don't know if I'm hitting the right group, if not can somebody tell me which group to post in. I need to use Eseutil utility from Microsoft Exchange sever to copy a large folder(120 gig). Eseutil does not accept * character, therefore I need to use it in a " for ..... in" DOS command. the root folder to copy from contains subfolders and files and the subfolder too contains subfolders and files. (each subfolder contains multi level of subfolders and files with different extensions) I need to use something as the following : myRootFolder> for /R %I in (.) do for /D %K in ("%I") do mkdir %K for /F %G in (dir %K /A:-D /B) do Eseuti…

xp slow dos compress pkzip
by Guest HarryHydro- 3 replies

Hi Folks: Not a question here, just observations. We have an IBM running as a station monitor that runs software that saves log files; about 86 megs a day. It ran out of hard drive the other day. About time I guess.. I tried sending these to compress. Well, fist I could only do 1 file, because there was very limited hard drive. But, after 1, then 2, then 4, etc., and deleting the original files, I could 'compress' about a month's worth of files in a clip. I couldn't 'compress' 2 months, no matter how much free hard drive I had. Using 'compress' I could only do a month at a time. It took about 16 seconds a file (86 megs) and compressed very tight! A who…

This system, WinXP home SP2, failed to boot, didn't even get up to windows loading, unable to get to safe mode IPL. After a repair install which went fine the system will not install any of the 93 outstanding updates. I use custom & choose "Review and install other updates If you do not install Windows XP Service Pack 3 (KB936929), other updates might still apply to your computer. " There is no error code given. they show 0 size and a disclaimer that the update is downloaded & if I select it will finish installing, which it does not do when selected. I have turned off virus scanning and used the Windows update trouble shooting to no avail. The system…

Windows XP SP3 removed username from CTRL+ALT+DEL
by Guest mcrites- 2 replies
Hi, I have installed Windows XP SP3 on all my client Windows XP workstations through WSUS. When a user locks his workstation using CTRL+ALT+DEL and tries to unlock the workstation, their username is blank. Before SP3 the username was there and the user only had to type their password. Is there any way to get this back? Also their username is not displayed in the lock dialogue box. It shows no username at all. Thanks for any help.

Parser message??
by Guest C.D. Koger- 5 replies
After installing WinXP on my new AMD Athlon dual core, the control panel function Add/Remove software doesn't work. It produces a small window named Parser Message that says 'Value creation failed " at line 451'. No further explanation given, just OK, after which the message disappeares. The system further seems to work fine, except for the DVD drive that sometimes is not accessible, but that also happened under win98.

sp3 and ftp command line
by Guest Bryan Z- 5 replies
I just installed XP sp3 on a computer within our domain. Now, ftp from a command line does not work. It connects, you can login, you can change directories, you can rename and even delete files. But, if you try ls, dir, get, or send, those commands timeout. After those commands timeout, the connection remains open and you can still do the previous commands listed, but not get, send,ls,dir. Just as a test, I opened the ftp site from within IE and it works fine in there, I can copy and paste, rename, delete files. Windows Firewall and ICS are both disabled. Last Friday, I installed sp3 on my own workstation, and I do not have any of these same proble…

Text in ASP Scripts Hidden From Windows Search
by Guest Perrinwolf- 1 reply
Found some interesting behavior in Windows Search (Start => Search => All files and folders => search for "A word or phrase in the file:"). This applies to XP and maybe other Windows flavors. Procedure: 1. Create a simple text file named test.txt. 2. Open the text file in a text editor and add a simple test word such as "blah" (not quotes). 3. Save the text file. 4. Using Windows search, attempt to locate this new text file by searching for files containing the word "blah" (no quotes). Recommend limiting search to folder that contains the new text file and deselect search subfolders option. 5. The file should be found. 6. Change the file exte…

Windows Update SP3 -- blind install ? ? ?
by Guest BeeGee- 5 replies
Hi, Prior to MS releasing SP3, I had all updates thru and or including SP2, for Windows XP Home Edition, with the exception of IE7, OE7, MP11 and all of the Malicious Tools - all of which I disabled and remain in the online "hidden updates" folder. I want to initiate the SP3 update, however the specific updates are all hidden so I cannot determine which updates are necessary versus which updates MS may try to install that I previously disabled to the online "hidden updates" folder. In short, I am concerned that MS will install IE7, OE7, MP11 and all of the Malicious Tools - programs that have absolutely ZERO INTEREST to me at this time. Does an…

Is there SP2 or SP3 in my computer?
by Guest Roland- 20 replies
Hello, I did not intend to install SP3 for a while cause SP2 was just fine. However a message pop up asking me to install Mediaplayer 11. I answered yes. After sometime I got another message telling me that installation was not possible because of a file. I aborted the installation and rebooted. Everything seems to be okay. But Oh surprise MyComputer properties show SP3.v.3264 How comes? What is weird is that SP2 vanished and there is no SP3 at Add or Remove Programs. The question is Do I have a full SP3 or just a partial SP3 installation? How could I verify? How could I rollback? Thank you.
