by Guest New Life Auto- 6 replies

hello, I have had this problem for years now on my computer. Now I really want to solve this mystery of my recycle bin! lol. My problem is that any file i delete does not go to my recycle bin. When I click on my recycle bin, it goes into the bin, but no files are in there. I have checked properties and the "do not move files to the recycle bin" is not checked. The" display delete confirmation dialog" is checked. Also, the maximum size of recycle bin is at 100%. I never get an error when i delete anything, the file gets deleted, but I would like it to go to the recycle bin. I am using windows xp. If anybody can help with my question , i would re…

Hello,,,, I have developed a problem with my dual boot system. I have win98 and xp,, win98 being on the c: drive, and xp on the d drive. I switched to xp today after a reboot, all seemed okay as it went through the normal motions, then it produced a screen as if xp had been installed for the first time;; then just ceased up. I havent used xp a great deal, and it doesnt have access to the internet. When I open win' explorer, (via booting back to win98) it shows my D: drive with all of the things that are loaded into xp, including all new folders and stuff that I created last time I was there. (oh, xp was loaded on using fat32, and has been that way for over …

"The memory could not be 'written'"
by Guest Rick- 1 reply

What are some of the things that could cause a "memory could not be written" error ("The instruction at 0xxxxxx referenced memory at 0yyyyyy") rather than the standard GPF-style application crash ("xxxxxxxx" has encountered a problem and needs to close")? Thanks.

speeding up NetBIOS name registration?
by Guest yawnmoth- 0 replies
Say I have two computers - computerA and computerB (those are their NetBIOS names). If I turn computerA on and try to ping computerA from computerB immediately, it won't work. If I do it 5-10 minutes after I've turned it on, however, it does. This suggests that it takes a bit of time for computerA's name to be registered with computerB. Is there any way to speed this up? I could, I think, modify the LMHOSTS file, but the computer on which I'd be doing this uses DHCP. There's no guarantee it'll have the same IP address one day that it'll have the next day.

SP3 and domain problem
by Guest Jamo- 4 replies

Sorry if this isn't the correct place for this but I could not find an appropriate group. I have splipstreamed SP3 and installed on new machines. After installing all programs I joined the domain. The first few logins are fine then I get domain not found when trying to log in. My only solution so far is to remove the machine from the domain and rejoin. This has happened on all 5 machines I have done so far. Since this mysteriously happened after original successful logins to the domain, I am worried that it might resurface down the road. The domain controller is Windows 2003. The machines are new Lenovos, core2duo 2.33 with 2 gigs ram and Intel boa…

Whenever I use the "Search" function it keeps crashing. Here's what I get: Window Title: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtime Error! Program: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information. When I click "OK", the Search windows goes away. Now, this didn't start happening until I had contacted Microsoft support after automatic updates said that update KB944338 keeps failing to install. The support person replied: "This issue is most likely caused by the incorrect file version of Jscript.dll and Vbscript.dll. To troubleshoot …

Task Scheduler
by Guest Mark- 7 replies

Is there a way to set up a task so that it runs once a day? I set up a task to run at 6:00 A.M. daily, but if I'm not using the computer at that time the task doesn't run when I do turn the computer on. In Vista there's an option to run the task as soon as possible if a scheduled start is missed. Thanks Mark

Trying to sort out fresh re-install of XP Pro
by Guest Ed from AZ- 1 reply

I pruchased two used Dell Latitude 600 laptops (one was for my daughter). Both should have the same configuration, according to the dealer. A "restore" CD reinstalled a fresh copy of XP Pro on both machines (both came with separate COA stickers on the machines). I am not familiar with setting up XP Pro, though I use it every day on my work computer. There, I'm only a limited user - at home, I want to be Admin on my own machine. But there seems to be some things I need to sort out. I tried to install BelArc Advisor on my machine, but it wouldn't run. My daughter, though, installed it and ran it just fine. She showed me her results, and there was a page-lo…

Security issues with windows
by Guest CathyZ- 1 reply

I think my system is seriously compromised. With IE, the home page is listed as thecoolpics.net and I cannot change it because the home page box is all grayed out and I cannot get into it. I also tried to go into regedit, and the error message comes up that "registry editing has been disabled by the administrator", yet there is only one user on the system, and therefore has administrator rights. I downloaded subinacl.exe and tried to use it, but it briefly shows up on the screen and closes. I did an online scan with trendmicro/housecall, while it found some cookies/grayware/spyware, which were deleted, I am still having the problems with IE, regedit a…

My thumb drive (or Samsung MP3 player) stores some important data I can no longer retrieve. Windows OS detects the plugged-in drive but when I click on assigned letter, the error is: E: is not accessible. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error It happened after I plugged it into somebody's MAC, created a new folder and copied some content in there. However, I never had problems using the thumb drive with my own MAC. Anyway, I do not want to format it and Fix Errors did not work. What should I do now? Please recommend. I need to somehow get that data. Thanks PS Somebody recommended me to force mount my drive on a Linux machin…

I have installed windows xp on c: drive. I cannot see any folder on this drive because all of them are hidden. I have checked tools>view >folder options, everything is normal there. I can access all these files by typing their address in address bar( e.g c:/program files) . Whenever I create a new folder in c: drive, it hides automatically as well. All other drives are working fine.

installing a sound blaster audigy card to pci slot (I tried more than one slot) when loading the drivers windows tells me they are not digitally signed...dxdiag says they are and so do the properties pages..however in device manager exclamation mark and code 39 error...ie "cannot load the device driver for this hardware the driver may be corrupted..missing etc." I also noted that all restore points up to this install are no longer there....I suspect a registry fix but what? I saw a fix for a similar code 39 problem on some microsoft pages but it was dealing with a cd/dvd player and involved a registry fix.... any help gratefully received -- jph

USB device not displaying on My Computer
by Guest Tonny- 1 reply

I use various devices through my usb drive (external HD, digital camera, cell phone) and they all show an icon on the bottom right task bar when I connect them and then usually pop open a window asking what I want to do with the drive. I recently bought a usb SATA HDD docking station so I can easily connect internal drives to my computer. The first time I used the drive, it recognized the new external device trying to connect and eventually revealed the new hard drive with its letter in My Computer. It is pretty slow trying to open files off the drive and exploring the drive has frozen explorer a few times. Now when I connect it, I get the soundbyte that s…

Hello, My XP PC is taking too long to boot. I suspect I have a problem with USB stuff, but I do not have to solve the problem. When I disconnect all USB devices, the PC books fine, otherwise it takes about 5 minutes, where I get a totally black screen. Please let me know how I may solve this issue. Thanks. T.I.
