Post SP3 Mystery CMD Window
by Guest John J. Jobst- 6 replies
After installing SP3 I now have a mysterious CMD window appear whenever I login. It flashes by so quickly that I can't see if there is anything in it. I've used SysInternals AutoRuns and the only thing I can guess at is Office Genuine Advantage. But that was there pre-SP3 and produced no CMD window. Any ideas? Thanks.

Aloha all. I don't know if this is really an OS question, so it may be OT, but I don't know what it is. Maybe someone can help, or at least point me in the right direction? I bought a digital picture frame. I wanted to load a bunch of pics onto an SD card. I used a 1GB SD card, and tried to load about 300MB. At 216 it stopped and said the card was full. It's not. I then tried a 512MB card. Same thing! I then tried a 1GB USB Flash Drive. Same thing! I then tried both a 4GB USB Flash and SD card. Both did the complete load fine. Why do the 1GB and under state they are full at only 216MB? I even reformatted the cards several time with no effect. Can anyone he…

Folder named "My Computer's" Documents
by Guest Katy- 2 replies
When I choose "my computer" from the start menu, the items listed are the drives (a, d, c), a folder named "shared documents", and a folder named "my computer's documents". I can't seem to figure out why I have the "my computer's documents" folder as it contains the same documents as in C:documents and settings:my computer:my documents. Is it supposed to be there and does that mean there are duplicates of every document on my machine? (I am the only user.) Thanks for any help!

Hi, This is a repost. The original post received no replies. I'm ready to throw this computer in the trash. PLEASE help!!... I am running Windows XP on my laptop, and I have a couple of cards that I use for internet. One is a Motorola wireless adapter (because the computer does not have built in wireless), and the other is a Verizon Air Card (for mobile internet). The problem I'm having is that I have to keep reinstalling these cards (using the driver discs) almost every time I switch from one to the other. I never had this problem before. I just wiped out and reloaded (with the stock restore disc), and it has not helped. I have also had prob…

Trouble with internet connect after SP3?
by Guest DTrider- 4 replies
The only way that I can connect to the internet is to shutdown my ZoneAlarm firewall and then start up my Win XP firewall. This lets me connect and then I can turn on the ZoneAlarm firewall again and shut down my Windows firewall. I can then connect to the ISP with ZA activated. However, when I reboot, I must go through this again. It seems that this started after my SP3 installation. ( which went smoothly) I removed the ZoneAlarm program and re-installed latest ZA with same results. Help is needed and appreciated. Thank you, Don

by Guest John- 6 replies

A couple days ago, there was a notice in the tray that "Updates are available for your computer" and when I clicked on it I found that SP3 was being offered. I decided not to install it yet, I'd do it over the weekend (I have WU configured for "Notify but don't automatically install"). Now the update notice is gone. This happened on both my computers. Has anybody else had this happen? Anybody know why? Reply-to address is real John

by Guest RJK- 14 replies

A couple of days ago my 2nd PC, after "resume from hibernation" just sat at the black screen - the one with "Press F8 to delete restoration data", (after the long progress bar had travelled from left to right at the bottom of the screen), and I had to hold the power button in and force it to switch off. Same thing now on my main PC today ! ....so it looks to me like hibernation is now, no longer working properly after SP3 :-) ...or should that be :-( ....I wonder if there'll be a patch soon, to fix what was not broken, and got broken with SP3 ? regards, Richard XP Home ed. on both PC's (legit licenses on both btw) 1st PC Asrock Conroe 865PE/D93…
