I have 56 single file Flash game short cuts in a folder on desktop. After nearly 2 years they have started appearing in data form and take ages to transform into their icon short-cuts created by me. Any idea why this has just started happening? It is also happening in my Spy & Virus folder with all my 10 short-cuts in there! - Thanks - Andy

Using the Settings and File Transfer Wizard
by Guest Jack Gillis- 6 replies
I have read about the Settings and File Transfer wizard for years but there is at least one thing I don't understand that is important to me now that I think I need to use it. I am about to assemble a new computer and want to know how to transfer all,if not most, of the programs installed on the old one to the new one. I feel confident in getting all the files I want in 'Programs Files' from the old one to the new one but can someone tell me how I get their Registry entries or any other required system info over to the new one? The old one has XP Home as probably will the new one. (I might wind up with XP Pro on the new one because I have an unused l…

Are there any standard uninstall utilities in XP?
by Guest Dmitry Bond.- 1 reply

Hi. The problem: 1) application installed from RAR SFX archive - registered some objects, created some shortcuts, etc. 2) it created record in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows \CurrentVersion\Uninstall] with "UninstallString" parameter. Are there any standard uninstall utilities in WinXP to run uninstall for such application? msiexec does not work because there were no MSI package - it installed from SFX archive, not from MSI package. WMIC product where name="..." call uninstall does not work too (by unknwon reason). Questions are: 1) Is there any other way to uninstall it? Any standard tools to simply execute command specified in "Un…

I was wondering - I have had issues with Adobe.. I uninstalled and re-installed, although was difficult to do. My daughter loves the Webkinz site.. when she is on it - certain things call for adobe flash. It gets an error message that"a script in the movie is causing adobe to run slowly. continuing may cause computer to become unresponsive" if I abort - it does not allow access to that area of the website.... if I continue - I have to do so multiple times before it will allow access... Any suggestiions?

Unfortunatly Vista was not up to scratch so I went back to XP I have everything but my audio drivers. I have a HP pavillion Desktop and Hp have no drivers for Win XP. I have tried a few methods given to me and the latest is to install realtek hd audio driver but an error comes up saying bus driver needs to be installed first. The audio is on board but xp tells me there is no audio device. Does anybody have any sugestions? If all else fails would it be better for me to buy a audio card and install that or would i get the same error? Thanks

USB Drivers
by Guest Old Navy- 15 replies

I have Windows XP Pro SP3 on my computer. I also have 3 external drives connected with USB to IDE cables. I used to be able to use these drives with no problem, but I have had to format my HDD and reinstall Windows about 6 times now. These drives are no longer visible in My Computer. When I go to Device Manager it shows the 3 drives with a yellow exclamation point. I have attempted to reinstall these drivers, using my Windows disk, to no avail. The cables came without drivers, stating that Windows had the drivers already. Can anyone help me to install the needed drivers or where I may be able to find them?

I am looking for some assistance regarding my Acer 19" Widesreen monitor. I just bought this wonderful monitor and when I tried to set it to the resolution 1440X900, well, it dosen't exist. My operating system is Windows XP home edition version 2002. I am going to assume that my computer has all the updates. My question is; would this be a video card issue or if this is a computer hard drive issue. Some assistance would be greatly appreciated! -- A~

XP Pro mouse problem.
by Guest Dan- 7 replies

My wife has a Lenovo laptop, running XP pro, which she uses with a "desktop" corded keyboard & mouse when she works in her office. Both are PS/2 devices, connected with this adapter to a USB port: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812101117 Whenever the laptop goes to sleep, the corded mouse ceases to function unless she reboots. Both keyboards continue to function, as does the touchpad mouse on the laptop; only the corded mouse gives up the ghost. A previous cordless USB mouse (now lost) had no such difficulties. Is there a cure for this? Thanks in advance, Dan

When u run from a) drive's properties with 'no-fix' or b) from restart with 'fix' on where did the MS geek with the coke-bottle peanut butter stained glasses & pocket protector hide the chkdsk results? Ntoskrnl.exe is missing or corrupt
by Guest Lee Ann- 8 replies
Sorry, I'm new to posts. I should have explained my problem better... When I turn on my dell 4500 the computer acts like it is starting, then it goes to a black screen that says: The following file is missing or corrupt: <windows root>system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please reinstall the file. Well, after using F8 I can't do anything. I searched the posts and found one that recommended using the XP disk and going to recovery console and using the expand command and then overwriting. I tried that and it said "Access denied". What now? Thanks for your patience!

I am attempting to transfer my address book from my desk top to my laptop. Both are running Window XP. I am working off of directions 'How to back up and to restore Outlook Express data', that I found on a forum. I have done the 'export to a backup folder' on the desktop. How do I now get that information to the laptop so that I can 'import' that backup folder. -- Dean Colorado Springs

failure to log on
by Guest Nurmi- 4 replies
On booting I am informed on the screen: "The system could not log on. User name and domain name are correct. Then Type your password again!" I have complied. Failure to sign on. I have changed my password. Nil effect. I have deleted my password and name. Left is the administrator log on. Nil effect. It's a nuisance no more, cause by clicking on the message, the next screen shows administrator box and clicking on it boots-up the PC. I would like to solve the problem though. Thanks! -- Nurmi
