Does anyone know how to make IExpress store files with their original modification dates? I need them stored with their original modification dates (like most compression programs do). Is this possible?

Unable to start software
by Guest rwmol- 6 replies

I installed a new software. When I open it, the splash screen appears and immediately closes. Nothing after that. I had the same issue when I tried to install. The installer (WinDev) would start for a second, then close. I ended up installing it in Safe Mode. All went well there. This is a video conversion software. I uninstalled all similar programs and codecs and still have the same issue. I've been using Windows XP Pro since it's release and have install all types of software without a problem. I'm stumped. Any ideas? Thanks

Just a little info. Be careful of today's Microsoft Updates on machines that are using Zone Alarm Free ( Version 7.0.462 ) after rebooting the Zone Alarm client will block almost every web access with an alert. Still investigating and trying the newer 7.0.473 version to see if it will rectify the situation.

by Guest Don- 6 replies

Hi, I am running Windows XP, Version 2002 SP2 on a Compaq nc6220 with 2GB of RAM. I frequently encounter situations whereby the laptop 'freezes', apps do not respond, internal fan appears (certainly sounds as if its) 'maxed-out'. At this point if I go the Task Mgr, I discover a process called Svchost.exe is consuming > 90% of CPU resources?? What is this process? What does it do? And is this normal? It cetainly does not appear normal and is incredibly frustrating .... This 'state' can continue for anything up to 3 - 4 mins when it starts (which feels like an eternity when you are waiting for it to stop). Advice greatly appreciated, Don-

I have a computer that gets internet through a wireless connection, router to adapter. Now when it attempts to connect, it gives the error message "not connected" but it is connected. The bright red X is on both network connections icons below but it is connected none the less. When I bring up the network connections window, the adapter is listed as not connected but up above, a new section called shared internet connection appears and that is listed as connected. But I know that there is no connection shared with another computer because the only connection is through the router to the adapter. Nothing computer to computer. Please anyone, what does th…

File Association Broken
by Guest Philip Beaurline- 7 replies

In XP Home, I have an application that runs with a runtime version of Panorama. Recently a problem has cropped up where double clicking on any *.pan file gives the error message "not a valid Win32 application." Right clicking the file to reset the application association does not work. The "recommended application" is "InView" which is the name of the software that should run. The executable file is panorama.exe, however, not Inview.exe, and selecting "panorama.exe" in the dialog does not change the recommended application. I have found and deleted two entries in the Registry, one in Applications that refers to Inview.exe (which is a non-existant file),…

Hello, Using XP Home SP1, have a wired-router b/w cable modem and PC I’m considering switching to the Windows XP Home supplied firewall and a 3rd party AV (free) program. I have been a ZA user (both free and paid versions) and need some advice. I switched to the Windows FW and went to the Shield Up site to see what it says about my PC. All but port 113 was closed, the rest of my PC ports were stealth. How do I close or stealth/hide this port using the Windows FW? Thanks JHL

External drive folder "invisible"
by Guest Churchy LaFemme- 2 replies

Win XP MCE 2005 suddenly is unable to "see" the contents of my music storage folder on a Maxtor external hard drive connected by USB, instead showing the folder in Win Explorer and in My Computer as being empty. Once in a while it shows the contents when I open Win Explorer, but usually not. Running checkdisk doesn't help. Thanks.
