Run scheduled task after starting computer from hibernation mode
by Guest PatrickMail@gmx.de- 4 replies

Hi everybody, I have a question concerning scheduled tasks and hibernation (Win xp). I know that one can schedule tasks to run after system start-up or user logon. However, I wonder whether there is a possibility to let a task automatically run when the system was manually started from hibernation mode. This means, I do not want to wake it up automatically at a given time. Instead, I am looking for a solution similar to the available option 'run task after system start-up' (that only works if the computer has been completely turned off). Can anybody of you help.

Preserve folder dates when using Robocopy
by Guest carina- 0 replies

I am using robocopy to copy folders from a PC to a server. I want to preserve all ACLs & dates. I can preserve all ACLs & file dates using /copyall switch but this does not preserve folder dates. I note from Windows Server 2008 info on Technet that there is a switch, /dcopy:T, to do just this, but this is not available in the Server 2003 version. Is it possible to download the latest version of robocopy without having Server 2008 ? Or does anyone know of a recognised alternative ?

Thunderbird prob may be a Windows prob
by Guest Thunderbird- 9 replies

Some 'experts' in alt.fan.mozilla suggested that I have a Windows problem, not a Thunderbird problem. For that reason, I'm posting my problem in this newsgroup. I've used Thunderbird on a WinXP system happily for years, but after a power outtage Thunderbird has begun closing itself whenever a link within an e-mail is clicked on. (BTW, I was using version 1.5, but in an attempt to fix the problem upgraded to 2.0.0.14. Unfortunately the problem persists. And the only extension is Talkback 2.0.0.9.) Also, if an e-mail has an attachment, such as a JPG file, the mere act of trying to open the e-mail makes Thunderbird close immediately. (Note that this happens so …

I downloaded the SP blocker from Microsoft and ran it. I checked in regedit that it changed the value in the proper place. If I change my mind in the future, do I have to go into Regedit and change that value, or would I run the blocker EXE again, or what? Thanks

by Guest Kimla- 4 replies

Hello, Thank you for your help in this matter. I could not log on to windows 2 days ago. The welcome screen comes up and then I click on my account and it acts like it will log on but then flashes and underneath it says logging off. Anyway, so I read somewhere I need to reinstall windows xp with the cd. I am in that process right now. In BIOS mode it asks for my adm. password and it will not accept it. In system set up mode I checked to see what it was and it said no password selected. So I decided to go ahead and make a password. But that did not work either. I even shut the computer down for a minute and still no. Also, I was told that I woul…

Machines are using XP Pro SP3. There are times when my users will ask me to do something and I use Remote Desktop and do it for them. Is there any way to set up Remote Desktop so they can see what I'm doing? I use VNC for my servers but I rather not install that on all my workstations. Thanks! Phil

Script to delete local user accounts?
by Guest jdbst56@gmail.com- 2 replies

We're running XP Professional with SP2. Is there a script (VB, WSH, etc) that could be used to delete all local accounts on the machine except for the builtin Windows accounts (as well as any ASP.net accounts) and the account of the user who is currently logged in. I know that I could figure out the account of the the currently logged in user by using the %username% environment variable. I was thinking of the Addusers.exe utility in the Server Resource Kit, but I'm not sure that it will work for my needs. What we're trying to eliminate is any users who may have created local "back door" accounts while they were administrators of their PCs. We're about to tak…
