ActiveX
by Guest gaudonville- 1 reply

I'm trying to help out a friend with their computer running XP. When I go to Windows Update it, as usual, attempts to determine the update level and asks to run ActiveX. I click "Run activeX" on the information bar but it seems that either ActiveX is not installed or it's become corrupted in some way. Is it possible to dowload ActiveX and reinstall it? or is there another solution as, at the moment the update page is just taking me round in circles. Thanks

Maximum Power Management Under XP SP2
by Guest Thomas M.- 3 replies

Windows XP SP2 We are currently evaluating Vista for deployment in our environment and we have learned that one of the supposed advantages to Vista is the enhanced power management features when running on a Certified for Windows Vista machine. We would like to test the power management features of Vista and do a comparison to XP SP2. Toward that end we have purchased a Watts Up Pro device to monitor power usage. I am planning to run XP and configure the power management options to save the maximum amount of power. I will then run Vista on the SAME machine and also with the power management options configured to save the maximum amount of power. …

Internet stopped working for no reason
by Guest Dooglius- 2 replies

When I came home, I was getting errors every time a program tried to connect to the internet. They went something like "C:/WINDOWS/system32/mswsock.dll is not a valid Windows image". I downloaded and replaced the file with one from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?mswsock but now I get error 10050 (WSAENETDOWN) every time. Spybot S&D found no problems and AVG is running right now, so I don't think it's a virus. Any suggestions?

by Guest Mr. Low- 0 replies

Hi, Everytime after I scan my PC using Windiw Defender or Norton Internet Security, I would not be able to hibernate my PC. The same thing happens when I download and install new software. The error message is “ The device driver for the ‘Communication Port (COM1) devices is preventing the machine from hibernation. Please close all application and try again. If problem persist, you may need to update the driver.” Usually I coulkd overcome this problem by uninstalling the COM1 driver at the Device Manager and Scan for hardware changes and let the system to reinstall it back. Is there anyway to prevent similar problem from recurring ? Th…

by Guest Moonbarker Osbourne- 1 reply

For a few days now, when I go to shut my comp down after it's been on for a few hours, I see this "shutting down" window that end up looking like what you see in the photo seen below that I took with my camera. I tried doing a start/search/for files or folders/all files and folders for app.b and the only two files found were hlabapp.box and abapp.box in C:\Program Files\AIM6\services\addressBookApp\ver1_1_14_1\content What can I do to fix things so I don't keep getting this at shutdown? http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/jj216/Moonbarker/P1040246.jpg

Ms wants to persuade everyone and mostly companies that somehow now just by magic, vista is a good product and there is no reason to hold back by still using XP, and there is no reason to wait for windows7. Well my prediction is that they will fail so bad it will be hilarious You can trick a few people lots of times, you can also trick a lot of people a few times.. but Sorry Microsoft, you cant trick lots of people lots of times. Vista is dead, no one like its and it doesn't matter how much new $$$ you push into advertising this flop, it will never be trusted, and for good reason. No matter how hard microsoft tries, tricks, lies, and other crap, Vista wil…
