by Guest Jack- 5 replies

I've got these processes on the subject line (task manager). Aren't they really wield? because java.exe and perl.exe don't have to be resident all the time. But those processes are occupying 10M to 100MB of my RAM? Any comments are welcome.. Are they just trojans or viruses? Thanks Jack

http://www.neowin.net/news/main/08/05/30/microsoft-taking-official-petitions-to-keep-xp If you can remember back a few weeks, Steve Ballmer went on record saying that Microsoft would consider extending the life of Windows XP if enough people asked for it. Afterall, many people don't want to upgrade to Windows Vista because they are perfectly content with XP. The problem was there was no way to ask for it. Sure, you could sign one of the many online petitions, but Microsoft considers those "non-official complaints" and the rest of us simply consider them silly. Well, word has been passed down to the tech support teams (and then on to Neowin) that they a…

Speech not working
by Guest Vivek- 1 reply

Hi, Text to speech is not working in my system. I'm using Windows XP SP2 and when I go to Control Panel > Speech and click on "Preview voice" I get the error message: "This voice cannot be played. Please try selecting another voice or selecting a different audio output device." I tried selecting a different audio device but it was no good at all. After a bit of googling I also tried "registering" M:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Speech\sapi.dll and also tried deleting the folder "Documents and Settings\KK\Application Data\Microsoft\Speech\Files\UserLexicons". That did not help either. Does anyone have a solution for this issue? Thanks, Vivek

Can any of you experts out there recommend the best and/or professional software for changing Windows XP hard drive partitions? I've used Partition Magic 8 in the past, Disk crashes while sizing partitions with PM8 are rare, but they do happen. What's the best? What do you experts use?

Been stuck on 'phase two' for about an hour or more, no info whatsoever. If that what I paid £70+ for? I guess you can say that about most of microsofts stuff though. It's either dead slow or doesn't work at all. Dr Watson for example, who kills his patients.

I know this is easy by just right click and click on "Remove From The List" but I was wondering if this can be done via batch command. I saw few on how to remove it but that is using VB scripts. Appreciate if someone can advise me on how to do it using windows batch command. Regards, Shah

Miniscule fonts
by Guest xylophone- 9 replies

I have XP SP3 on a Dell, with Office 2007 Student and Home, and IE7. I can right click on Desktop/Properties to get the Display Properties, from where I can manipulate the specified font and font sizes to my satisfaction, which I have done. However, none of this seems to have any effect on the minuscule font sizes that appear elsewhere and over which, for the life of me, I cannot see how I have any control. For example, the Display Properties box has tiny font sizes, say size 4, Start/Favourites come up in a tiny size, likewise Start/All Programs. Weird. Start on its own comes up in big fonts. I can read the tiny fonts, but they why this behaviour an…
