End Program message when shutting down
by Guest Wish I was diving- 0 replies
Out of the blue I get a 'End Program' message when I try to shut down Windows XP2. If I end the program the computer shuts down and no harm seems to be done. The message is regarding the rundll32.exe. If I click cancel I get another non-responsive program GDI+ Windows (no idea if that's supposed to be so after not ending rundll by force). What can be done?

Bluetooth Notification Area Icon Disappearing...
by Guest lupo666- 0 replies
Hi, I have a Trust Bluetooth dongle, which works perfectly. I use it to connect a Logitech Laser Mouse and an LG L600V, the latter thru its own software. Never had a problem. Lately, the bluetooth icon which used to sit in the system tray (notification area) is gone. I have checked the registry and the relative key is set to 1. If I open bluetooth thru the control panel, I uncheck > apply > check > apply, the icon reappears and works perfectly, until the next restart, where it's gone again... Considering: - SSPD Discovery Service is Disabled - UPNP Service is Disabled - Registry Key is set to 1 Any suggestions? Regards, Lupo

Starting MS mouse Magnify function via keyboard
by Guest skydiver- 4 replies
Hello folks, I have a MS optical mouse 2000 and use the MS Intelipoint software. My favorite function is the magnify function, and I have assigned the middle button click to invoke it. I'm pretty happy with this feature, but I wish I could in some way start this functionality using a keyboard shortcut, so I could be able to use the middle button click for something else. I use AutoHotKey to create some scripts here and if I could find a way to start this functionality in a command-line way, so I could write a script to bring it up every time I used CTRL + middle click. I found out that when the Magnify function is active it show up the Magnify.ex…

Hi Every Friday I back up all our company info to DVDs. About half the time I get the BSOD with several different explanation from MS. I am using XP pro SP2. Some of the Event IDs I get are ID 8003 51 7036 4321 1003. I research each and apply the recommended fix and yet it still happens. It only happens when I am burning DVDs. Any suggestions besides throwing it out the window? Thanks very much. -- Message posted via WindowsKB.com http://www.windowskb.com/Uwe/Forums.aspx/windowsxp/200806/1

Can any type of cleanup be done after installing Windows XP SP3?
by Guest Richard A. Landkamer- 10 replies

I installed Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) back on May 10, 2008. I was hoping that this installation process would automatically remove all of the "C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB------$" and a few other Uninstall Folders that were applied during the life of the previous Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), and which have now become obsolete with Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3). Unfortunately, this did not happen. I vaguely recall that when I installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) back in August, 2004, all of the then previous Uninstall Folders were automatically deleted. As an extreme example, I did a search for urlmon.dll, which has been frequently updated with Microsof…

Keeping background process in the Background - why is this so hard
by Guest bpotratz- 1 reply
My single biggest frustration with MS product is the inability of XP to keep minimized processes (particularly IE) minimized. If I have another application on top - say, Outlook - that its the application I want to see, I don't want another application that I sent to the task bar interrupting my work. I gave it a task to do and I want it to do it and wait for ME to check on it - not mop up and inerupt what I am doing. I thought that was what multitasking was all about. How do I keep minimized programs from reasserting themselves?

Removing McAfee Security Centre files
by Guest Smirnoff- 2 replies

My friend is running XP Pro on an HP Compaq and am trying to help him solve a problem. It appears he has attempted to remove McAfee but still has firewall prompts etc. Have checked in Add/Remove but it wont let me uninstall. Is it best to reinstall the program and then to uninstall it correctly or is there a free utility to do this online?
