I have a Microsoft wireless keyboard with a PrtScn key but I can not get the print screen function to work regardless if I use the key by itself or with the shift, control, start, or alt keys. It is a useful feature I use frequently at work but I can not get it to work on my home system. Suggestions? Thanks -- jj

SFC looking for CD in wrong place?
by Guest Kenny- 4 replies
Using XP Pro/SP3. Had this before but can't remember how to get round it. Trying to run SFC it looks for XP CD but can't find it. Tried original XP, XP/SP1, XP/SP2, and XP/SP3 discs. My optical drives are Y & Z and I remember previously changing something so SFC will look for the disc in one of these rather than D. Can someone please tell me how to do this. -- Kenny Cargill

Unwanted sounds
by Guest JohnG- 2 replies

I have Windows XP SP3 on a basic Intel core2 duo system and have sounds that I can't turn off. Whenever I scroll up and down through a window, regardless of the application, I get a small background noise through my speakers, like a chirping or squeeking. This also happens when I drag a Window around the screen, although at a different frequency and sounds more like shuffling a deck of cards. This happens whether I scroll with the mouse or the keyboard (both USB). I have ALL sounds turned off through Control Panel, so there shouldn't be any sounds at all. I have tried bypassing the USB hub and pluged the mouse directly into the PC, but that made no di…

Hello,I have noticed that, trying to play videos from YouTube, quite a few will not play in IE6 but they will in Firefox3! As I prefer to use IE6,I am wondering why this is so,I have all the latest updates, and I suspect I need some Add-On but I have not been able to identify the cause of this,I even went to the MS Add-Ons page but I found nothing I could use. Any ideas appreciated! Thanks and regards from Vancouver,Canada Alberto My computer:Dell,Pentium4,1.35 Gb RAM,WinXP Home Edition, high speed internet connection

MCE 2005 Long time to boot
by Guest AT and HMB- 2 replies

One of my systems is taking ages to boot, while and identical system gives no problems. Is there any way I can get Windows Task Manager to show the the Applications that are running. All I can see are the processes. During the boot situation the Applications column is always blank. If I could see the Applications it would be so much easier to delete etc. Thanks. PS I use free AVG 8 and ZoneAlarm and these always seem to be slow. Incidentally, the Windows firewall system ALWAYS suggests I have neither virus checker nor firewall.

Dont know what went wrong. Thanks awaiting for a response.

Bootvis 'Optimize System' Restart
by Guest bonapardo- 6 replies

Hi, I have had the following issue with my PC for about a year… During startup, Windows often takes a long time to leave the XP splash (or logo) screen before kicking in to the welcome screen. I’m not too bothered about slow load times in themselves – my PC is not the newest and it is to be expected. Sometimes however, the computer loads fine – the splash screen is up for a short period before Windows proper kicks in. It tends to go through periods of loading slowly, occasionally being okay if restarted – mostly not though. Around a year ago, I found that whenever the machine had loaded slowly, the frame rate when playing DirectX games was seriousl…
