hi! this is my pc configuration: - motherboard: asus p5e3 deluxe - hd1: raptor 72gb - hd2: segate 500gb 32mb - hd3: segate 500gb 32mb All hd are on the same sata controller. Xp is installed on hd1 in ahci mode, the other hd2 & hd3 have only data and no raid. I'd like now to convert my configurazion in raid, using hd2 and hd3 in raid1 and leaving hd1 where the system is installed in ahci mode. is this possible or i have to reinstall the system on hd1 with no ahci? I set the mainboard sata controller in raid, i do not configure any raid0 or 1, the system started then i get a blue screen... my english is not so good so i hope someone understa…

Install XP on blank partition on Vista machine
by Guest Derek Harvey- 7 replies

Hi Folks, Can anyone help with this, please? I have read various help files on setting up a dual boot with XP installed into a separate partition on a system with Vista pre-installed. The system is a Medion system with SCSI internals, 3Gb RAM and Intel Quad processor. Not sure what details are relevant to this problem . I have created a blank partition using Paragon Hard Disk Manager, formatted NTFS version 3.01 (as it was). I have not re-formatted it, perhaps I should. I hide the Vista partition and make it Inactive and the new one active. Now try booting from XP Pro (OEM) CD: I am NOT offered a choice of partition but I assume it is the now only active p…

Hibernation not working even with SP3
by Guest Edward- 3 replies

When trying to hibernate, about 50% of the time I get the classic error "Insufficient resources to complete the API" after upgrading from 2GB to 4GB of RAM. The whole 4GB isn't even accessible (only 3.25GB) and I thought this issue was fixed long ago by hotfixes 330909 (included in SP2) and 909095 (included in SP3). The comments on 909095 suggest that Microsoft can't be bothered to fix the problem properly - "Note It is still possible to experience a hibernation problem after you install this fix if the memory becomes highly fragmented. The speed at which this problem manifests is dependent on the software that you run and your particular usage mo…

Cannot Boot Recovery Console Windows XP
by Guest Will- 10 replies

Starting today I turn on a Windows XP Media Center home computer and I get a message that it cannot boot because "<Windows Root>\system32\hal.dll" is missing. At first I thought I had a simple disk error recoverable by CHKDSK, so I booted recovery console and ran CHKDSK /R, which corrected unspecified errors on the disk. Rebooting I get the same error. I then noticed that when I go to recovery console there is no prompt for administrator password. I tried the LOGON command with no arguments and it simply returns the recovery console boot prompt. All attempts to change into a folder on the boot volume get "Access is Denied" So NTFS keeps me lock…

Win XP hanging when I go to "My Computer"
by Guest Susan Trott- 1 reply

Our XP workstation running SP 2 has started slowing significantly since the last update. Today it hangs when we go to My Computer, but it doesn't when I launch other software. Last week it started having difficulty with 51% memory usage and I was unable to determine what was taking up the memory. We have 4GB memory on the system, running a 500GB OS drive on a P4 Duo Core 2 system. This workstation serves as our peer-to-peer file server and has three data drives all 500 GB as well as an outboard 500GB Maxtor drive for backups. We have had a number of problems with this machine - including hard drive suddenly failing for no reason. Could all this be related? …

Rebooting when playing mod-MPEG or DV files
by Guest TheMooseArmy- 1 reply

I’ve recently had problems with accessing DV and/or probably MPEG-Files (The special .mod format used by JVC DVD-Camcorders) either by Windows, or by Vegas 8. When I’m loading my project file with Vegas, it will freeze and then immediately reboot when it is accessing the video files (only DV files, but there are MPEG-files in the same folder; I’ve had problems working with those before). The reboot cannot be prevented. If I had opened the folder with Windows Explorer, it did the same – freeze and restart. Just after de-Installing MainConcept DV Codec, I could go and see the files; but trying to play one would result in a restart again. Then I installe…

Help! Earthlink Uninstall Killed Dial-Up Communication
by Guest C. Collings- 6 replies

My mother is running a Dell PC with Windows MCE 2005 w/ IE 6. Shortly after buying her this new machine, her ISP of 6 years was sold to Earthlink. Consequently, her 1-yr prepaid internet service went with it. When her prepaid service was about to expire, I set her up with service from PeoplePC. The Earthlink and PeoplePC software kept fighting for control, so I disable all of the Earthlink software from executing -- problem solved. So, a few months later, the PeoplePC homepage occasionally doesn't load properly - too much scripting I think. She calls me PeoplePC for Tech support rather me (default Tech support). PeoplePC tells here she must hav…

Trouble with Sizing of Everything.
by Guest Lauren- 2 replies
I just started having trouble with the size of all the icons, toolbars, windows, etc. on my computer. I restarted my computer one day because I had installed updates and had to, and then when I logged in, all of a sudden, the screen went blank, and everything, other than the background, got way smaller. The screen resolution and background remain exactly the same, though. I tried turning off and then turning on my computer again, but it didn't work. The login screen has the same problem, too. How do I fix this?

netman.dll in svchost.exe 1356 using up CPU
by Guest J- 0 replies

I did a "repair" of Windows XP Pro and then downloaded SP3. I then noticed my CPU's at 100% every 15 to 30 seconds for about 4 seconds. I downloaded Process Explorer and found that it was occuring within svchost.exe. I then went to Services and began stopping/pausing the Services while watching the effect on the CPU usage. When I stopped Network Connections (Netman, c:windows/system32/netman.dll), it stopped the CPU usage spikes. I'm worried about what this will affect by stopping this service. I do use a wireless network when at home and file and print share. Will this be affected? Can someone recommend a better fix or explain why this was causing …
