Hi All, I have switched my computer on this morning and when i load my profile or any of my families profile the machine reboots itself after around 10 seconds. It only happens when i load the profiles. I have attempted to start the machine in Safemode to attempt to complete a virus scan but i cannot seem to find the virus software when in Safemode. I suspect that a virus is causing this but dont know which or how to remove. I have a P4, XP-SP2 machine. Can anyone offer any advise as to what might be causing this problem. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Regards. -- Flinty

Normally they can be closed out but occasionally I have to reboot to get rid of them. The computer seems to function okay otherwise. I have an XP PRO operating system.

Quick Launch icons disappearing
by Guest Not4U2Know- 5 replies
Lately, I've noticed two weird things regarding my Quick Launch toolbar. I'm using XP Pro SP3. 1. Sometimes the icons are visible but clicking on them produces no action. I have to go to the Start>Programs menu and launch the program from there. Rebooting solves that problem. 2. Most annoying problem now: icons completely disappear from Quick Launch. Hovering over the Quick Launch bar, however, shows the shadow of an icon and a tooltip stating what it's for but clicking on it does nothing. This is quite annoying. Again, a restart of my computer fixes this too. Are these known issues, and if so, how can I fix them, please?

Hi friends, I mostly face problems while looking for the contact details of the products or the services that I need. It sometimes becomes difficult to make contact for the purchasing of the required products or allotment of the required services. Without contact details, it takes time to search and becomes difficult to get those, so if anyone knows about any of such guide which provides complete information about the products and services, then please let me know. -- docal

STATIC in WLM conversation
by Guest Shirleyaust- 3 replies

I am have vista home edition on my computer and built in microphone, until recently my friend (in USA) and myself (in Australia) could have clear conversations. Recently after about 10 minutes into the conversation at the USA end which is a computer with XP, he gets an unbearable loud static noise, necessitating him to have to turn his speakers down, whilst he can still talk and I get a reasonably clear conversation from him, I have taken up to typing my response due to the static. If we terminate the conversation and I ask him for a new conversation, the static remains...occasionally we can get a few minutes static free the second time....what could be …

problem installing printer
by Guest Person- 2 replies
I recently tried to install an officejet g85 'all in one' printer on my laptop that has windows xp. - setup was completed. Then tried to install it on another laptop that has vista on it. Seemed to install ok but, couldn't get it to print. Uninstalled using the 'remove programs' option. This appeared to work. Then I tried to re-install but a message came up saying that it was already installed and that I'd have to use the un-install program to delete it. Checked and it was removed. Can't seem to figure out why I'm getting this message. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it. Thanks Des --

Uninstalling ATI Display Drivers hosed my system!
by Guest SRam_z- 2 replies
You see it all the time: "Make sure to update your display drivers to the latest version." So, I did. I have an ASUS (ATI Radeon) HD3850 PCIe display card. I did exactly what it said to do: Go to 'Add or Remove Programs' and click on the "ATI Software Removal Utility" then follow the prompts, restart the system and install the new (latest) drivers. However, when I restarted, I got the Windows starting screen (with the moving bar) and that's it! At the point where I should be looking at the "Welcome" screen - I'm instead looking at a black screen. As though the monitor is turned off. (It isn't, though; the light is green.) There is about 20 more seconds of…

Windows XP looking in wrong directory for desktop background files
by Guest Not4U2Know- 4 replies
I have Win XP Pro XP3, and as a result of trying some changes to fix another issue with the Quick Launch bar, now when I go to change the background image for my desktop (wallpaper), the selections are not coming from C:\WINDOWS as they are supposed to, but from another directory on my PC that contains pictures (.jpg and .gif). It's not even looking for bitmaps. How can I force the OS to look in C:\WINDOWS? I've checked everything in the desktop properties screens/tabs and cannot find anything there. There must be a registry key that controls this option. Thank you.

MSXML 4.0 SP2 Installation Problems
by Guest Craig- 3 replies
It appears that my MSXML 4.0 SP2 (KB927978 and KB936181) are corrupted as well as my .net framework installs. A very important program is not functioning and the tech support over there suggested that these programs may be the culprits. When he attempted to uninstall and reinstall them we got error messages on them all. He was right. For KB927978 it says, "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'msxml.msi' in the box below. Use source: e:\1c36409ef7fec974e1476d5c53\" This one is so frustrating because I ca…

Device Manager shows up with yellow ! in my external floppy drive...click on and get driver info: Driver (Service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionally. (Code 32) I am simply going around and around...since it is a system32 driver problem. I can uninstall the driver but must reboot to complete, then WinXP finds the hardware, but get msg: Have installed your hardware, but, a problem with installation may prevent your hardware from working. And, sure enough, same thing. I cannot delete driver, replace, since it is a system driver. I need this floppy drive to use some disks I had for previouis co…

I am trying to fix a very specific issue. A client of mine is running Windows XP, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Works. The computer is about 2 years old. There is a HP LaserJet 1012 attached via USB. I can print normally when I use Microsoft Word or Notepad. When I try to use Works, the red light flashes. I have to press reset and then the document will print. The HP Printer is setup as the Automatic Printing option. How do I fix the red flashing light problem?
