I have a Windows XP Media Center computer manufactured by Dell, which I purchased 2 years ago. I recently had a extra memory installed, plus a new video upgrade to the GE-Force 7600GS. It would seem that I could get better video than ever, but not the case. I still get video viewing that is stalling or not running at all...what can be the reason? Please help...

Hi, there are files in my system, which must number close to 1000, and I need help to know which microsoft forum to ask for help in how to get rid of these. I noticed them first when spyware scanner was scanning this area for about an hour, that's how many there are. Here is one of them and they all look the same, just different numbers. 08E84DB0-66CF-4546-B510-8A6B12D9BF8B.WindowsLiveContact If is related to windows live, I dont' know what that is, never downloaded anything to do with it. Microsoft or hotmail said i had to have a live.com email so i got one and that was months back and since then, appears when junk was tossed on system, though not…

On my other computer I do not have this problem. My audio system on this computer is AC97 and all the items in it seem to be ok. The test I did on my microphone is ok. Any one with any ideas please.

Virus/spyware

Hello. My computer has been infected with a virus that changed all my configuration settings, removed all programs from the start menu, makes the C:/ partition invisible, and does not allow me to access virus removal software, or system restore. I keep receiving messages "from a self installed program" that my computer is infected and needs to be scanned by various programs eg., Privacy protector, spyware protection, error cleaner, all of which have been self-installed on my computer and keep connecting to the internet to bring me more ads about virus protection. Can anybody help me, please. Thanks, Sam. P.S. I tried a windows recovery disk that contains…

I was wondering how I could make sure all my active x components like Flash Player are updated to the latest version without having to go to all the sites and check for the latest version.

Windows XP Recovery Installation Problem
by Guest Alan C. Brown- 2 replies

Don't if this is the correct newsgroup for this problem. Tried to reinstall Win XP Pro on my Toshiba 5105-S702 laptop using the Recovery CDs (circa 2001) that were supplied with it, but was blocked at the start of the recovery process, with a message to the effect that the product key was not valid. I suspect this happened because the original defective motherboard on the laptop had been replaced with a new motherboard. Luckily I had previously purchased a Retail Version Xp Pro SP1 a couple years ago, so I was able to use that instead of the Recovery CDs. However I would still like to know how to resolve this problem (using original Recovery CDs with …

Blue Screen everytime I turn on my computer
by Guest Deborah- 6 replies

Everytime I turn on my computer for about a minute or two it shows the blue screen with the word "DELL" on it, then windows will start normally.(Sometimes I have to click my mouse or hit a key on the keyboard to encourage it to start up). I was told that the blue screen normally only shows when there has been a "fatal error" and that is the way the computer recovers itself. This started about 5 months ago when lightning knocked the dsl modem out and the network adapter card out on my computer. I got a new modem from my ISP and I purchased a network card. I am just wondering would a window register cleaner or a defrager help. I am not computer savy but I…

Windows format interaction glitch w/columns, color display backgro
by Guest softieq- 0 replies

Hi! I am trying to figure out how to change the color of a Windows XP (service pack 2) window for 1 Word document only. I am doing a tri-fold brochure for a client. Normally, on my computer, I have changed display/appearance settings so that I have a cool kind of rose color for for my windows. (As you may know, if you don't want your Windows "windows" to have a standard white background, you can go into cntl panel/display/appearances/advanced and change the color of a "window" to one of the preset, or a custom color.) Changing the custom settings back and forth is tricky, and I often "lose" my custom color settings. Thus, I don't want to have to ch…
