Intel 537EP modem *.dll question...
by Guest RxK- 6 replies

Whilst stabbing around trying to erroneously get hyperthreading working on my D935, when this/my cpu doesn't even have it on it, (...kindly pointed out by Colin Barnhorst :-), I did a XP Home ed. slipstreamed SP2 repair install, which hiccupped when it couldn't find IntelCdi.dll for a PCI data fax modem that I'd forgotten was even in there! The modem is an "Intel 537EP," and no amount of rummaging on the CD for it, during that hiccup, could I find that file. In the end I "bypassed" it, and after the repair install, and at the third attempt at "rummage and find it online," or whatever it was called in Device Manager, ...and I guess the procedure was scutt…

Read the article bellow, My own experience with windows desktop search 4 on XP was that of disgust. It sucked up 70 MB of ram with its 4 processes, Its a pile of crap like all vista inspired software.. after living on 2 of my computers for 2 days I removed it .. (I had tried the previous version too and didnt like that one either.) Searching clean tool which can wipe index.dat files at shutdown (not only on next reboot)? Much to my surprise nearly all so-called washer & cleaner tools can wipe all the index.dat files only on next reboot - if at all ! This is of cause ridiculous when someone steal the computer over night. He can then investigate the index.dat Do you know such tools which are able to wipe the index.dat's at shutdown? Hans

Windows XP Service Pack 3 RC Issue :: Logging on to system
by Guest pcgeek- 4 replies
Hello, So, I've got this really weird issue when I log onto my laptop. I upgraded a little while back, to the release candidate of XP SP3, just to see how it would work out. I've been able to reproduce this problem pretty easily, too, so I'm wondering if anyone else has it. The problem is: When booting up the system, the logon screen comes up pretty quickly. Typically, this would be a good thing, indicating that your system is booting up quickly, however, when I do type my credentials, and hit ok quickly, the system appears to be logging on, but then shows the "Applying computer settings", and after that completes, it kicks me back to the login promp…

Questions about .NET Framework ???
by Guest Al Dykes- 2 replies

I have .NET Framework 3.0 SP1 on my laptop. It's 245MB. Does this file size indicate a SDK or a runtime version? My old laptop needs the the disk space and if this is an SDK and I can get some disk space back, I need to do it. Is there a way of telling which apps use .NET on my machine? If I have the SDK version, can someone give me the URL for RT version? searching old Microsoft word files for text string
by Guest windsurferLA- 10 replies
Every once in a while I need to retrieve information that I know exists somewhere on the hard drive of my machine in an old Microsoft Word2.0 file. My tests seem to indicate that both with WinXP/SR2 and Copernic search functions no longer find text strings within the old Word2.0 files. How might I identify a file containing the desired text string? Speed is not an issue, as I can let the machine search all night long. Windsurfer LA

Computer Freeze At Administrator Logon
by Guest SLaboss- 2 replies
My computer recently started freezing in three ways when attempting to log on to the Administrator's Account. (1) If I log on immediately when the main log on screen appears (or wait a little while), the computer appears to begin the logon and then freezes at the main log on screen. (2) If I wait a long period of time and then attempt to log on, the computer freezes at the main log on screen. (3) The Administrator Account log on appears to work correctly and the Administrator Account user screen appears but the computer freezes shortly thereafter with no icons appearing at the botton of the screen. I have been getting around this problem by manually forci…

Advise on diagnosing general freeze-ups in XP
by Guest aswollenstream- 1 reply

Windows just today has begun to freeze up on me one to three hours after booting up, for not apparent or consistent reason that I can deduce. This has happened three times. I un-installed one program that I had installed recently, but it happened again after that. I am running Zone Alarm security suite, so I don't suspect malware. I have also checked msconfig for anything unusual, but found nothing. Can anyone suggest any diagnostic tools I might try? Other steps? I know there must be hundreds of reasons why this might be happening. In the past, I've just sucked it up and spent half a day re-installing, but I thought I'd ask... Thanks

Gurus, Running Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional on Windows XP Pro SP2. I've opened a PDF sent to me by another person and I want to edit it. I want to replace certain words but all I can do is make a strikethrough and annotate a comment. by Guest xdiggler- 0 replies

Hi! Ever since I downloaded Service Pack 2, I have been having trouble downloading files. It seems that the download begins and then gets stuck about 20-30% during the download. This seems to happen with bigger files that I try to download. Is there anything in service pack 2 that could be preventing the completion of the download? Please help with any ideas. This is driving me crazy!!!
