OldSchool Windows Command Prompt question
by Guest Danger_Duck- 3 replies

In general, is there a way so I can configure command prompt to compile files into a different directory than the one the file is in? For instance, say Inside the folder "C:\JavaPrograms\Example" I have example.java and I would like to place the compiled example.class into the bin directory. Instead of having to manually drag the .class files to and from the folder "C:\JavaPrograms\Example\bin" so I can run 'java example' (when command prompt is currently in C:\JavaPrograms\Example), is there a way to set command prompt to compile from src (or root folder) and put the compiled classes into the bin directory? Or, for that matter, can anyone suggest a…

Windows Search 4.0 not indexing Outlook mailboxes
by Guest Marc- 1 reply

Hi, after installing Windows Search 4.0 final over the preview version, search no longer indexes my Outlook 2003 mailboxes. Outlook does not even show up in the search options as a location to be indexed. With preview, everything worked fine and with the Computer Policy Editor I activated indexing delegate mailboxes as well and was happy. Now it drives my crazy. I already uninstalled and reinstalled but had no luck. Anybody experienced the same thing or has any idea on how to get Outlook back into Search ? Thanks & Best regards Marc

Recently, my computer downloaded Service Pack 3. Then I noticed that when I go to use a program I purchased (a golf handicap system) that a window would come up which wanted me to install Microsoft Excel 2003. I was not able to access this program. HOWEVER, if I access mu 2000 installed Mircosoft Excel, I have no problem opening spreadsheets. I did a system restore to before Service Pack 3 was installed and my golf handicap system is working just fine now. Can anyone give me some direction or hints? Do I have to update my Microsoft office (finally?) Seems unfair to me.... Many thanks in Advance.....

Recently used documents list: How to manage?
by Guest Opinicus- 3 replies
Using WinXP Home with all updates etc in place. I've begun making use of the recently used documents list (Start > Documents) but have noticed that the list keeps track of things that I don't consider "documents" like sound and video files. Is there some way to specify the files that are kept track of in this list? Say only Word and Excel files for example? Or can I exclude files with certain extensions from the list? TIA -- Bob http://www.kanyak.com

Looking for a small, free utility that will "shade" a window when the titlebar is double clicked, instead of minimizing it. Tried Google, but "windows shade" is a wee bit too generic.

CHKDSK Hangs - HELP
by Guest Bilbo- 2 replies
XP SP2 wants to check C: (NTFS) for consistency; When allowed, it passes file verification, passes index checks then starts recovering orphaned files. lists: _REGISTRY_USER_NTUSER_S-1-5-19 (40613) into directory file 40568 CHKDSK then hangs; disk i/o light is on pretty solid. If file verification is denied, system appears to boot and run pretty normally. Is there a way to recover this? Thx, -- BilBo

Offline Files
by Guest nevets2001uk- 0 replies

We have setup offlines files via a GPO so that users can make a specific share available offline if they work with a laptop. Once they enable the share offline it synchronises and everything works perfectly. Our annoyance is that if we then login as another user or even the local admin on that PC, offline files tries to synchronise even though the PC is not on the network. Is there a way to ensure offline files only synchronises if the primary user logs in / out of the PC? -- Cheers, Steve Gordon MCSE, MCSA: Messaging
