Home page will not open.
by Guest slick1- 1 reply

For the last two days I've tried to open my home page, (my.msn.com/) on Windows Internet Explorer 7, but I keep getting "We'e sorry, the page you requested could not be found", then underneath this is "http//sc.msn.com/c/my/err/500er.htm?aspxerrorpath=/" . Is the MSN server down or is this something on my system I have to fix. I've ran all my anti-spy, virus, malware programs and did a checkdisk, but nothing showed-up. I can get Google, e-mail and eveything else, but no home page. I have not added or removed anything on my sysytem for four days except for windows updates. I would appreciate any help here or to where I can go to find out. Thanks! …

XP License question
by Guest Brian- 12 replies

I'd like to install my copy of XP Pro on another computer I just bought for evaluation. The new computer has Vista, and I'd like to see if XP improves the performance, b/c right now it's insanely slow for a new computer. If XP does improve the performance, I'd plan on buying a new copy for the 2nd computer. Is this acceptable under the XP licensing agreement?

Administrator's link to other users' documents
by Guest simonc- 0 replies

When I open My Computer while logged on as Administrator I see folder icons for the My Documents folders of all the other users on the computer - except one! All the users' My Documents folders are located on a separate logical partition, so I've gone through the process of moving the folder location for each user. (This was so I could see the same My Documents whether using Win XP 32 bit or 64 bit, as both are installed.) What might have got lost in the My Documents setup for the one user which doesn't show up in My Computer? How could I restore this? Grateful for advice.

mouse sensitivity issue
by Guest McDermotts- 1 reply

Not sure this is the right newsgroup to post this question, but hoping for a solution. For awhile (was occasional and now almost constant), the left click button on the mouse is ultra sensitive. It's almost, but not quite like an automatic double click. I've gone over all the adjustable settings, and back to the defaults, and no change. Sometimes if computer is restarted, the problem is gone for awhile, but always comes back. Mouse is a Logitech marble trackball. Since it works fine some of the time, I think the trackball itself is probably not the source of the problem. Thanks for any help, Todd McD

wmiprvse.exe & mofd.dll very slow startup
by Guest BenB- 0 replies

Hi, Recently we've noticed a lot of our laptops have started to take a long time to boot up. Most are around a 2.6Ghz Duo Core 2 CPU with 2Gb RAM, so the spec should handle WinXP without a problem. However, boot up was taking over 5 minutes on some laptops, so I installed BootLogXP. After doing a reboot, and analysing the results, it looks like wmiprvse is starting twice, the first is taking 143 seconds to start and the second is taking 131 seconds. Looking at all the loaded DLLs, of the first instance, 46 of them take between 1.03 & 1.97 seconds to start, but MOFD.DLL takes 144 seconds to start. What is this dll used for? What would cause it to ta…

CRT Monitor issue
by Guest MapleE.- 4 replies
Hi: One of PCs with XP is still using CRT Monitor that is old-fashioned, in today's PC-World. However, due to a good-quality photoes image that CRT Monitor produces, then I still stick to it. It's Plug & Play Monitor with slight curve in the middle of it. One issue I've been encoutering, however that a size-screen reduces, from 17 inches to 15.5 inches that happens about once a month. Although I manage to get it back to the desired/original screen-size, I wonder whether I can keep a desired/original CRT Monitor Screen permanently, at least 'save' in order to rescue the original CRT Monitor screen-size without hassle. Any help on this would…

How to mark/select 2 files from 2 different (!!!) dirs ?
by Guest Martin Caldwell- 0 replies
Assume I put a shortcut to a program on my desktop. This program is able to receive 2 files as parameter e.g. myprogam.exe filename1 filename2 Just think of a diff viewer as example. Ok. If now the two files are located in the SAME directory I can mark both and drag them onto the program shortcut and everything works fine. But what if the files are in different directories ? If I mark the first file in WinExplorer, then switch to the second directory and mark the second file then the previous marking of the first file is lost. Ok, I could copy the second file to the first directory in order to use multi-marking but this is rather unconvenient. …

Hello, I have a dell laptop with intel 945GM graphic adaptor. It won't offer additional resolution options when my monitor is connected with its 5-pin BNC cable. The maximum resolution permitted by the graphic adapter is 1024x768 but my monitor is a high-end EIZO 21" CRT which can display video in much higher resolution. I think windows can not check for monitor VESA information through a BNC. This is most likely the problem. I think if I used a VGA cable things would work fine but I don't want to buy me an extra VGA cable. So my question is: Can I somehow make XP output high video resolution through a BNC cable? cheers,

I had 2 disk drives in my Pc Drive 1 had X64 ( C), Beta Vistas (G: and H:) and a vanilla XP (E:) that I used for beta testing commercial apps ( Norton, Acronis etc) Drive2 had 2 copies of XP and a Library (D:) When I booted I'd get 3 prompts XP, Vista or X64 .... If I chose XP, then I'd choose which copy of XP : C: D: E: ? ..... cutting to the chase soon ... I removed drive 1 and when I boot Drive 2 I get XP on C: XP on E: prompt ( as I used to long ago before X64/Vista installs.) ( My Library drive is D:) That was good. Then I figured, I haven't actually booted the second copy of XP on the drive in a long time ( 2006), so I think I'll restore the van…
