Wireless nic and citrix connection
by Guest Billy- 0 replies
I have new pc's that automatically logon/start a Citrix session. The problem is these pc's have wireless nic's, and it seems that when they boot, the Citrix tries to connect before the wireless nic's have a chance to pick up an IP address. So the Citrix start up fails. Anyway for the wireless nic's to get an ip address before the citrix connection or to delay the citrix connection until after getting an ip address?

The Zalman fan controller

Ok, first off lets not get into " why are you asking here". I'm asking here because I'm using a HP Pavilion 503n PC running Windows XP Home edition and I was getting pop-up blocks anytime I tried to put a message with this PC. I usually just read the messages and post messages with my laptop. That even came to an end 2 days ago and I got fed up and had my hard drive wiped clean on a factory installation, factory ready lets say, by doing a complete new installation of the OS on my Dell 9400/E1705 laptop. By luck now, I just held down the Ctrl key and hit New question and this box came up. So might as well ask the question here. I finished installing the …

Hello! Windows Update site, http://www.lavasoft.com and some other security sites do not open. Windows Update downloads do not start even manually. Google shows adds in the beginning of search results. Ad-Aware 2008 (definition file 0081.0000) does not remove the problem. OS is Windows XP SP3. IE 7. Automatically downloaded updates do not install too. Office scan 8.710.1002 is not finding any viruses. SFC /scannow does not find any discrepancies. Other peer computers in our network do not have the problem. How to eliminate the problem? Sincerely, Dima

MMC cannot open the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\dfrg.msc
by Guest Stroller- 9 replies

[i've previously tried to post this a couple of time, but it doesn't seem to have come through - I'm fairly sure the newsreader on my other machine is playing up, but apologies if I'm mistaken & you see this twice] Hi there, I manage a small domain with an SBS 2003 server and a handful of PCs running XP Professional SP2, all reasonably up-to-date using Windows Update. I have a shortcut to Disk Defragmenter on my desktop, which is the same on all machines thanks to roaming profiles. It points to "%SystemRoot%\system32\dfrg.msc" When I'm at the server and click on the shortcut it works perfectly, but when I do so at any of the XP machines it fails, …

by Guest Clamorous- 2 replies

I'm using a Dell OptiPlex 745, Windows XP Professional, SP2 with all updates (probably except the last since this is a corporate machine and IT takes care of the updates). I usually have two Windows Explorer windows ope all the time. I run into a problem that seems to be getting more frequent where, when trying to open another window (right click start and select Explore) I get a message that it encountered a problem and needs to close, ya-da, ya-da, ya-da. From this point on I can't open another Explorere window. Sometimes I can start "My Computer". If it does start, when I go to close it I'll get the same error. Or, sometimes I get the error message when try…

Post-SP3 Blues - External Drives Stopped Working 1 2
by Guest Michael Faklis- 28 replies

I installed SP3 on my 32-bit Windows Professional laptop, but its had some undesirable side effects I need some help correcting: 1) The Address toolbar is gone. It's even missing from the list of available toolbars. I find this a very useful tool. How can I recover this tool? 2) My external disks are having trouble starting up, which results in Windows not starting up. The two firewire disks were daisy-chained. I now need to remove them to start windows, and even then when reconnected one at a time, only the first one of them will start-up. When connecting the second one (daisy chained or in a second firewire port) both firewire drives stopped…

Stop C000021a {fatal system error } ....
by Guest DD- 6 replies

I have successfully installed SP3 on two computers running XP Home and with such confidence I offered to install it for my granddaughter on her XP computer. Unfortunately I got the error message "Stop: C000021a {fatal system error} status of oxc 000012f (0x00000000 0x00000000)The system has been closed down" on a blue screen, just after the Windows splash screen. After this, the computer reboots and continues to do so time and time again. I have found several references to this problem on the Internet but mostly without the blue screen or, some with the blue screen have been able to boot into safe mode but it does not work for me! From my reading, it …

Offline Files
by Guest nevets2001uk- 0 replies

We have just started using offline files on our network for laptop users. They have a profile directory via Active Directory which they can make available offline. This then synchronises at Logoff and seems to be working. An annoyance we have found however is that if we login as local admin to the laptop to make some changes, when we log out the offline synchronisation tries to occur. This seems an odd behaviour as the local admin has no offline files or network access. Is there a way to prevent the sync happening for this user? Ideally only the primary user of the laptop should be able to initiate the sync. -- Cheers, Steve Gordon MCSE, MCSA:…

Problems with screensaver
by Guest George_222- 4 replies
A silly but annoying problem has started with 3dpipes (sspipes.scr) screensaver. It doesn't run properly. If I try to run it, all that happens is the pipes appear for about 1 or 2 seconds and then the screen goes black and the pipes reappear etc, i.e. it doesn't draw all the pipes for a decent period of time like it used too. All other screen savers run OK. DXDIAG says all is OK Running WXP-SP2 I know its silly but I hate things like this and am worried it may be a 'starter for ten' for something worse. Any ideas please? Thanks
