Win XP Offline File Synchronization
by Guest NC Beach Bum- 1 reply
We have three new systems which are having major troubles with File Synchronization. When offline files are built it goes well without errors. Then when a file is changed offline the system tries to synchronize but we get the error message that the offline file is not able to synchronize with the online server files. I am given an option of deleting the offline copy and if that happens then I lose both the online and offline copy of the file and have to restore the file from backup. Any ideas or where I can find more info on file synchronization troubleshooting? -- NC Beach Bum

Hello, I'm trying to set up a PC with Windows XP Professional and I tried to install IE7 on it. It installed fine, but when I click on the IE7 icon (after reboot) I can't access the internet at all. The browser never opens. I have a laptop running Windows XP Pro and it works just fine. However, my desktop cannot seem to run IE7 for some reason.

folder names only showing first letter
by Guest NP- 0 replies
Hi For some reason this evening my computer has started only showing the first letter of foldernames in the taskbar at the top of the dialogue box when I open a folder. For other applications it displays the name etc, it only seems to be affecting my folders. I can't use a system restore to go back to the last save point because I had to turn off system restore a while back due to a problem with a virus (now totally cleared) and I forgot to turn it back on (yes I know, my mistake!). Any idea how I can fix this so I can see the folder names again. In the folder view the names are correct - it's only when I open them that the name in the task bar only displ…

Do you have to install
by Guest Paul- 4 replies

Windows Rights Management Services, and RMUsetup.exe, before you install IE 7?? I dont even know what they do ! And I've never actually used them (wouldnt know how to if I tried anyway) What I'm going to do (if I can) is slipstream IE 7, WMP 11, (and updates), with XP SP3, once it comes out. And if I need the above 2 files before I install IE 7, what are the switches?? Do they have any? If I dont need these 2 files to use IE 7, then I'll just slipstream IE 7 with the IE 7 updates, WMP and SP3. Any info appreciated Thanx

When opening mail in one of my mail identities, the mail is always small - i.e. not maximized - maybe 4" x 4" and I have to double click the blue bar or the restore box - the box in the upper right corner betw the minimze "-" and the close "x". In the othe identity they open large but not maximized - i.e. the restore box having only one square instead of the overlapped squares you see when it's maximized. I also find Explorer windows opened from links are opening small the same way. How do I get it to stop doing this? Running XP Media Center SP2. Thanks for all input.

I have windows xp pro on the computer I am having trouble with. I tried to run the chkdsk and it said I had some corrupt files so it deleted them, then it started to run stage 2 but had been just sitting there on 0 percent for over an hour. Does it take that long to do it or is there another problem? My computer started to act up yesterday and I just shut it down till I had more time to mess with it. Windows will load but thats it. Nothing will work and everything I try to bring up it says its corrupt and to run the chkdsk again. Is there something else I can do? Thank you.

I reformatted my computer over the weekend from FAT32 to NTFS. When I moved my media catalog and background files into application data they were arranged the same way they were before. As far as I can tell they are all there--just an annoyance. Is there any way to fix this? Also for some reason it will not do large icons on the desktop. What did I do wrong? Help!

Temporary Internet Files folder temporarily disabled.
by Guest ray124c41- 0 replies
This happened today and has happened before: The Temporary Internet Files folder becomes immutable. It accepts no new files . If you delete whatever's in the folder, it remains empty as you browse around. Also the "hidden" attribute check box in the Properties window for this folder is enabled, where normally it is disabled. I haven't been able to correct this when it happens, but fortunately, it soon fixes itself. Any ideas about what's going on? -- ray124c41

Mouse pointer
by Guest Yves Claeys- 4 replies

My PC works with XP Pro SP2. I am using a Microsoft keyboard (Wireless multimedia keyboard 1.10A) and a Wireless optical 2.0 mouse from Microsoft. Recently I reinstalled my webcam software (Logitech Quickcam fusion), because the colours were bad when having a video conversation with my brother in France (I live in Belgium) using Skype. After this operation the colours were back to normal but my mouse pointer changed: from a normal arrow pointer to an arrow with an hour-glass next to it. Everything functions normally but i am unable to modify my pointer. Reinstalling and updating my mouse software does not help. Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem?

Cyclic redundancy error??
by Guest Joe McGuire- 3 replies

I am having a problem copying the contents of a folder to another, actually a flash drive. One of the files to be copied is a zip file (call it abcdefg.zip). The copy process in Win Explorer starts without incident but stops copying files when it hits the zip file. The error message says: "Cannot copy abcdefg: Data error (Cyclic redundancy check)" I have no idea what this means (well I know it is some mathematical test checking for errors of some sort, but don't quote me). Is there a Windows XP issue copying zip files? Or does this mean there is something wrong or corrupted) with my specific zip file? I don't have any other zip files laying around …

RE: Backup Facility Well now; THAT explains why I've never been able to actually back anything up with this dandy little MS utility! Is it also known as "Windows Backup Utility", 1.20MB? 'Cause that's what I just REMOVED, Purged, and cleansed from my system. Aahhh!... I feel a whole lot better already! {B^{D~ Might anyone suggests a "3rd Party" (Sort of like the Constitution Party, come to think of it...) utility - preferably FREEware - that actually WORKS?

Folder Display Question
by Guest Joe McGuire- 1 reply
As far as I can recall all my files showed up in Win Explorer in black. That is, the file names showed up in black whether in the List or Details view. Recently I noticed that a lot are now showing up in blue, while some remain in black. Switching between the views makes no difference. Whatever is blue in List is blue in Details. What is causing this and, more importantly, should I be concerned? Incidentally the same thing happens in Word 2003. The files that are blue in Win Explorer are blue in Word.
