Can't play videos
by Guest bobster- 5 replies
For some reason I can no longer play web videos from news sites like MSNBC, NYT, Washington Post etc. Also can't play any Youtube videos. Until recently, I had this capability but now it's gone. It happened about the time I downloaded SP3 but I'm not sure it is related to that event. The culprit seems to be a lack of Adobe Flash Player. It seems to be missing from my computer. When I attempt to download the latest version from the Adobe site, it will not do it. There are many suggestions from Adobe as to why it won't download but none seems to help. I would really like to get this capability back. Any suggestions will be appreciated. 2.2MHZ In…

USB Flash Drive .. Dialog
by Guest JCO- 8 replies

I use to put my flash drive in and I would get a dialog that asks me what to do. Example... play, open... so forth. Usually for data files on a drive, I would select open folder. Anyway, this does not happen anymore. My computer still recognizes all three of my flash drives and they all show up on windows explorer, but I don't ever get the dialog box anymore. Any way of getting that back?

How can I set up different Default Folder Targets for the 'Save As' Command when I want to save certain types of files, e.g. .doc files to one Folder, ..xls files to another folder, .jpg to another folder, and/or having a set of numerals or letters at the beginning or end of the file name to get 'Save As' to go to a particular Folder. It is annoying and time consuming to have to search through different Drives, Folders and Sub-Folders when 'Save As' ing a lot of new files. Much appreciated if anyone can help. Regards, W R

by Guest AlohaMahalo- 1 reply

Hi, After installing Windows XP SP3, Synchtoy 1.4 repeatedly crashes when started with the ususal "SynchToy.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close ..." So I send a report hoping to get some feedback but nothing. I even tried to uninstall and reinstall it and still encounter the same problem. there is absolutely no way to start it without the above error message. Help !!! NOTE: Just an FYI: The same problem seems to happen with Microsoft Word 2003 and it will only open in safe mode. The problem is solved by renaming the 'normal.dot' file and then performing a 'detect and repair'. Unrelated to this problem but I was wondering if there is a s…

Hide CD-Drive Letter?
by Guest Walter Primer- 7 replies
I have a visitor coming in a few days, and I have created a separate account for him, since merely giving access to the Guest account does not allow internet access. I also want to be able to hide the CD-Drive, so it cannot be accessed from My Computer/Explorer. Using TweakUI, I can hide it from myself, but it still shows up when I login under the other user name. I am unable to run the TweakUI utility if I login as the other user since that program refuses to allow those without Admin rights to use the setup files. How to handle? I don't see it in any of the Help files, or mentioned in recent history hereon. Thanks! WP

Setting default multiple home pages in IE7
by Guest JonK- 3 replies

I can set the home page for all users using mmc and group policy with no problem. Is there any way to set it for a second tab in IE7? I tried setting up the two lines for the two URLs in IE7 settings homepage then copy and pasting into the line in the URL field in Group Policy but that doesn't work. I also want to lock this down so it can't be changed. Thanks for any help in advance. Jon

I have a couple of external hard drives that I would like to permanently exempt from system restore. What happens is that if I turn them off and go thru a reboot and then turn them on, system restore returns them to monitor status. The drives always retain there drive letter designation. Is there any way to make system restore remember the settings? Thanks.

program installation

I'm about to install Acronis True Image 11 Home from a CD on my Dell Dimension running Windows XP SP3. I also have Norton Internet Security. I'm guessing I should disable Norton and turn off my DSL modem for the time it takes to install the new program. Right? If so, is it sufficient to simply turn off Norton's AutoProtect? Or does something else need to be done? Thanks much! Jo-Anne

XP with SP3 Update Hangs.
by Guest Lost Soul- 9 replies

I was very happy with my system, the performance and reliability. For some reason (call it idiocy), I opted to upgrade to SP3 and all it's other updates (malicious tool etc). What really annoys me more than what is below, is the fact that after updating to SP3, my Kaspersky 7, Codecharge Studio, ASPstudio and a host of other programs failed INCLUDING my Dlink wireless connection manager! Needless to say, that one really got me going. I've resolved those issues after spending quite a few dollars on updates and fixes for them, but that's another issue. Ooops and OK, now when booting XP with SP3, my profile hangs. Specifically, my background image appea…
