by Guest Mr. Low- 4 replies

Dear Sir, I was having some internet connection problem recently. My ISP recommended me to execute "ipconfig /flushdns" at the command prompt. I performed the following steps: 1 - Click on "Start" button, go to "run" 2 - Type "command", click "OK" 3 - Type in "ipconfig /flushdns", then press "Enter" When I completed step 2 the following error message appeared: 16 bit Ms Dos Subsystem C:\windows\system32\command.com C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The system file is not suitable for running MS Dos and MS Windows application. Choose close to terminate the application. May I know how to overcome this problem ? Is this comman…

I have an XP laptop that came with XP/Pro SP1/OEM. It didn't come with a XP distro disk, just a recovery disk. It's been upgraded to SP2. I'be borrowed a CD of XP/ProSP2 Retail. I want to make a recovery disk. with BartPE. It is legit to use a Retail SP2 CD with an OEM, SP1 upgraded system? Can I give the borrowed CD back? If I need to recover, are there any times when recovery will ask me for the Microsoft CD? -- Al Dykes News is something someone wants to suppress, everything else is advertising. - Lord Northcliffe, publisher of the Daily Mail

Hi, I really need help on this. Thanks in advance. I have a machine running: matrix raid (two physical hard disks), with win xp installed (SP2, C: drive) and Win2003 (E: drive) server. I have three partitions on my hard disk: C: and E: running striped mirror, and D: running redundancy (i.e. if one raid mbr fails, can still retrieve data on the other one). Everything is fine. Later for performance problems, I want to install another Win XP to my computer. For E: drive, it sits with Win2003, and files of applications installed in C: win xp. Therefore, when I installed the 2nd XP, I didn't format E: partition, but just let the installation program overwrite…

Boot from CD Issue

Greetings. I have an issue. I am trying to reinstall Windows XP Pro on my Dell Dimension. I have tried to install it using the boot menu, and selecting the cd drive from the list, but instead of booting from the cd, (the blue Windows installation setup), it just loads Windows XP and it takes me to the welcome screen. I tried running it from the cd using the autoplay, but when it tries to install it says that it cannot because the computer has a newern (SP2) version of Windows. Any ideas what I can do...? Please help! Thank you. -- a response is always welcome...

Hi, I am not a microsoft certified, I am just a user of windows XP, I have a good knowledge surfing around in windows XP. There is a myth I heard a lot of times but did not read about it anywhere, so my question is it true? The Myth: "If I have folders with files on my desktop my computer speed goes down because everything on desktop is kept on local memory for faster indexing. If I want to speed up my memory only icons- shortcuts can be kept on the desktop, the same issue with my documents older" I hope someone will give me the right answer with logical explanation or some urls.ž Best regards, Ashraf Gheith

missing offline files
by Guest Ad- 6 replies

We use offline files for a few years now and it's working fine. A few weeks ago some of our users noticed that synchronizing was very slow. Normally it took seconds to check for differences, now it took minutes. They also noticed they missed a large amount of their (offline) files. I re-initialized the offline files cache (kb 230738) and created a new local copy. The files are still missing. When I look with the explorer, tools, folder options, offline files, view files I see all the files and most of them say "local copy is incomplete". I tested on another PC with another user and it works fine. Does anyone have an idea what might be wrong and how to …

by Guest Tony Meloche- 5 replies

This happens about 2 times out of three when shutting down or rebooting. I'm enclosing all teh relevant data I can think of. Here's what you should know first of all: The computer boots up and runs perfectly. No problems of any kind with anything from boot until shutdown or reboot, whether five minutes or five hours later. Avast Professional, up to date thorough scan - clean. Four different well-respected anti-malware tools, all current on updates, full scans - nada. Event log, any category: Nothing out of the ordinary. I AM running UPH clean. This is the bluescreen I get. On *normal* shutdown or reboot, first the icons disappear from t…

Primary HD Running Out of Space - Clone??
by Guest Sam- 13 replies
A friend of mine has a Dell Dimension 8200 computer with windows XP Pro. The primary HD (C:) is 40GB in size. He is just about out of space on this HD. We were able to delete some items and move some data, but one program I believe, has to keep its data on the primary HD. He asked me for my opinion and I suggested that he purchase a new HD (Seagate 160 GB in size) and use a Clone Program to make the transfer. I have used image programs for years but never a clone program, other than reading about them. My thought would be to make the transfer to the new HD with the clone program and then install a good image program like the Symantec Backup Exec Syste…

Create/install a "certificate in the trusted Root Certification Authorities store"

Create/install a "certificate in the trusted Root Certification Authorities store" XP Pro up to date using (from START>RUN) certmgr.msc I found a certificate that I would like to install it in "the trusted Root Certification Authorities store". I can see the certificate in the Personal folder but its "certification path" indicates that it is "Not Trusted." Do I have to delete it and start over? modify it? The certificate was to authorize my personal Macros in Excel. That said, I do not believe it is an Excel issue (creating, modifying, installing certificates) I have no clue how to: 1) create a personal certificate and/or 2) install it …
