Problems with 16 bit sub-system
by Guest Tony Hedge- 3 replies

I've got a strange problem with the 16-bit subsystem on XP Pro SP2. I use a very old DOS cross-assembler tool. It works by spawning from one program to the other, passing arguments. It's a third party tool, so I have no control over it. I've never had any problems running it under XP. It would always run either from IDE's which can invoke assemblers etc, from cmd.exe or from command.com. Last time I needed to use it was November time, when it was working fine. Since then, of course, there have been lots of Xp updates, and I've installed various new (to me) MS tools (VS2005, CE5.0, eVc4 etc). When I tried to use the cross assembler yesterday, I got …

Hello again, Computer Info: LG L1933TR Monitor NVIDIA GeForce FX5500 256MB AGP Soyo Dragon KT880 v2 AMD XP2900 2.0G WinXP Home SP2 Background info: No recent changes to the system. The issue: Went to bed with the display working fine... woke up 5.5 hours later to find the display stretched far to the right. The height of the window is correct and fits monitor perfectly... it's just waaaayyyy wide. The windows in other operating systems on other partitions (including a Windows 98SE installation) are still correct, so it's limited to my …

2048x1536-capable video card limits itself to 1600x1200?
by Guest Homer J. Simpson- 1 reply

Hi all, I have a 24" Samsung 245BW monitor I bought maybe 2 months back--great monitor, no problem and no complaints whatsoever. It's hooked up to an Nvidia 8800GTS with 320MB, which can run at the monitor's native resolution (1920x1200) just fine. I also have an old ATI Radeon 7500 used as a secondary display, hooked up to an old 17" LG 787LE. According to various posts, that card can do 2048x1536--even higher than what any of my monitors can do. The Samsung 245BW monitor is currently on sale at a price I couldn't pass up, and given that I've pretty happy with mine, I decided why not get another one and retire my old 17-incher one's hooked up to …

by Guest Peter- 0 replies

Hi all, I have the following problem with one of my systems. Windows XP SP1 (fresh install) won't restart or turn off the computer. Basically, it goes through the shutdown process, the screen goes black but all hardware keeps working. The only way to restart after that is by pressing the reset button and the ony way to shut it off completely is by holding the power button. Any help would be appreciated. P.S. The OS is installed on a RAID0 - 2 WD Raptors 36 GB each. Thanks

Two Address Books Confusing
by Guest Spring06- 1 reply

Hi: There are 'two' e-mail address books that were created years apart, in the past. One of e-mail address books, that is older and has more e-mail addreses while the newer address book has less. However, instead of older e-mail address that has more e-mail addresses, newer e-mail address book sitting at the top of Outlook Express. I want to get 'older' e-mail address book sitting at the top of Outlook Express, because of abudance of e-mail addresses in it. My question is; How to get 'older' e-mail address book sitting at the top of Outlook Express, NOT 'newer' e-mail address book at the top of O.E.? Thanks for any helps.

Reset availability settings for "seeing disabled"
by Guest Kent, Norway- 1 reply

I have a computer running XP HOME that was configured using the guide for availability settings for seeing disabled/hearing disabled people. Problem is, I want to reset these setting(s) fully. There is no dedicated choice for this in settings for availability, however, most settings are easy to "reset" by choosing non-high contrast, ordinary mouse and so on - but - several colors in the internet explorer window still are "wrong", and that is what is bugging me! the system couldn't be reset to earlier state by using roll back either.

Hello, I'm trying to help my sister fix her computer because we had a really bad bad storm about a month back. I'm not sure if she had her computer on or whatnot but now when you try to start the computer it freezes at the Windows XP screen, right when the little bar starts moving, the one that looks like night rider lol THAT'S when it freezes Before it even gets to that screen, you get the black screen that tells you that a power surge problem happened and it gives u a countdown where u have to decide which way to start windows, safe mode, normally, etc. Her computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 series;Pentium 4 2.80GHz; 512KB; BIOS version A05. No sound on new comp after installing WinXP SP2
by Guest Industrial One- 4 replies
There's no sound device detected on the Sound Devices menu in Control Panel. If I try to open a sound file with WinAMP I get an error message saying "BadDirect(something)." I'm guessing since my computer's new hardware, sound card etc. is dated AFTER 2002 when this SP package of Windows XP was released, it does not recognize it. I do not have internet access with that comp, so Windows update is out of question. What do I need to install to resolve this issue? Thanks.

rolling out laptops from image
by Guest -keevill-- 1 reply

I bought 6 end of the line laptops for use by our field reps. I have spent a day and half setting up the first one with winxp pro and all the drivers and windows updates and finally software. Is it possible to use some cloning software to make an image of the completed pc and put in on a thumb drive in order to set up the other machines quickly. Can it be done with Norton Ghost or Acronis True Image perhaps ? How will I be able to put in the windows activation codes is one question which comes to mind ?

pointing a drive to another drive
by Guest goldwyn98- 6 replies

My computer uses drive E: rather than C: as the hard drive. The computer has no C: drive. Some programs automatically try to download or open to drive c: without asking, so they fail. Is there a way to get the computer to direct requests for C: to go to E: instead (such as C:=E:)?

jusched.exe error message
by Guest Lee M.- 1 reply
Just in the last couple of days, I have been getting an error message when I start Outlook2007 (that's generally the first program I start after boot up). It says "jusched.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close..." When I close it, everything continues to run fine. I haven't made any changes in Windows XP SP2 or Outlook since this started popping up. My weekly virus scan yesterday was clean. What's up with this?

USB2 now USB1
by Guest stav- 18 replies

Hi. Three weeks ago I installed Registry cleaner software on my pc but unfortunately it cleaned more than it should have and my pc would not start, even in safe mode. In desperation I tinkered with the bios (the only thing I could get on screen) systematically enabling everything that was disabled, and disabling everything that was enabled, rebooting each time with the back-up disc I made when I bought the pc in the cd drive each time. Eventually, something must have worked because the pc suddenly burst into life and the cd did its job and re-installed Windows for me. Everything's working fine now apart from the three USB2 ports on the front of the machine…

After Windows update: Startup after login veery slow
by Guest Karsten Wutzke- 1 reply
Hello all, I've recently installed some Windows updates. The last update before that one was performed maybe 2 years ago, so there was a lot to be downloaded and installed. Problem: Boot of Windows is normal, *after* the (automatic) login however startup has become veeery slow since then, it seems some service(s) started take/s ~3 minutes to complete! The annoying thing is, that unidentified piece of software runs *before* my network setup, so after a reboot I must wait several minutes to get my internet connection up and running. Starting the Task Manager to find some process taking CPU time didn't reveal anything, to me it seems something is looping for…

XP Media Center 2005 Away Mode
by Guest Bill- 3 replies

Ok, so I may be posting in the wrong forum, but I could not find a Media Center specific group. I am running XP Media Center 2005 on a Dell Dimension E520, 2.66 GHZ Dual-core Pentium D, 1 GB RAM 2 internal SATA 250 GB/300 GB hard drives. GeForce 7300 LE 256 MB vid card (which is strangely shown pretty much everywhere in the system as having 512 MB though??) Anyhow, I reinstalled Windows some time ago with the CD instead of the factory image restore from the hidden partition. No problems, everything installed, working properly, and showing properly (except the vid card's memory) Quite a few months later bought the 300 GB drive to install, and after instal…

Movie Maker: Audio Stops Playing?
by Guest Matthew- 1 reply
When I play the movie I made, sometimes my audio randomly stops playing at random spots. It used to work before. However, sometimes when I move the timeline tracker back a little, then the audio starts to play. It's not that there is music or any other audio also playing, it's just the people's voice originally from the video. Also, sometimes the audio stops at the same spot and sometimes it actually works. How come the audio just randomly cuts off and stops playing? And how do I stop this from happening? I have Windows Movie Maker 2.1 and Windows XP.

Movie Maker Keeps Freezing
by Guest Matthew- 2 replies

Everytime I open up the program Windows Movie Maker, the programs continuously freezes. I can't even get anywhere with a click once or twice without having the program frozen afterwards. Because of this, I am not able to complete my work that needs to be done and I do not know why this problem is occuring. Other programs seem to be working fine. When I was working with Windows Movie Maker before, everything ran smoothly. But when it continued to process, the program slowly started to freeze more often and now it just completely freezes. What can I do to stop this problem? -- - Matt
