by Guest Dumb David!- 2 replies

I want to log onto Yahoo.com but Yahoo replies my browser does not accept cookies. How do I enable them? I have found a program on my CPU (Analogue) which has a list of cookies from sites I have been to, but does not contain Yahoo.com. Analogue has three sections, the centre one has all the cookie sites I have been to B4, but need to be accepted or blocked by transferring them into either the left or right column. But what I need to know is how to get the first cookie if they (Yahoo) says my CPU is not enabled to accept cookies? TIA

External HDD shows up in Device Manager but not Explorer
by Guest DennisQWilson@gmail.com- 2 replies

I have an old Quantum Go120A laptop hard drive that I want to install in a 2.5" external case and hook up to my desktop to copy off all the old data and then wipe clean. Device Manager recognizes and correctly identifies the hard drive, but unfortunately it doesn't show up in My Computer, Explorer or Disk Management. Further, the "Device Status" box on its property sheet in Device Manager says "This device is working properly." How can I get my system to recognize this drive so I can access the data one last time?

What Causes My Display Theme to Change?
by Guest Judy- 0 replies
I have my display set to "Windows Classic" with a 'teal' background. . . . . dull, I suppose, but I like it. But about once a week or so, when I turn the computer on, the display has changed to "Windows XP". This never occurred until about 6 months ago. Can anyone tell me what's it causing this, and/or how to fix it. I know how to RESET it--but I'd like to know the way to keep it from happening at all. Thank you for your help. Judy

Whats this mean?
by Guest Paul- 7 replies

Hi all, anyone know what this means? Timed out sending notification of target device change to window of "WndClass_CWinDrivesNotifyerHelperWindow" Event ID: 257. Double clicking on this entry tells me this: Explanation The specified program is taking too long to respond to notifications about the device. This can decrease system performance. User Action Restart the program. If this does not improve the response time, consider upgrading to a newer version of the program. Well it would be nice to KNOW what program, and device its talking about. Altho, its possible Nero maybe the culprit. I've seen a few sites, that s…

"Device doesn't exist on the network" - Windows 95/98/NT4, NTLMv2
by Guest Mantas Mikulėnas- 0 replies

So I have two VMs in VirtualPC. (But I don't think the fact that they're VMs matters.) On both of them - Windows 98 SE and Windows 95 - I installed NTLMv2, and tried to connect to my host PC (Windows XP Pro SP3). The problem: It only worked *once*. The first time I clicked on my host PC (inside the virtual PC's "Network Neighbourhood"), it opened - it showed all the shares, I could even browse them. Then I closed the window, and it stopped working. Now every time I try to open my host PC from the virtual one, it says: [X] \\THINK is not accessible. This device does not exist on the network. BUT the host PC says that the login was successful: -----B…

Acronis 7/XP Questions 1 2 3 4
by Guest Frog- 83 replies

I have a new computer that has Windows XP software loaded on it. The computer includes a floppy drive (A drive) and a read/write CD/DVD player in it. I also have a copy of Acronis 7 backup software that I previously used on my old Windows 98SE system. Now, for my questions: Is Acronis 7 compatible with a Windows XP machine? I think, based on my research on the Web, that it is compatible. The newer version 11 seems to have many new whistles and bells included in the software, but I don't think I would ever use any of this expanded capability. Secondly, is it better to have my backups on my hard drive (E Drive) or separate CDs? What are the pros and…

Computer Will Not Start
by Guest icart89- 9 replies

I was on my computer playing a game, (PC game, not online) and it loaded slow on a particular item(downloaded online) I clicked on. I assumed it froze on me although the hour glass was still spinning so I click 'Ctrl Alt Delete' at once to end the task for the game. It didn't show so I pressed it several more times. After a while the item from the game finally loaded. But the game went very slow so I exited the game. However, I couldn't exit properly because the task window said it was 'Not REsponding' so I had to shut my computer off myself by holding down the power button until it shut down. After a few seconds I turned it back on. I got a black screen t…

Windows XP not booting
by Guest jps74- 2 replies

Hello, all. I hope someone can help. I'm running Windows XP (pretty sure SP3 installed by now) on an old Compaq Presario desktop. Yesterday, I was noticing that things were quite slow and the hard drive was whirring like mad. I shut down normally, waited a few minutes, and rebooted. The windows logo on the black screen (with the status bar) came up briefly, the screen went black (as usual), and then the windows logo came up on the light blue background....and froze. The hard drive seemed active, but even after letting it sit and stew overnight, nothing happened. Same logo in the morning. It didn't get to the list of windows users in order to logon…

SATA Drives Optical and HD
by Guest rwe111nospam@cox.net- 0 replies

My motherboard has four (4) sata ports/connectors and one (1) ide conector. I can populate 3 of the 4 sata port with 2 HD's and 1 optical drive and the motherboard bios sees all three. I can also use the ide connector for another optical drive and it is recognized if I enable the jmicron driver in the bios. I have all of this installed on my computer. Running XP Pro already installed. When I log on to XP and go to "My Computer" the main HD show up and depending on how I have the sata ports configured the 2nd HD will show but the sata optical will not or the optical will show and the and the 2nd HD will not. If I enable the jmicron driver the ide optical…

Re: broadband I am writing this letter to ALL Wireless Router manufacturers. I have a Linksys Wireless Router Model:BEFW11S4. It is 7 years (yes, count them, all of seven little years) old. I have visited the Linksys website numerous times trying to set up the WEP/WPA security on that wireless router (as all responsible wireless router owners should!). I found that there are no links to any wireless router setting websites that are congruent with the screen shots from Linksys' own self help technical support site. I have had to call Linksys several times to resolve this issue only to be placed on hold for lengthy times (sometimes my call was droppe…
