Drive changes
by Guest Skye- 12 replies

Simple to those that know how but I'm stuck and wonder if some kind person can help. Since installing an external DVD-RW it has somehow assigned itself to F Drive after two weeks of being G drive and my external hard drive has now changed to G drive from F. This is no problem with anything I have stored other than the Norton Ghost back-ups as it can't access them now they are on a different drive letter. Anyone know how to solve the problem please? I can access the storage drive to change the letter but the letter on the DVD-RW drive can't be changed, well, at least I can't see any way of doing it. I've right clicked but there's no facility and I've found …

My question is that I am trying to prevent local users (limited account types) from printing ? What might be the easiest way to do this on a Windows XP Pro computer ? The printer is attached to directly to the computer. I want to be able to prevent all users except for the account for the administrator to be able to print. Thanks in advance

Can't load Canon F80
by Guest Dickerson888- 0 replies
I have had trouble installing the software driver for a Canon F 80 Multifunction Printer. Canon was nice enough to send me a new copy of the software and still no luck. I can find it in the Device List but with a yellow symbol. I have removed it and attempted to reinstall no luck. It attempts to load but stops saying it cannot locate the driver software. I did see some discussion that SP 2 could be causing a problem preventing it from loading. Respectfully, Bill Dickerson

? Partitioning
by Guest Laughingstar~*- 10 replies

Is it wise to create partitions? I've wondered from the sheer ease of backing-up quickly. Still haven't a clue what to really back-up. Thank you. -- “Toxicity in relationships is a human pollutant (Ann Scott, March 2008).”

Network Connection Properties issue trying to reserve and IP
by Guest MikeO- 1 reply

I am trying to reserve an IP for my computer, but when I went to the properties of my wireless network connection, the connection properties window is missing everything except for Client for Microsoft Networks. Even the connect using field has nothing in it. The wireless connection is working, but I can't get to the TCP/IP protocol to reserve the IP instead of using DHCP. Here is an image of the issue. An screen cap of my wireless network connection properties can be seen here: http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/hh67/gremmie44/untitled.jpg Has anyone ever seen this? Any ideas to fix it? Thanks for any info.

Re: Memory (RAM) Just a basic question. I have Windows XP Home edition and would like to know how I go about seeing the speed (MGz) of the memory modules installed. Can't seem to find that information. I found the amount of memory (Mg), but can't find the speed. Thank you. installing Virtual PC eliminates internet connection
by Guest childofthe1980s- 2 replies

Hello: If I install either Virtual PC 2004 or 2007 here on my XP SP2 laptop, my internet connection (whether LAN or wireless) simply goes away. Luckily, I am able to resolve this issue with the internet by using the XP system restore (even though I lose my install of VPC of course). But, does anyone know why I cannot have a successful install and use of VPC without destroying my internect connection? It's weird. Is there a way that I can have both? John

WINDOWS DEFENDER (OS - Windows XP Home SP2 Fully Up To Date)
by Guest Miguel- 4 replies

Has anyone come across this problem? I have 'options' set to carry out a quick scan daily. Windows Defender (WD) duly scans and tells me 'no unwanted or harmful software is detected'. Today, I chose to run a full scan manually. When the scan reached System Volume Information, WD hung and would continue no further. The 'ticker bar' (or whatever you call it) was still scrolling, but the file count was static. I left it in this state for quite a while then decided to stop the scan. This was not possible, except by using Task Manager to end the program. I didn't really believe what was happening, so I chose a custom scan of just System Volume Informatio…

First hello and thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm stuck. I have a home built computer that I built about 3 years ago. Inside are two WD 200 GB SATA drives. The are just single drives, not being used for RAID or anything fancy. Well the other day, my machine wouldn't boot. Says that it can't find the windows\system32 or whatever directory. Says to boot from my xp cd and type 'r' for the recovery console. Now this has happened once in the past and I did it and it workd. This time it didn't work. When in the recovery console of the xp cd, xp said that it could not find any drives installed in my machine. First thing I thought of was that s…

Hello, I'm rebuilding our home network and don't know which icons to delete (or uninstall?) on each computer. Desktop is wired to Linksys router, laptop is connected wirelessly. Both are XP Pro SP2 machines. The desktop Network Connections shows only a Local Area Connection icon (the icon is a simple T connector - no monitors), Status shows it's connected 100 Mbps. The laptop Network Connections shows three icons: 1394 Connection (Disabled); Local Area Connection (Disabled); Wireless Network Connection 2 (Connected) Broadcom 802.11b WLAN). I suspect the laptop WLAN icon should go, but not sure about deleting the LAC on the desktop. Also, is there any…
