Ok, I know, originally MS SHarepoint services are intended to run on WinXP Server 2003. But I could imagine that there is a workaround to let these services run on WinXP Pro) too. Is this possible (possibly with tricks) ? Sven

I have WinXP SP-2 & use Search Assistant. Whenever I do a search for All Files & Folders, the result window icon view changes to Tiles. Even though I change it to Details, it changes back if I do another search. I looked on Kelly Theriot's page but couldn't find the issue addressed. How can I change the view to default to details? -- Thank you in advance. Phil

Error 1606 Uninstalling Adobe Reader
by Guest paoloricardo@gmail.com- 2 replies
- 83 views
Using Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Adober Reader I get a message "Error 1606: Cannot access network location:." When I open the Error Log and look at the properties associated with the failure of MSIInstaller, in the data section at the bottom is the following: {AC76BA86-7AD7-1033-7B44-A80000000002} This is a folder in C:\Windows\Installer which contains 8 .ico files and an executable, SCReader.exe, this last with the Adobe Reader icon. Anyone know what's going on and why I can't uninstall Reader?

apparently the link I folloed to these boards originally sent me to the media center area, and Bob was kind enough to make sure I knew I was in the wrong place... thanks bob... so anyway... repost from media center... ok... i was working on an XP machine earlier that a user had filled the hard drive on... it has dot net 2.0 running on it for quick books 2008. Using spacemonger I found that the biggest chunk of space on her hard drive was in microsoft.net\framework\v1.1.4322 where it had created tons of folders that were named shadow### with ### being 3 digit numbers. This obviously appears to be part of dot net but can someone tell me what is running th…

How do you DISABLE CTRL+SCROLL to Zoom IE & Office Apps???????
by Guest infiniteMPG- 2 replies
Running XP and there is this pesky little feature that allows you to hold down the CTRL key and using the scroll wheel and zoom in or out in IE7, Word and Excel windows. Because I run dozens of apps and have different things open I often accidentally bump the CTRL key when scrolling and zoom in or out. My Logitech mouse has dedicated buttons to do this and to reset the zoom so I reall REALLY want to disable this feature for CTRL + SCROLL to zoom. Any idea on how to do this??????? Thanks in advance.

Acronis disk director 10 partition manager very old
by Guest Kris- 1 reply
I got Acronis (I'm licensed) DD 10 and found out too late that it has a 5 year old 2.4 kern on the recovery disk. After 11 emails to their tech support (one person) he is unable to coax it to see my mouse AND my IDE drive. The old kern is not appropriate for even my 1 yr old mobo, even in legacy mode. Extremely important to me also is that it offers illegal choices - click on an empty space outside of and non-contiguous to extended area, and with 3 other primary partitions and it offers BOTH primary and extended, both of which are illegal. it created an overlapping area on my HD which it then did not detect, and FIXMBR did not fix. I did fix it only by imag…

Searching way to print HTML web page to picture (BMP,GIF or PNG) file
by Guest Kevin Yu- 0 replies
Assume I have a (big) web page. How can I print this web page into a picture file BMP, GIF or PNG format? Note that a simple screenshot is not searched because the web page is NOT completely visible and needs a lot of scrolling. However the target picture should contain the full web page content. Does someone know such a tool? Alternatively a converter from pdf to BMP,GIF or PNG picture would be suitable as well. Kevin

Windows Explorer Not Starting
by Guest Rames- 1 reply

We have several users who are experiencing a hard to reproduce but persistent problem. When the computer starts users they see their desktop background but nothing else, no start menu, task bar or icons. Launching the task manager and running explorer.exe seems to be the work around and we have noticed no bad side affects. The problem affects a dozen or so users out of thousands but once users have the problem it reoccurs frequently but sporadically. They are all joined to a domain which has very few policies. We have never seen the problem on computers that do not have folder redirection for their "My Documents". Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot…

all printers are inaccessible when opening fax console
by Guest er. mess. all printers are inaccessible- 2 replies
- 82 views
I have lost use of my fax console. This happened a short while ago as well but I was able to locate the file name for the console and restore it. Unfortunately I have misplaced the name of that file so I am stuck without. When I open fax console it attempts to refresh but to no avail and the error message: all printers are inaccessible pops up on the bottom border. I am unable to send or receive any fax without this feature. I have tried cleaning the registry, no luck. I also have tried the "faxfix" tip that was on the internet and that too didn't work. Please reply with the name of the fax console file within Windows XP Home Edition. Thank you.

Unable to access Windows Update site. 1 2
by Guest dslman- 30 replies

I had a problem with .net framework which I finally reloaded and got to work. I tried to go out to the Windows Update site and I get the message " Thank you for your interest in obtaining updates from our site. This site is designed to work with Microsoft Windows.........." I am running Windows XP, SP2, with all current updates as of July, 2007. I can get to the net and other Microsoft sites with no problem. I have no other problems that I am aware of and all my programs seem to be working properly. What is the Update site looking for when you go out to retrieve updates? Can I have a corrupted file I am not aware of? -- Thanks, dslman

Works98 to Works9
by Guest Hrshoer- 2 replies

I have recently purchased Works 9 for our new computer. We also have Office 2002 loaded. With Vista as our operating system. I have found the old Works Data Bases that I made in Works 98. They were transfered from the old computer and were found under My Documents like they should be. Somehow my new system is confused. If I try to double click the file (from My Documents). I get a error message. "The selected file is not a valid Microsoft Office Document Imaging File". Under this files "properties" it is listed as a "WDB File (.wdb)" The only way that I can open this file is from the Start, Programs, Microsoft Works Database, Open existing database…
