if I set the taskbar to always be ON TOP of other programs it does just that-- I also have it set to automatically hide.---- HOWEVER it is also on top of the tool tips that pop up when i am looking at the system tray on the taskbar. Is there a way to have the taskbar on top of other programs but have the tooltips of the system tray on top of the taskbar so I can read them?????????? thx

When I boot my computer I get the lowest color quality (8 bit), instead of the highest (32 bits) that I usually got. I have no idea what triggered that change but now I have to adjust it manually every time I reboot my computer. What can I do to change that?

Moved files "in limbo"
by Guest cpmac- 1 reply

A phenomena has just started happening on my computer. I'm using XP home SP2. I moved some jpg files from disk D to disk E. They are partitions on separate HDs. The thumbnail stays in D. In E I get the name of the file but no thumbnail. I can't open the file in D or E. I get a message to the effect that the file is already open or being used. I can't closed down the computer normally. I get a warning that these files are being used and must close them before shutting down. The only way is to force a reboot with the button.

by Guest Puckorr- 1 reply

Hi There, I have a computer that someone else started the automatic updates on. I have no idea what updates they were. During shutdown the computer has been on 23 of 62 for the last two hours. The computer has not locked up at all, but I noticed the hard drive light is no longer flashing. Is there any way to get out of these updates that are left to be installed? This is a Windows XP professional.

by Guest Artie- 2 replies
I'm working on a PC that was infested with malware. I have a system restore going on, but appears to be hung. The bar across the screen hasn't moved in 45 minutes and the HD light on the PC stays on. Is there any way to cancel this restore? If I unplug the system will it revert to the "before restore started" state?

The game is played many times every day, and the lockups occur at roughly one week intervals. I have no problems with any other computer functions. I've swapped out the video drivers more than once. There are never any events recorded. Dr. Watson finds no faults. I've run Scandisk successfully. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Windows games. To no avail. This began happening regularly months ago. Must I reformat and reinstall the entire OS? Can anyone suggest a cause--or a solution?

Can't Restore to Earlier Time
by Guest Tassie- 8 replies

I have winxp with IE7, and want to restore the comp back to Aug 2007, but as it will only go 2 months back, I created a restore point to Aug 20 2007, but on the last page it gave 2 options on the bottom of the page "Home" or "Cancel" So checking on "Help" it said click "home" to get the welcome restore page or cancel to finish, but when I clicked on "Home" it closed the page and nothing happened. I tried a couple of times, creating new restore points and clicked on "cancel" but the same thing happened. Does any one know please what is going on here?

restore
by Guest Glenn- 3 replies

I tried to use system restore several times over the last few days, even trying it using a benchmark only one day old. It goes through the whole bit but takes longer than I remember it and then when it comes up to the screen of accepting the changes, it says that nothing was changed and try a different benchmark day. I have tried several and I always get the same result. There is something missing. My XP pro is a full version on a CD. Some CD's have provisions to correct installations or you can reinstall with no problem.. Does XP do that? Would a reinstall screw up everything? Some 4 months ago I installed a 160G HD and cloned the old 60G to it and am using the …

System restore setting for individual drives
by Guest Tom Del Rosso- 4 replies
I have backup drives that are near full because I keep as many backups as will fit, so I get errors that say System Restore doesn't have enough space on the drive. I disable it for those drives, but can somebody please explain what System Restore would do with a non-system drive? I mean it's not going to find any registry files there, so what's the logic of it? -- Reply in group, but if emailing add another zero, and remove the last word.

Hi There. Wondered if you could advise. I put a load of Pictures on home pc on over the weekend. On Sunday I noticed I had some weird Trojan virus and even my spy checker etc, couldn’t get rid off. System Restore monitoring all Drives. How does it work and Why?
by Guest Pete Carr- 4 replies
There is an option to have System Restore monitering all drives. But System Restore (as far as I can see) doesn't give you the option to restore a paticular drive. What does System Restore monitor on other drives (or partitions) other then C: I know it restores C because it has all of the important system setting on it if that is where my OS is and files to etc.. I have 6 drives (3 total) 2 partioned into 3 segments and one non partitioned. Anyway what info does System restore monitor on all of my other drives except my Boot OS C: drive and why monitor them if you cannot pick which drive you want to restore. I WOULD NOT want a System Retore to restore files…

Trying to install software and I get this message: "Windows Installer service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running in Safe mode or if Windows Installer is not correctly installed". When I click on OK, the Windows Installer message box appears then disappears. Program needs to close
by Guest Bobbi- 3 replies

Recently, I started having problems with a certain program in which some functions cause the following error message: "Adobe Acrobat Elements has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program but still have the problem. I have also experienced the same problem with Internet Explorer on both my Win98 machine (a lot) and my Win XP machine (a very few times). I'm wondering if this has something to do with the operating system environment. Does anyone have any suggestions? Bobbi

I am working on a project right now that needs to be able to scan in multiple pages using a scanner's multi feed feature. The scanner that I am using to test is Fujitsu fi-5120C. I am coding this project in C# and am trying to use WIA Automation 2.0 Library. I am open to alternative technologies if someone has any suggestions. My test case is that I have three sheets of paper in the document feeder and I want my code to scan in all three pages at once. All the pages get scanned correctly when I call the following code: private void CallScanWizard() { WIA.CommonDialog dlg = new WIA.CommonDialog(); Device dvc…
